+I see a lot of very sharp people on steem using a wide variety of strategies of how they choose to capitalize on their efforts on the steemit platform.
++There are those of us that:
+++Power up immediately after every single payout, which is not such a bad idea. Often these people amongst us find they are here for the long term, don't really get wrapped up in the volatility of the prices. Much more of us are newer to the platform than "grizzled vets" so there really is not much a portfolio of steam dollars/steem to manage. We get paid our little bit, buy steem, transfer it to steem power, and that's the end of it.
++++I am getting the feeling there are those that are also hedging their SBD/Steem by keeping themselves much more liquid, leaving their resources for a down day, or series of days in which has been common the last few days. When SBD had it's meteoric rise after the new year 2018, there were a lot of newbies (myself included), popping instantly their earnings back into powering up their accounts at the very high prices.
+++++There were also a lot of high end holders that capitulated their gains, trading their Steem, locking in their gains after the 300% or so rise, IN JUST A WEEK. That, my friends is sound investing. Even if you are here for the long term you are quite possibly squandering a lot of gains, even if the speculative investment continues to rise. NO INVESTMENT GOES STRAIGHT UP FOR SEVERAL CONSECUTIVE DAYS. Every single breakout investment has squiggly lines in their quote because so often people are smart enough to sell significant gains (the higher the gain, the likelier the sell motive increases exponentially to a seasoned investor especially day-trader) appears at a feverish pitch.
Today I am going to congratulate myself as I have just stepped in the latter direction, taking my whopping 0.29SBD and buying Steem when it was down 11+% today. A lot of this is "Investing 101" type of content but there are times when even the most seasoned of us need to re-evaluate what we are doing, getting less emotional, less of meme/bumper-sticker mentality, and go with sound fundamentals.
I think the best way with steemit is to keep it simple unless you are an experienced trader. Looking at adoption statistics we are still early adopters true rewards will come later, power up be active and hold for few years :)

Very true. I think we can become more sophisticated as we grow and become more "fluid." Ha, my 29 cent trade probably didn't exactly shut the market down, it was more a bit of a sarcastic "pounding of the chest." Thanks for the input @damarth it's greatly appreciated!
Damn right. I've held on to all the STEEM I've bought, and it's worked out much better than my foolish attempts at trading.
Holding your STEEM as Steem Power basically forces you to hold on for the long term.
Good points, my intention was to not just immediately (the very second) I get a reward notice to buy steem. More in the light of hanging on to the SBD and waiting to strategically buy in the short term, when there are downturns. I totally agree, daytrading SBD for cash back and forth is a fool's errand, of which you will surely get burned bad if you do it for a long time. My personal opinion was that I follow my gut feeling of where the market can go in a few days, and buy steem and power up that way rather than just the second I get it. I surely am not claiming everyone follow this like a stock, it is not that at all. I have, and will continue to buy as much steempower as possible to up my influence on this platform. I am nothing but long here, and love the concept of those that are also have steempower, which is as forward thinking an idea as there is right now within cryptos in my opinion. I also think that steemit is a project in which to invest. But do not expect quick money. In fact, no one is missing from the stars in the sky. Steemit in fact a young project, still only starts here. A long road ahead. And if you are willing to be here to continue his work, then after some time (a year, six months, a few years) you'll be glad that remained.I believe in the success of the platform and everyone who is really ready to go forward and make quality content.

There is going to be all kinds of crazy stuff going on effecting this community for the good, bad and the ugly. Anything worthwhile is surely never easy. Yeah, maybe even not as much time as we think it may take right now, very possible. Ha, I really don't have much of a choice to buy much more than a little, but for sure powering up is my main focus right now, and for the future as far I can see ahead right now. The conversations I have had on here over the past few weeks have been stellar, and thank you @robert-call for your input, it's very valued, have a great rest of your day, I like the avatar by the way.

Great post...I think your right about different people in this platform, even though it pigeon holing the masses....do you think whales and big dolphins purposefully move the market depending on what the minnows and less financially minded are doing? I suppose it would be easy to do?
No they don't move the market intentionally at all, in all seriousness. That is the mix of them, the casual masses like us, and the public "outsider" trading in this. There is absolutely no pigeon hole theory that is always right, I was actually noting the chance for even noobies like myself to pay more in depth attention to the market swings, and possibly maximize our transactions. My last name isn't Steemit so my opinion is worth no more than anyone else's right? Sarcasm, I love it. Thanks for the comment @max-winner keep them coming! Keep doing what you are doing by having REAL conversations with other people in areas you like and enjoy, and can share your well thought out opinion. I think good commentary develops much more of an audience. The steemfollower platform I mentioned in the previous post is a nice way "weaponize 5-10 votes a day" and turn them into more of working asset. When visit with people on there I talk with them about their post, mention I found them on steemfollower, kindly remind them I post content on similar topics, thank them again and leave my last comment as my action UPVOTE (and/or) RESTEEM. Again, feel free to shoot with any questions, I like to help people get going on here, I have spent a lot of time on here since I joined and have able to research what many people are doing here as you may have found, there aren't many secrets kept on this platform. At least not for long if there ever are.

Until you are at a certain level of steem power, you will always vote with 100%. Let me find out I have always been curious on that number...

Yeah I logged in with my posting key and all, but can only ever vote for 1 post every many hours (from 2 to over 12hrs...). When I try to vote a second post it says I've used up all my voting power for the day. Sounds like I should be seeing this message after having voted the max number of times, not just once...
I did some checking on Discord, there have been a few people reporting the same problems. I haven't run into it yet. I would say to give it some time, it will be good to go.
