Common Mistakes in Steemit.

in #steemit7 years ago (edited)
  1. Trying to be perfect: Steemit contents are from people like you and me . Unlike the corporate media house, we should be making contents from our real life and in real life we are not perfect . So trying make a perfect content is a bad idea . Let it be real and imperfect .

  2. Wrong niche : A doctor is a terrible engineer. Ofter we try new things and there is nothing bad about it . But we should start and focus on our area of expertise . Then after sometime we can try new things. Otherwise we will make horrible contents or very few contents.

  3. Wrong narratives : To make the readers more engaged we should be using proper narratives . Most content producers get good attention if the content is about "why X?" vs "What is X". How things work is also a good area to focus on . So play the "why " and "how" game . Avoid "what" games . Too many people are trying to explain "what is X" and hence its not unique to go through this way. Remember people in social media do not just come for information . Its all about engagement in a social environment.

  4. Wrong tags : This is a very common mistakes among us . Photography about life events should not be tagged with "cryptocurrency" . And SOMETIMES WE PUT CAPITAL LETTERS HERE AND THERE to just make the content visually disturbing. We should use hashtags only when we know where it is appropriate or not use it at all. Spelling mistake is also something to be careful about.

  5. Commenting without reading : This is one of the silly things you can ever do in steemit. Often i find comments " Nice post/ liked it/ very good" . These are non-engaging comments and dont add a lot of value . Engaging into comment is a very effective way to build relationship in steemit.

  6. Irregular contents production: its not necessary to make content everyday but we must be regularly publishing contents. Otherwise we loose our audience interest on our stories.

  7. Using bots for earnings from the start: Bid-bots are good for spreading words across more audiences. But there are many who uses Bid-bot to get a return on their SBD. At times it might work but most of the time you will loose your reputation(if any) and not make a good amount unless the content is great. Stay away from bid-bot in early days of steemit journey.

  8. Wrong sized contents: Size does matter . And there is no " One for all" size at all. Photography posts require a lot less words to make sense than a "how to" post. When we are writing a review the readers are expecting something in depth and the posts usually can be long .However, the size has to be carefully chosen according to the taste of readers, category and frequency of content publishing.

  9. Not replying to comments : This is by far the most important way to loose any sort of engagement . Replying comments fast and being active is key creating an audience panel . Always check your comments, reply to it and make a conversation going.

  10. Resteeming almost everything : At times we tend to resteem quality articles for our followers, its good. Sometimes we do resteem too much and thats a terrible mistake . If you resteem a lot, you will notice your follower number go down because your followers want content from you at the first place. So, resteem less and wise .

*** Please resteem and upvote if you like it .***

I am happy to be able to get such value from your article. Resteemed brother.

Massive information for newbies like me. Thanks a lot.

Are you a newbie? Then we are yet to born, you gonna be guru of us. Get some time for steemit!

These are nice advice. Specially, for the new joiners. I often see people are using wrong tags. Thanks for reminding the key points to become a successful blogger.

Often we do this kind of mistakes its because lack of proper education & professionalism . Thanks for your mentioning some really very important things.Definitely it will help to develop quality content . For showing respect to your article , upvote & resteem done.

This post is very important for all steemians. specially for new here.your post has benefited me most because I am new here. I am fahmida afroz Salma.professionally I am nurse.so I need your help always.

It is very useful tropic for me. Because I am a newcomer in the steemit world. I think, its a ocean and I am swimming. :) Great post. it is resteemited for my followers. Upvoted also.

yes steemit is a very big . And we need to stay hungry to learn them all.

Great guide and really a great post..i appreciate you...Resteem it

Perfect post for newbies like me. Thanks i have learned somethings new here.
Yet i have some inquiry....

  1. I did not understand clearly of point 3 making.
  2. Without using bot, it is not worthy to give a hard work for the content. I am not fan of bot system. If you ever see my comment before, you can find i have argument with several bot promoter users. We do not have audience enough. So, posting without bot may be useless. because it will not last on the front page to see the people. And low Reputation, such as me, i know from my own exoerience, we do not even visit the post. No matter how good it was. We know, they have nothing to give us(upvote in the comment).
So, I am asking, how we can promote our post to visualize our content to maximum possible user?
I know what you write, these are standards need to follow. But, here no ones care about others. Whales of the community will never gonna vote my posts. So, i am going earn? I saw, some people are tried to give quality contents, but they got slammed hard by the reality here. No one cares about your content. Most of them do not even read, who are commenting on it. It does not matter of the quality of content or their hard work. People with high SP power, will get huge response on the comment section, no matter the quality of it. Sad but true. Here, some people are trying to say, they working for the minnows. Nope, that's the biggest lie. They are doing business by it. They have no cost in upvote. They are selling their upvote power to the people.
Sorry, I was going to ask you, just 2 things. But, these all just came by without my planning.
  1. Point 3 : If i am writing about exercise it will be engaging if i write "why" we need exercise . Then its also important let people know "how" is exercise done. The least important article would be "what" is exercise . Hope its clear now.
  2. Bot use isnt bad and i am only against it when people only use it at the start of their steem journey . They wouldnt know how to use it wise. There are certain aspects of bot which i dont think is perfect, but it is what it is. Having said that, its also true that you cant really uplift without a good content . My sole point is : focus on content first , then u will know what to do with it.

Thanks a lot i understand the points now. I will try my best to follow your advice. Hope, I also will find the right way.

If there is money, there will be business. Steemit generates money, so it behave in give & take manner! despite everything, good content writers do have much opportunity to attract good number of quality audience. so, stay tunned. best of luck.

This is also a social site. I still hope there is opportunity here. That's why, i am still here.

yeah, deploy your time here instead of other social media like fb, build community as well as income source. happy steemit.

Thank You for this post. I tried to follow almost everything in this article you discussed. I recently used bot in my two post. I don't know whether it was wrong or right. But I will try to follow all of your advice here. Thank You again.

you r welcome. i see your action is improving .

Obviously i resteemed it for my followers as well as for me for future reading @doctalk

As i found real helping tips. specially the "how to' "why to" game. As it produces more vlaue by posting like this rather then just giving "what is" things.

& other important aspect not to reply comments or commenting without reading both distracts us from being in interactive process to widen the network.

we should honestly engage through meaningful interactions as its all about doing good via communal support!

Thanks for ur info bro...there's some mistakes which I did already or which I'll do in next...bt after reading ur post I learnt about those mistakes...

Commenting without reading : This is one of the silly things you can ever do in steemit. Often i find comments " Nice post/ liked it/ very good" . These are non-engaging comments and dont add a lot of value . Engaging into comment is a very effective way to build relationship in steemit.

You are very true about this part and about the resteem almost everything, because I have myself seen that many times.
This is a very disrespectful thing to do.
And your steemit profile is for you not for posts from other people. The option resteem was made with an idea that we can share valuable things, not almost everything.
Thanks @doctalk for making this point out. You really are doing a great job. I appreciate you time and efforts.
This is one reason I follow you, thanks for giving support to all fellow steemians.

Nice to see you..@doctalk.
Your this post so helpfull for us...many important matter you share...
Thank you so much for sharing..this post..

thanks

you have summed up everything that new comers are facing, i think we should have steem classes to introduce friends about steemit and make them aware about the above mentioned things, until they are clear... I'm facing the same problem... can you help me what kind of tags are to be used in steem posts? I'll be thankful if you will help me 😊

Re tags: I think we can use common sense to find the appropriate tags . For example, if i write an article on a life event its appropriate to put "life" tag, not "bitcoin" . The writer should know what he/she tries to focus through their content and the most appropriate tag should be used . There is different bot services in steemit to catch the misuse of tag as well.

Masha Allah..it's an informative post for us whose are making mistakes bt don't know how to survive from that mistakes...thank u so much vaia...ur post not only informative, but also inspirational for us😊

Let it be real and imperfect
At least it is real, we should only post real content here no matter if it is imperfect.
But we should start and focus on our area of expertise
I agree on this, otherwise we can make a really bad content.
We should use hashtags only when we know where it is appropriate or not use it at all.
Well using of proper hastags is really important, they act like filters so we should always use most appropriate ones.
However, the size has to be carefully chosen according to the taste of readers, category and frequency of content publishing.
We should use the correct font as per the requirement, and always reply to comments

thanks for your input , appreciate it

You are extremely welcome

Thanks for your valuable post. I hope it will help me lots. The stmeeit is a great platform to show our own globe.

Very simple but much important points have been identified by you. Beyond these I want to add some other suggestions-

  1. Don't beg
  2. Don't want rewards overnight, its a self branding process, your brand will give you reward
    Thanks. Have stream in steem.

Excelente guide to posting @steemit my friend. I love the way you described its simplicity in a very elegant way. 👍

Appreciate your words, my friend. @melip

I use bid bots to earn money like it or not I don’t think they are going anywhere so might as well take advantage of it

there is nothing wrong in using it as long as u know what u r doing.

Would like to add another point, money should not be the first priority in steemit

Money should not be the first priority at anything .

Your talk always seems more positive to me. Every point was very important for the new or old Steamians. Thank You, brother, @doctalk.
Now, Resteem Your post.......!!

very good post helps a lot to understand steemit

Well. i would say that most of the steemit users doesnt know the actual procedure to build up this community in a better way. they thought that just write your blog and publish them. but who cares for the consistency. may be not.

The most important thing i guess, tag selection is the major problem. maximum users do not understnd that what is actually tags mean. they just randomly select tag and published their post. that is the problem. And you describe all the thing that every steemit blogger should follow. Thank you very much @doctalk

appreciate your words

This is a good articles.I love it and promise to fo your guideline
