I Just Got Approval From Two of My High School Teachers to Work on Steemit During Class Time.

I signed up for Steemit last year, but the potential of it all hadn’t dawned on me and I wasn’t really taking it seriously. But recently I began to realise that Steemit could really change my future, both financially and through the things I learn here, if I’m willing to invest the time.

Finally seeing the value of Steemit, and considering the flexibilty of the school I’m in, I asked some of my teachers if I could post on Steemit during classtime.

So what did I actually get permission to do?

In some of my previous posts I’ve mentioned the high school that I’m currently enrolled in. It’s a school that basically lets me take control of my own learning, so I talked to both my Media and Entrepreneurship teachers (yes, I have an entrepreneurship class). I figured there was no point talking to my Self Defence teacher about it :)

Considering the financial potential, my Entrepreneurship teacher said that it would be a great project for his class. Because of the opportunity to improve my media skills, I was also able to convince my Media teacher to let me use Steemit as a project. All up that would be 7 and a half hours per week I can work on Steemit at school.

Now, I wasn’t sure if I was going to continue with my media class next semester because I felt like I wasn’t getting what I wanted out of the class. But since it could mean more Steemit time, I just might stick around in that class for a while.

Here are a few reasons I’m pumped about being able to post on Steemit during school time:

1. I get to spend my school days connecting with and learning from heaps of awesome people.

steemit community.jpg

I’m really happy to know about Steemit while it’s still in its early stages, and that I’m able to learn from the community here on Steemit. Some very unique people have been attracted to Steemit early on, such as @papa-pepper who seems to be using different forms of media really well, which is something I can learn from.

I’ve also been able to meet people like fellow musician @chrisgoans. I can’t wait to continue to meet more people in the Steemit community.

It’s also an excellent opportunity to learn and practice my writing, communication, and media skills (if I can get more comfortable behind a camera).

2. Even during school, I can start building toward my financial future and maybe even make Steemit my job.

I’m only 14 years old, but I’ve recently been wanting money for certain things I want to do, whether it’s going to some sort of event or just seeing a movie with friends. I’ve been saying things like, “I can’t wait until I’m old enough to get a job next year.”

Imagine if in about a year I could be making enough money from each post so that I didn’t have to get a job. I could potentially even be making more than my friends at their jobs. Even if I don’t, Steemit is a great investment of my time, which we could see proof of in the next few years.

Here’s how I see it. Etheruem is now up to around $350, and it’s been around a year and nine months since it started (ten months in July I’m pretty sure). What if in five to seven years I had 7000 STEEM in my account, which is a very realistic goal. If STEEM then went up to $300 (which is less than what Ethereum is at in under two years), then that’s $2.1 million.

financial-equalization-1015309_960_720.jpg

My dad has been talking to me about passive income. STEEM at $300 would pretty much sort that out and I could focus on my music and not worry about having to make money from it.

Even if none of that happens, over the next few years, I would much rather make a little money doing what I love than trading my time for money at a fast food restaurant.

3. I get to model Steemit success to my friends at school.

steemit success.jpg

One thing that I’ve seen so far on Steemit is how important it is to spread the word to our friends. The more it grows, the better it is for all of us.

In other words, I hope all the other kids at school will see me on Steemit and get a big dose of FOMO.

Working on this at school is the perfect opportunity to show Steemit to my friends and other students at school or in my class. Especially once I get more of a following, other students are going to want in on this new way of blogging.

What’s not to love? Assuming people want to listen to you, you’re getting paid with the currency of the future for writing about whatever you want.

Where to from here...

I’d like to post as often as possible, but also have good quality posts. Not four or five crappy posts a day, or one great one every four or five days. Being able to write on Steemit at school would help with this because I could spend a lot more time on it.

I realise that it’s going to take time and persistence to get to where I want to be, but once I get there the view is gonna be great.

You will probably make more money during class than they will teaching. LOL

Haha hopefully if all goes well I will. Probably wouldn't be that hard.

haha my first thought! Best of luck!

Sad but true. Teach the Teachers how to Steemit!

There is that interesting potential.

Steemit is great and full of potential!! I am here for 4 days still trying to figure out 😅. Anyway about doing at school.. will try it at work.!!!! 😂 we never know!!!

Yeah try it for sure! Good luck on figuring everything :)

Thanks! Best luck!!!

Great accomplish! More and more Steemit gets popular the more we all will see benefits from it. Quality content & great community sense is what will guide us to collective and individual success here.

Yeah I agree and cheers :)

That's so cool that your school's letting you use the platform while in school - very progressive of them! It looks like you're off to a great start, keep up the great work! :)

Hi @crypticus welcome to Steemit. I am a teacher and I asked all my creative writing students to sign up for steemit. They write under the gedwriting tag, and there are specific groups that follow these kids. You are welcome to use the tag. I think it is wonderful that you have a teacher like that. My students post all their essays and projects on Steemit and it is amazing to see what some of them come up with. You will never look back. Good luck with your journey here on Steemit, and if you struggle, please ask and I will gladly help. How amazing is it that you can create a passive income by sitting on your butt and not run around like crazy in a restaurant...lol...

Haha yeah the passive income opportunity is great. I'm really grateful to know about Steemit so early on! Thanks for that, and yeah I've been planning for a while to put my schoolwork on Steemit I'm just waiting until I have an essay or story, etc. to post. I think that's awesome what you're doing with your students too. Great to see more and more young people joining Steemit. I'll check out your blog.

Awesome man, keep up the good work!

the school system is old, need to be changed. Allowing steemit is a good start

Definitely! I agree 100%. That's probably one of the biggest things our school pushes, which is changing the traditional way of education. Completely outdated.

@crypticus, when I first found steemit, I thought, wow, what if teenagers started posting here and earned their own pocket money or built up their college fund or savings for a house or vacations - or whatever!!
You are a smart kid for having realized the potential and you are an entrepreneur at heart. I think you will do really really well here!

Thanks! Hopefully I can make the most of Steemit and it's potential.

This is awesome! ... not to quote

That is awesome. ~ @scaredycatguide

Who had the same thought as me and I'm sure a few others. Great to hear and look forward to your endeavors with steem(it)!

...Even during school, I can start building toward my financial future and maybe even make Steemit my job...

Hi crypyticus, this is one the coolest posts that I have ever read on Steemit!

I really commend you for the ambition it must have taken you to get approval from your high S\school teachers to work on Steemit during class time!

(I should have applied myself more when I was in high school too!)

Wow thanks! I just hope I can continue to apply myself all throughout high school and don't lose sight of my goal.

Re-steemed and followed! This is wonderful. My son Cody is 10 and I'm excited to hear the news about schools approving steemit! WOW! :)

You've received a Stellabelle Resteem.

Thankyou so much! Whats kind of funny is I can't remember what post I saw but you were one of the first people I ever followed about a year ago. Thanks for the support :)

ha ha! Well, this post of yours is so amazing. I got permission from a teacher to give a presentation on Steemit next school year! So I will be introducing it to kids here....You have good teachers.

Thankyou so much, I really appreciate the support! It's awesome to see so many new young people my age joining Steemit.

Believe me, I am soooooo relieved. Steemit was kind of dead a few months ago!

Wow. That sounds like an amazing school. It looks like you're taking all the right steps and you've got a great support system in your family and school. And you're 1000% correct. Focusing on quality content is the best way to build a following that will truly appreciate your work. Best of luck to you in pursuing your future goals 👍.

Thanks, I really appreciate the feedback. I'll check out your blog.

That's smarts kid. Thinking outside the square will take you far. Upvoted and resteemed. SirKnight.

Thanks I really appreciate that! :) Hopefully the more people that see the post will get the idea and maybe try to do similar things so Steemit will just keep growing.

I was talking to your Dad a couple of nights ago about your potential - thought some sort of executive appointment might be in order - how does TEAM AUSTRALIA's Head of Youth Development sound? Responsibilities to include: Youth Recruitment and design of youth related campaigns - both fun and educational; and basically keeping the team cool for the kids mate. Interested?

Definitely! I'd be honoured. We should could connect on Steemit.chat sometime to discuss ideas, etc.

I'm glad - will be on chat tonight if you are around. SK.

wow ! u r making huge progress! how did u actually convinced them ?)

Thanks! Well my school is all about the future sort of stuff that cryptocurrency is, so they would love this kind of thing if more of the teachers or principals (that's another thing, there isn't just one principal) heard about it. You can read more about my school in a post my dad did here:
https://steemit.com/education/@jasonstaggers/what-if-students-controlled-their-own-learning
It's a really cool, unique school.

That's interesting... I've spoken about Steemit to a few teachers and students - most of them don't get it... yet!!
upvoted and followed. I curate the @math-trail too.

Cheers! Yeah hopefully the more Steemit grows the more students and teachers will understand.

Awesome @crypticus! Good writing! That's the way to go! Great that your school is supporting the future, if only all teachers encouraged students to sign up for steemit...

Yeah it would be much better if they all did. The old way of education is completely outdated and if more teachers supported things like Steemit the system would get so much better over time.

Your school sounds very progressive, like a Montessori or IB school. You're very lucky.

Yeah it's actually very similar to all the Montessori schools in Finland, and I am very grateful to go to such a school. If you want, you can read some more about my school in a post my dad did here:
https://steemit.com/education/@jasonstaggers/what-if-students-controlled-their-own-learning

I just checked your dad's article out. Sounds like a great place for an education. BTW I'm a teacher. Spent 23 years teaching high school physics at a small independent school in the USA and have been teaching English in China for nine years now.

Yeah it's a great school I love it there. That sounds like a pretty cool experience teaching English in China. Also sounds hard. Best of luck teaching and on Steemit :)

Hardest part is to get Chinese students to speak up in class. Never had that trouble in the States! LOL

Damn you sure are lucky to have a school like that . My school is always about the text-book.Nothing is allowed outside the textbook topics.

Yeah unfortunately most schools are just going by the same outdated way of education. You'll notice that everything has changed throughout society except schooling. Hopefully things like Steemit can help change that.

but don't forget to study well.

Don't worry I wont :)

I wish my teachers were that cool haha

Haha yeah hopefully more and more schools in the future will do this kind of thing. Thanks for reading :)

There is good teacher and bad teachers.. you unfortunately got the bad ines🤣

I guess everyone has their own way of making people understand the importance of education , watch them fall or guide them to success

Indeed!!! Its a bit like steemit😁. You follow or u don't 🤣

Cool that you can "work" on steemit.

Yeah it is. I'm super grateful that I go to the sort of school with teachers that let me do this sort of thing.

A unique approach, good luck.

cheers :)

Ring The Bell! Steemit is probably a better lesson that most of your high school curriculum...

Yeah, true!

That is awesome. Wow, getting started on steemit in HS. Take advantage of the early start kid, take advantage.

Haha I'll try cheers :)

Well done @crypticus, you show incredible maturity for your age - really impressed. This school sounds amazing too, is it an Australian school? Please tell us more.

Thanks, I really appreciate it! The school is in Melbourne, you can read more about in a post my dad did here:
https://steemit.com/education/@jasonstaggers/what-if-students-controlled-their-own-learning

That is amazing, never even crossed my mind that it would be a state school. We need schools like this in every capital city + all the regional centres plagued with high youth unemployment. @jasonstaggers

Definitely! I completely agree, we need more of these schools. The education system is so outdated. You'll notice that pretty much everything has changed over the last couple hundred years except for schooling. It's the same as it was 300 years ago.

That is great news. I hope you have fun while educating yourself and securing financial rewards too!

Thanks! I'll try :)

Sounds like you've got a great plan in place and a good head on your shoulders. Build your audience. Comment often. Interact. Share your content. It's the key to success here. And you should check out @theprophet0 - he's the youngest Steemit witness at 15 yrs. old. It's pretty cool to see young people come aboard and get a foothold here.

Thanks for the feedback and advice. I'll check out @theprophet0, and yeah it's really great to see more and more people my age joining Steemit.

Indeed!
I'm not young but I did spend a significant amount of time in the last year building up my following; lots of comments and posting content. And thanks to Steemit I was able to power down enough to pay for travel expenses and graduation gifts for two of my sons' graduation from Marine Corps bootcamp. Man, if Steemit was around when I was your age??? I probably wouldn't have to work anymore!

That's awesome that you did that stuff with the STEEM you earned. Just another example of the value in cryptocurrency these days. Haha yeah hopefully one day I'll have some sort of passive income stream so I won't have to work, and I could spend time with Steemit or music.

For music, here are a few people to follow: @verbal-d @steevc and @soundlegion. I know I'm missing a whole bunch of really good musicians. My apologies to them. Also, @luzcypher hosts a weekly open mic contest where you have an opportunity to win prizes! Check out the #openmic tag

Thanks, and yeah I've actually seen the open mic contest it's pretty cool. I've thought about entering a couple times and probably will next week

Good deal man, very smart and efficient way to utilize your class time if you ask me ;)

Thanks :)

WOW man. I bet there are a lot of people like myself that get a HUGE reassurance for our future by seeing young people like yourself so on top of your shit (: kudos bro, you are awesome. I am 22 and I wish I found out about Steemit when you did! Upvoted & followed 😎

@crypticus, guess what, you are already a millionaire!

Your foresight as a 14yo man is way beyond your years. You're so far ahead of your classmates. You have writing skills that I would not expect from someone your age. Keep hammering those keys in class. You will win.

Thanks! I really appreciate the support and encouragement. Hopefully I can be consistent with quality posts. :)

The fact that you're here at your age is impressive enough. I read your post and didn't find a flaw. I always find a flaw with other's writing. That's pretty good. Steem On!

Wow thanks that's great to hear. I'll check out your blog :)

Hahaha! So beautiful! Enjoy your education and steemit world concurrently. I hope you will make upper class. Just kidding.
Nice post. You have my upvote

Cheers I really appreciate it :)

That's awesome! It's great that your teachers can see the value in it and are willing to let you work in class time!

Yeah it is! I can't wait to see what the future of Steemit holds.

Great post, hope you enjoy yourself on Steemit! I wish you get really successful here on Steemit and you can show your school friends that it is an exiting social media platform.

Thanks! Yeah, hopefully I can help make Steemit popular within my school and possibly outside school by just showing as many people as possible.

Wow for a 14 year old you certainly are on the right way! Both with writing and life stuff.

Haha thanks! Hopefully I can continue to write good quality posts :)

Obviously, being able to take control of your own education is working! I love to see younger people take initiative for their education. Not only are you learning, but you are learning about what you love. Loving what you learn I believe is the key to retaining information and achieving a career you will excel at because you truly enjoy it. Good work @crypticus!

Thanks I appreciate the feedback :)
