The spike I briefly noted yesterday seems to be more consistent. These screenshots were taken a couple of hours ago (since then, the spike seems to have been plateaued, for now).
First of all, Coinmarketcap shows a very significant volume, almost three times bigger than the last month peak:
On Huboi Pro the price recovered the losses of the last two weeks, reaching the level from between June 13th - Jun 20th.
But we have to put this in perspective: the last 24 hours volume is almost insignificant, compared with what we had at the end of May, or at at the end of April:
That means the market is still very fragile, and even small volumes can move the price a lot. It may also mean that this might just the beginning of a stronger move, and we may see even more volume flowing in, in which case the price may likely go even higher.
Although I'm overall highly bullish on STEEM, I will keep a cautious eye on these developments.

It is true volume is quite low compared to May, but we have been in a very bear trend for the past months, so having such a volume pump is more significant as it is betting against the trend. Back in may if was just trend trading volume.
I think I might use the kr tag tonight to see if the Koreans know something.
Can it be the harbinger of good times returning....
I hope for steem to appreciate leaving SBD close to 1$ just like the ways it's meant to be.
That would be great, but I'm doubtful it will happen unless we get a real peg. It's already at $1.25 :(

This is looking good. The future for Steem is looking bright! Now we just hope that the volume and price keeps rising steadily.
I think this is the rally we all were waiting for.
I don't wanna be negative and all, but most likely bithumb bought that kind of volume to dump it as soon as they see a spike. And when that happens, steem is gonna crash hard. Back to $1.05 or even $0.90. It's clearly a speculative move.

Hopefully this is the beginning of something huge, with the ease to create accounts in hf20, we will basically be opening the doors to all of the internet and that should increase price and volume a bit! now I'm wondering if smts will come with the hf20 or later!

Steem is going better more than other. Hope steem will go up and 1 steem will be equal to 100 dollar. It will only be happen with our coopration.
I think this spike is a short lived spike and likely to meet with selling pressure, we are in a set up to go down to 1.00 and that will likely remain here till December

While I'm bullish on Steem as a blockchain and platform in general, I sometimes become doubtful of the value of the STEEM currency. When people ask me why they should buy STEEM, the only non-speculative answer I can think of is to get Steem power so you can upvote you own posts, which I am not sure is a sustainable practice. Or maybe it is. Of course, this gives influence, and influence is always worth something, but then again, I'm a bit afraid that Steemit is moving towards becoming a community of producers and not consumers. What is the value of influence if nobody reads what you write, or read it only to comment for upvotes?
But then again, sometimes I'm very optimistic, so who knows?
Do you think this is going to be a sustained increase in volume, or just a temporary spike?
Any ideas what caused the jump in volume?
