My horizontal rulers (Everyone is welcome to use them!)

in #steemit7 years ago (edited)

I love dem horizontal rulers!

I have a small collection of flowery horizontal rulers. They were originally grey, as you can see. I got them from PngTree.com because I thought that the original horizontal ruler (<hr> /---) was a bit dull.

However, grey is not the best definition of liveliness, so I sprayed some color onto them! I first painted them red, then put some yellow and cyan and maybe some other color. This resulted in an image just like the one to the left but filled with colors.

I saved it as a .tiff file on Krita (each horizontal ruler being its own layer). Then used ImageMagick to separate them with the CLI command convert result.tiff -trim layer.png. And as the name of the program implies, it magically converted each layer into a separate PNG with a consecutive name.

Here, I give you the resulting horizontal rulers. You're free to use them in your own posts if you want, or to make your own. If you'd rather make your own, here's this post that explains how to make them from the comfort of your browser. So let's go:

Making the list

If you're curious, I didn't make that list by hand! I just pressed F12 and put some code in the console.

I know that most will prefer to use their own horizontal rulers. I for one like to make my own separators and my own generic but original media. But if I feel like I can't do it at the moment, I just look for something free that someone else provided. This is one of those things that I'd welcome if I hadn't already done mine.

the ideal post to use that old-post-rewarding scheme on :)

Haha, I always come back here to grab a divider. I've bookmarked it and regularly share it.

Awesome blog. I will get a lot of work.

Thanks for the praise :)

These are awesome. What a cool thing to share.

Thank you! :D I took my time making them and was a bit reluctant at the beginning, but as I recommended some people to use them, I noticed they didn't know how sometimes, so I felt encouraged to share them properly. That way people will have more variety than just one or two of my rulers and they'll know how to put them in their posts.

I'm glad to have your support. <3

Great job, nice to see your effort for the community... I have similar artwork to your rullers styles so i like them very much! Keep up the good work! (If you don't mind i would like to use them on my next post, taging you along so we all get some benefits) ;)))

Yay! It's alright to use them, of course! And I don't need attribution. But if you're willing, then I'm also willing to get some promotion. :3 Thank you for your compliments. I'll try and check out your content!

You are welcome and of course you will get credits for it! It was your effort providing them! In fact, you just did :) You can check them out in my last post! Cheers!

I'll use some and give you credit!!! I love that you put color in them...I want to color some! lol you should make a dtube tutorial or something. Except maybe not, some people said dtube was bad and dlive is better

Cool! I forgot about the console, that's nifty trick I'll be sure to use should I need such a thing. Lovely separators :)

Yeah, I was googling like crazy about how to install imagemagick and it turns out that it comes with most Linux distros by default. Lol

these are lovely @cryptosharon - thanks a bunch for making them available for us to use :)

Aww I'm glad you find them lovely. You're welcome! :3

You got a 17.54% upvote from @mercurybot courtesy of @cryptosharon!

I really like the first and 3rd ones that are in color. The first one speaks to me as a flowing movement. And the 3rd one makes me think of a dragon :D

Exactlyy! I use them all for different occasions. The first one is windy and the third one is reptile-y. Some have flowers, another one has a heart, so I use it endearingly. Every time I need a new one, I open up the folder (now probably this post) and choose the one that fits best for the situation.

Oh! How amazing! What a wonderful thing to share!!! Thank you!

You're welcome :) I'm glad you guys liked them <3

Thanks for sharing:)

You're welcome <3 Thanks for the thanks

Thank you for sharing with us @cryptosharon,

Yaayyy :D I hope to see them around sometime. Thank you for the appreciation. <3 And you're welcome! I hope to have some more nifty stuff to share in the future.

Done! I used it in my bilingual post to separate the languages. I appreciate it more because you inserted the image url. Bookmarked this post. Have a nice day @cryptosharon!

I am very grateful. I would like to be a whale to vote this post with 100% and that you will win a succulent sum. This takes away the tediousness of having to do it myself. I'm from lubuntu 16.04 lts. Thank you very much from this plankton! Hugs mom !.

:) That would be lovely, lol, to have such a huge vote of support <3. I did get a free $5 vote.

I hope I saved some time from busy people and improved the overall aesthetics of Steem blogs, even if just a little.

I'm on Ubuntu 16.04! And you're welcomeee

<3 hugs hugs

Really good post

This post is gold. I want to learn how they do it and now I've seen this. Thank you @cryptosharon for sharing this wonderful creations. Hope to see more of this in the future.

I hope too. :) Thank you for the compliments. Sadly I already made them so I can't make a properly documented tutorial with screenshots and all. So I think I'll pass until I do something big again.

It is very use for us newbies to make our blogs became beautiful.

Yup-yup! I hope many people start to use them :D You can share this with your newbie friends who may want to use it in their posts.

I always loved your separators Sharon! ♥ They're so colorful!

<333 Thank youuu. I was actually thinking of you when I shared them. Let's make Steemit a beautiful place!

Waaah that's sweet of you Sharon. It will truly be beautiful. Aja!

These are great!! I am quite excited about using them! Thank you!

:) <3 Thank you for the compliments. I'm glad that you like them.

These are beautiful and I will definetly be using them. Thank you so much for sharing as I was looking for something like this.

Woop, woop! :D Hey, Justine. Thank you for passing by. I'm happy that you found them to your liking. I hope you find them useful. <3

Just dropping by to let you know that your post caught my eye this week and you're featured in my Friday Favorites post! Thank you for posting quality content :)

@byn

Beautiful adaptations! I really like the 3rd one. Just double checking it is okay to use?

Yup-yup! Just copy and paste!

love these! Thanks for the useful rulers, nice work :)

Thank you :) And you're welcome! I'm planning more useful stuff but I need a lot of timeeee. A couple weeks at best for everything to be ready.

One of the best thing I could ever received.. You are superb!

<3 You're welcome.

Aw, so THESE are the ones you use. I almost asked you about it one day. Thanks for sharing!!! I just recently google'd a png arrow and started using that...I love arrows and feathers and stuff. These are perfect!

Yup-yup! I spent a little while without proper dividers and one day I simply said "no more". Then I made these. :3 I really like them and am glad to have discovered ImageMagick. And you're welcome <3 I'll share anything I get to be of help.

These are very nice. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you :) And you're welcome. I'm glad that you liked them.

Very nice! Thank you, I will probably use some of them!

:)) Thank you for the compliment. I hope they spruce some colour and beauty.

When you make these what height and width do you pu in photoshop? Or is there a better program to use?

These are 945 x 68 px, but they have varied heights. The width can also vary, but it should be wider than the actual Steemit width since there are other possible viewers for these posts (such as busy.org).

I used Krita, not Photoshop. Just use the one you know how to use. They are so similar that your knowledge of one or the other might be the difference in quality that you're looking for. However, if you know how to use both like me, I'd pick Photoshop. I just can't run Photoshop here on Ubuntu and Krita is super good too.

Thanks I was looking for one and thanks for the permission to use them :)

Will use them in my next post !

You're welcome <3 I saw your post and they look very colourful with them. :) I'm glad you're finding them useful.

Thanks to you !

You do have a great taste in choosing them !

Will use more in my coming posts :)

Wow what effort the rulers look amazing. I have been trying to look for a snake as a ruler for some time now. Would look great on my posts 😁

Hmmm, check these results. There aren't many snakes but there could be something you like there. If you want me to add some color on any of them, just tell me :3

Aww you are so awesome I will check.

Did you find anything you liked?

Have not gone thru all of it. There are alot of options.

Oh, ok. Don't be so picky! Lol. But it's your right to be picky. :P I just prefer to pick something nice and that's it.

Oh, your name is "watersnake", "snake"! I don't know how I didn't notice that this was your purpose when you were talking about snakes!

Lol I'm always a bit picky when it comes to selections. I think something is wrong with me lol.

Question: How did you post the links for us to copy without it creating the actual link/ruler?

Like... how did you get this,
codesource.png

Instead of it appearing like this:
"Code to use: "

Hmmm, backticks! ``

Thank you so much :) You inspired me to create some stuff, but I don't know much about markdowns and such. I appreciate it!

Ask me about it whenever you have a doubt :P We're both on Discord, I think.

I'm very flattered that I inspired you :)) <3

You are awesome! Thank you :)

This is great Sharon and thank you for sharing! Love these a lot, not sure how you sprayed them, but they came out super cool! xx Eagle

:) I took a simple brush on Krita, selected the colours and moved my graphic tablet's pen over the dividers! :D I'm glad that you liked them.

Excellent! I seriously have to get a tablet. I need to start doing art. I get inspired by so many on Steemit. Thank you again.

I loveeee these! thank you! will definitely use them <3

Holaaa <3 me alegra que te gusten :) Espero que tus posts queden súper bonitos y coloridos con estos separadores. Me da curiosidad, así que luego reviso tu perfil a ver cómo quedaron. Además de que todos les dan un uso distinto :O

These are so nice looking. And thank you for including information on how to make our own.

Thank you :) You're welcome, it was a pleasure to make the dividers and the post. I hope someone finds the information useful and makes some cool stuff. :)

Thank you for sharing these! They are so cool looking and will definitely add color! I didn't even know these were a thing - I mean, I guess I've seen them, but am still figuring out how people put all the different graphics in their posts, etc...
Thanks for helping my education along :-)

Oooh. Yeah, blogging is hard at the beginning! There's so much information to get that it slowly drips through till you start noticing every bit one by one. It's cool to see some guides around with people clarifying stuff.

I'm glad you liked them :)

Steemit ecosystem needs more artists like you.
I will surely use some of your creation in my next post, to separate between my writing segment where I currently use the ancient style which is a Line

I also used the ancient style before, but I fortunately found these rulers that I like very early in my journey. I think I'll be making more to spruce some variety into my aesthetics.

I just used it in my newest article and it looks really nice. Thank you !

:D Yay! Thank you for the feedback. I'm glad you like it.

a ruler with another theme maybe? like steemit night mode. playing with more green color?
just a suggestion :)

Oh, I'll think about that! I use night mode exclusively, and I'm glad that my separators work in both modes. I think of them of autumn leaves with residues of ice. But I'm sure I can do better. I'll see what I can do :) Thank you for the suggestions.

These are awesome! Thanks so much! 100% upvote ✨💐✨

Thank youu, and you're welcome <3 I appreciate the love. :)

Yes I would use them! Thank you for your generosity of sharing them with us 💞

:D Yupee! I saw that you already used it. <3 And your last post is beautiful. I love the pictures.

Thank you so much!!

You're welcome :3 I hope you find them useful!

Thank you so much! I would love to use one! They are beautiful. I'll make sure to give you credit.

Yay! You're welcome to use them :3 And thank you for the compliments :)))

That is so nice of you!!!

<3 You're welcome! I hope to inspire some aesthetics to improve the looks of the blockchain.
