RE: A Rumination: Steemit, Contradiction, And Economics / Or The Inevitability Of The Whale Hunt

in #steemit7 years ago

No, now come on. First off, I'm not a socialist and this is not a socialist post. I specifically said, and MEANT, that I had no judgment of any kind, good or bad, for whales, minnows or anyone else who takes part in the rat race. My point was only that even though a lot of people on here espouse sort of this new age, radical position that somehow steemit is above plain old "sell yourself for a penny" capitalism, they're fundamentally wrong.

I did use a bunch of pictures from the turn of the 20th century which were used to support socialist and communist positions, and the terms proletariat and bourgeois - not because I'm a socialist, but for the same reason those images and terms were successfully used to foment revolution in the first place: They speak to timeless truths about humanity.

Unlike some, I have no illusions about humanity, or our ability to live in some Star Trek perfection. That's why I called it a rumination - because it would be funnier and more effective when the whole thing revealed itself to be, in effect, a used car ad.

I don't. Steemit is extremely capitalist, and that's what I love about it. It's not star trek perfection and I make no bones about it.

Exactly! Nor do I! Hence this post - which is just me pointing out the ridiculousness of the situation we find ourselves in - the way it is still cutthroat and then, just when you think I'm going to call for the death of the whales - instead I turn it into an advertisement.

And with good products nonetheless.

I stand by the post, I won't do it again, because I would never risk the well being of a bunch of other people for my own whimsy. But I stand by it - and i stand by my point in that earlier comment.

Meanwhile, in the cutthroat spirit of capitalism, which you and I both espouse, if/when you feel enough time has passed - take a look at some of my stuff - I think, actually - you might like it.

If you look at anything - you probably should check out this

The IRS notices on crypto currency currently treats freshly mined currency as real income, taxed in the year it is received, with a basis at whatever the value was when you received it. This creates a wide variety of potential tax implications, which mean nothing to me, but could be important for you to consider.

I take issue with the word "cutthroat". I'm cutting no one's throat. Capitalism isn't about cutting throats or violence.

I know it's just an expression and you didn't mean it literally, but you are putting words in my mouth.

I meant it in the traditional, economic, wall street sense of the word - I didn't mean to imply any kind of physical violence and certainly didn't mean to attribute that meaning to you at all. It was just a turn of phrase
