Hello Steemians, while browsing the wide Web today i found out about a project called Akasha that is being developed silently in the shadows.
No i am not talking about Akasha the queen of the dammed nor the Indian Akasha which is a term for "æther" in traditional Indian cosmology. Or maybe i am!
Funny enough Akasha in Indian means ether and it is a social media platform that is being developed and Powered by the Ethereum world computer.
So what is AKASHA?
well from: https://akasha.world/ which is their official website:
Advanced Knowledge Architecture for Social Human Advocacy
As a word, AKASHA ( [aːkaːʃə], आकाश) has roots in Sanskrit and means “ether” in both its elemental and metaphysical senses.
The ancient Sanskrit-speaking civilization envisioned akasha as a metaphysical information network connecting humanity with itself and infinite knowledge. In this paradigm, thoughts, ideas, feelings, and experiences are stored forever and shared through the ether, which acts as an universal field connecting multiple planes of existence.
Thousands of years later we have created a modern information network openly connecting humans with each other and perpetual knowledge.
As a decentralized application AKASHA deploys a next-generation information architecture born from the fusion of Ethereum and the Inter-Planetary File System. Thanks to these technologies we were able to create a planetary-scale information network immune to censorship by design, where your thoughts and ideas will echo throughout humanity’s existence.
difference between steemit & Akasha:
In Akasha you can Publish, share and vote for entries, similar to steemit platforms, with the difference that your votes are bundled with ETH micro transactions so if your content is good you’ll make ETH from it.
Who is behind it?
AKASHA is the brainchild of Mihai Alisie, Bitcoin Magazine creator and Ethereum co-founder.
When is the Lunch?
The alpha version is already available for Linux, MacOS, and Windows and currently runs on a private Ethereum testnet. The main Ethereum network launch (AKASHA 1.0) is expected to happen around Q3/Q4 2017.

Let's not abandon Steemit, ok! I'm staying. Besides, I'm not very fond of the Ethereum hype.
Well i am here and actually buying steem with the profits i make in trading alts. so i guess i am not going anywhere soon.
Also, its good to know your competitor so i hope the developers of steemit are paying attention to this! since the developers of Akasha are real smart people as well.
True, but what I really dislike about Ethereum is its monopolistic design. When I stop and think about it, I realize that they're trying to make the whole internet run on their platform! That's not good. I prefer platforms that focus on one thing, whether it's being a cryptocurrency, a banking token, or whatever. Ethereum reminds me of Walmart, they gobbled every possible type of goods and put people out of business.
This is 100% percent true and scary at the same time if they can pull it off.
Vitalik Buterin is one of the supporters and advisors from the beginning.
that is one of the reasons it can get big and compete with steemit in no time.
Interesting..nice pics too! Thanks
Glad you like it.
Looks interesting but i don't understand, how does the payment side differ from steemit apart from being based on ethereum?
both the payment and platform are built on Ethereum. As for the platform itself i still did not try the alpha version, will let you know the difference once i try it.
Cool I'm downloading it as I type. =)
update: its not really impressive
Thanks for the update, i will try it tomorrow as well. any difference between it and steemit?
Akasha is garbage they have no vision they have no hope
ahhaah good, I hope it says that way.
Great article thanks for sharing
wonderful pictures
but i like the project steemit , the potential is so huge
