Why I am writing this post:
An alliance member of mine @brandyb is starting up a project called #adoptaminnow Check out her post here if you are interested in adopting or being adopted. I have been considering joining the cause but was unsure what I could offer. I have been a member of Steemit for over a year and only have about 1000SP. But looking back, there are quite a few lessons that I have learned that I wish I had known a lot sooner in my Steemit career. This post is dedicated to one of those lessons.Upvote Comments on your Blogs
One thing that I have learned is that it is easier to keep follwers who are already interested in your content than it is to find new followers. This being said, you need to do everything possible to keep people who are already reading your blog coming back.If someone comments on your blog (a real comment not follow me and I will follow you) that means they actually took the time to read your blog and were interested in your content.
A few things that this means.
1) They may like your future blogs. Lets be honest, a lot of our content is written in a similar style and about similar topics. If they enjoyed one, then they may enjoy more!
2) You may like their content. If they liked your post, then they may have similar interests as your. This is great news because you may have found some new content that you will enjoy.
So why dont you do everything that you can to keep this person coming back?
Show them some love!
Always, always reply to comments on your blogs. Let them know that you do care that they read it and took the time to comment. During the great purge of my "Following" list, one of the main reason I stopped following some people was the fact that they never took the time to reply to my comments on their blogs. These are the same people that wouldn't ever take the time to wonder over to my page either....And Finally make sure that you UPVOTE good comments. Especially from return users.
Lets be honest, the great thing about Steem is that you can pay users for doing things that you like. When you are still a minoow, a 2 cent upvote to someones blog may go noticed. That same 2 cents on a comment will definitely be noticed as it may be the only upvote it receives.
Now that I have my slider, I do my best to try and upvote around 10 cents for a find that my rate of return users has definitely increased.
So make sure you reward the readers and not just the posters and you will see results in your Followers list!

I think that you have already earned your followers. You may have too many to upvote them all!
You do a great job of jumping over to their posts and showing love.
Since you are larger than a minnow, that strategy makes more sense for you anyway!
I got carried away at the start now I am trimming down my following list a little each Day
Still a way to go to get it manageable
To be honest, I have a 3 tier system.
First I check out people who comment on my posts. Second I check out the Alliance Discord post promotion. Then Third I check out my Feed.
That’s similar to me but I have a fourth tier Steemusa before my feed

One thing that you do well is continue to visit my posts! ha ha
Every time I read a comment I always head over and check out the blog of the commenter.
One thing I forgot to mention is to take a look to ensure that they also upvoted your posts. There are comment trolls who comment and dont vote. Hoping you will upvote their comment or even head over and vote on their posts. Some of them even use bots to comment for them. But those are easier to spot.
This is such a great advice, I'm only starting in steemit but I want to grow and show others that I appreciate their support. Great post!

Great piece of advise my friend. I have known u lately but must state that u post quality content. I seldom try my best to appreciate valuable comments of fellow steemitians by upvoting and responding to them. I think thats the least expected from eaxh one of us. I agree. And that is something that I didn't realize at the beginning. You just think about making your own posts and not about gaining friends who will be interested in reading them.
I really hope a few others read this and learn from my mistakes.

I try to use my larger votes on members with lesser power than me who have good content.
I have had some larger fish help me out along the way and my vote goes less noticed on larger fishes posts.
Upvoting good comments is such good advice! I do this all the time, and can tell that it really encourages people to engage with me more!
You really can build "relationships" through comments. This helps people some back to your posts.
