Back in July a single vote from Ned could mean $1000. I got some giant votes from Dan back then as well.
Due to the experiment and the low price, no single upvote is worth anything like that today, but at least the power is much better spread out.

when was the experiment?
It started just a couple of weeks ago. Some whales are countering the votes of other whales and large groups, to distribute the power in a somewhat more linear fashion. The problem is that if you have 10 times more steem power than someone, you actually have 100 times larger vote. Similarly, if you have 100 times more power, you have 10,000 larger vote. So whales had extremely disproportionate power which is finally being reduced, but it needs to be actually built into the protocol instead of being applied ad-hoc by some whales.
