Using Bots. Are They Really Worth It?

in #steemit7 years ago (edited)

As many newer steemians I am contently looking around for new connections. New people to interact with and follow and hope that while I am commenting on their posts they are taking notice and deciding to check out my blog. For to me this is a great way to get noticed. You have to put yourself out there right?

Well while out there I have noticed much talk recently about the use of bots. There are those that swear by it and those that do not see that their use is beneficial. I will tell you how I feel at the end of this experiment. I decided that I would would make my determination after I tried it for myself. I always say you can not knock it until you try it. So I went looking for bots that are higher ranked and one thing I found quickly was this site. https://steembottracker.com/ While I was at this site I entered 3 bids on 3 different bots so I can see how each one worked and to get a real assessment on their value.

One bot sent me back a small amount. I believe this to be so they can confirm the use and to get a memo on my wallet.
All 3 upvoted my post as you can see in the next photo.

This was a video post so there was 1 person that downvoted it, I upvoted it and only 1 of my followers upvoted it.
This post totaled out at $1.83

So as many know SBD value changes daily. For the accurate account we will need to check the value of the day we paid the bot and than the value the day we got our reward from the chain. This first picture is the day I paid the bot. The second one is the day I got the reward.

If you do not already know you can find the current prices and a history at https://coinmarketcap.com/ which is where I got the information to make this comparison.
So now lets take a closer look at the numbers and see how they really work out.

So as you can see I LOST ALMOST HALF my SBD using 3 bots to "get my post out there". I even shared it on Facebook and one other thing I did not highlight on my photo was the amount of views it actually got even with the bots. The total views this post got was 9. Which begs to question the reason many swear by using bots was to get more views. The reason I show you the value of SBD on the 2 different dates was because I wanted to elimanate the statement of the SBD was worth more the day I got my reward than it was the day I paid the bots.

So at the end of this experiment I have decided that using bots is not only a waste of time that can be better spend building real connections with other people. I will also explain why this is better in a minute. But you are loosing your rewards and just handing them over to a program that does nothing in return. So as much as I was curious it was a well lessened learned that BOTS ARE NOT WORTH THE SBD OR YOUR TIME

So how is it the real followers and building connections with others pay off more than the use of bots? Well to start with you are not "paying" to build connections. each person starts out small and it is up to them to build or destroy their reputation here. Just like any other platform. No one starts out big, it needs to be worked on and takes time. Those that are using bots that make hundreds of dollars on posts have a huge following and have been here for a while. So why would one assume that just because you are using a bot you will have the same results? I was not expecting to make those results which is why I put very little into it. I put into what I could easily compare at the end of my experiment.

When you start out here and you are unnoticed it is best to read other blogs and get to know what works and what does not work. Maybe comment on some posts and get a conversation going and start a connection. There are many topics of discussion on the platform I chose one that was dear to my heart and got involved with it. And while doing that I made a few other connections and started talking about other things. In this was my following is growing and more posts I publish more people actually view them. This way I have found to be the better way to grow and not only is it more fun it is a solid growth. You will see the same people commenting on your posts and you get to know them more. And as your reputation goes up so does your connections. And even though your vote is worth a few cents now it will one day be one of those whale votes you hear about and wish would take notice of your blog. This growth is slow but steady, which makes it sustainable.
Everyone wants their post to be seen and we all hope that it will get to the Trending page and take off, maybe it will one day but that can not be the reason for posting. If you have this as your main goal it will reflect that in your post and you will get frustrated easily that no one is paying attention to your post. (which is why I assume so many turn to bots) But that is why I did this experiment to see if using bots helps my chances in getting to that trending page. And as you can see it only got the views from the bots themselves. So it really does not get you any more views than not using them in the first place.

I want to thank you for following my experiment. I like trying new things and this one was fun. If you like my post and wish to read more please consider following and resteeming this so others can read it as well. And please remember to also upvote as it tells me that you did like this post.

Shalom sister, i liked your post and i remember reading one of your first posts about CPS (I believe). I completely agree with your thesis that organic traffic is better.

I also have a completely unrelated question for you though... How do you get the photos in your post? what format is it b/c im having problems with it myself. And how do you put the "upvote ,follow, resteem" thing to the bottom of your posts? TIA

Thank you for your comment. I am unsure of what you mean by getting my photos in the post so I will answer you with what I think you mean. It could be answer

  1. I use paint or photopad image editor depending on the photo and what I need done with it.

OR Are you talking about importing it on the post?

  1. When you are creating your post click on the (selecting item) that is in green. Than a separate window will pop up and you can choose the image you wish. I have had trouble the other way.
And finally the moving words if you right click your mouse click save image as and save the image. I store these in a thumbs folder and it will be a small image that is solid white. You insert these the same way I just told you above. The only thing is when you insert an image make you you are starting on a new line. Do not try to put it on a line that you already have text on.
I hope this helps you if it did not please let me know and I will make a post with pictures.

Yeah that helps... I was talking about importing it on the post but that was a good explanation. Thanks a lot. I'm going to write another post soon, we'll see how it goes.

I am glad that helps.
