Cell Phones for Children? You may want to think twice.

in #steemit7 years ago (edited)

Sitting on my porch contemplating CELL PHONES FOR CHILDREN. Should kids have cell phones? I hear stories about cancer risks, robot kids focused only on their electronics, etc. Sitting back and enjoying life is what life is all about. Not playing with some phone. Well, at least that's the ideal. The kids just picked up a bunch of rocks and began throwing them toward me. Not sitting back anymore.

I remember the summer's of my childhood. I used to play outside all day long. My mother would have to drag me and my brothers inside by the ears a lot of times. Climbing trees and making forts was the big thing growing up. There was nothing like a secret hideaway with gold treasure inside.

Today its a little sad seeing so many children using cell phones. I remember when I was a 6th grader and we purchased a push button phone for the wall. I think it was around 1980 or so. I thought we had made it in life. So funny. Today so many children simply look to their phones for pleasure. Gone are the days when children played outside without a care in the World. Now they simply walk around playing video games and talking smack to their friends. I SAY, TAKE THOSE PHONES AWAY! Its time we got our children back to what they should be doing... Being a Child and actually using their minds to create.

My kids? They don't have cell phones. More then likely they will get a cheap one when in high school. Not looking forward to that day for sure. If you have children, take some time each day and spend it with them. Here today and gone tomorrow. If your young child would rather mess around on a cell phone then spend time and talk with you, then by all means get rid of the phone. Time to go for a hike in the yard. The yard can be a place of play and mystery for a young mind. I remember when my 2 oldest girls were 3 and 4. We used to take walks in our front yard and go by the trees. We called the trees the enchanted forest. Oh what fun they had. Memory building. Better then digital upload building for sure.

So if you are thinking about purchasing a cell phone for your grade school'er you may want to reconsider. Think of the consequences. Good Luck.

Take care all of you parents and future parents. Have a great day and I will see you on Steemit.

I think you can buy you children a cell phone but its use must be supervised. Your children can have bragging rights at school even if the cell phone is only kept at home. However no games allowed!

My 5 and 6 year old have a toy cell phone. I mean, I'll let them use one of mine or my wife's phone if they go on a field trip when they are like 10 or so. They won't have one of their own however. Maybe in high school? Who knows. Cheers.

We only gave an old phone our 9 year because he felt he was missing out at school when all his firends talked about owning a phone. He now can say he has a phone and laptop. Yes, we also said this old laptop belongs to him. Though we don;t let him pay games on them at all. hough he learning to use powerpoint and typing on the laptop.

Upvote for good post and no phones. I think parents should serve as good example as children copy their every step.

Absolutely. I really need to just get a house phone again and ditch the cells. Thanks for the compliment.

If they are still small I agree that they should not have one. They still have lots of years to come to use them.

That's how I look at it too. Thanks for the reply stardust. Cheers.

I'm in high school and I use a flip phone. It is more cost-friendly, and it makes me feel better because at parties or social gatherings I'm not glued to a screen. I'm glad my parents don't want me to get a smartphone.
