I was born in Taiwan but my family moved to Australia when I was young. It was a struggle to keep up with my mandarin but at least the people on the mainland seem to like the lack of accent when Taiwanese people speak mandarin :) Where abouts in China did you spend most of your time? I guess they still see Europeans in China speaking mandarin as a bit of novelty over there :D

I often get the thumbs up when I speak Mandarin. If you don't use a language on a regular basis it fades quickly. I'm so jealous you live in Australia- live must be pretty awesome there ?

It's funny you say that because we think that the Swedish lifestyle must be fantastic because Scandinavia seems to be a paradise (apart from the cold weather) :D

I bet the mandarin must come in very handy when you are trying to bridge the cultural gap, because I found that speaking fluent English there doesn't help as much as mandarin :)

Haha the cold weather is the problem though - more than half the year is freeIng cold . Beside that it's very good mostly. But I must say I love sunny weather and tropical places. What part in Australia are you from ?

I am originally from Brisbane where it is beautiful in winter and pretty hot & humid in summer so you would definitely love it :) I have also lived in Sydney where the weather is similar and Melbourne where the weather is unpredictable at best (except in winter when it is cold). I assume you didn't spend time in the colder parts of China then?

I have actually been to Brisbane, it was an awesome place . My brother studied in the uni there - I think it's called Queensland uni - I forgot.

I have only been living in the middle part of China. But the thing is that the winters are the most nasty here because it's a humid cold and the houses are not isolated here and do not have central heating. You can loose your balls to frostbite if you are not careful

It would have either been the University of Queensland or Queensland University of Technology (I am guessing it is the latter because I remember there being lots of Swedish students when I attended).

I have to say that I don't know much about the middle part of China (even though it is called the Middle Kindgom :D), but humidity and coldness doesn't mix well :p I'll have to check to see if you have written any interesting posts about your experiences living in China :)
