WARNING! WARNING! Steemit-Based Scam Announced: $10 million prize pool

in #steemit7 years ago (edited)

There is post currently sitting on the trending page receiving a massive amount of support. I am shocked to see so much support for what appears to be a cookie cutter boiler plate scam. The article I'm writing about is this one: https://steemit.com/introduceyourself/@matttrainer/steemit-based-reality-game-announced-usd10-million-prize-pool by a new user @matttrainer.

The post oozes of self aggrandizement and boiler plate marketing tactics designed to use your human weaknesses against you, specifically greed. Here are a few choice excerpts from the post:

I've been teaching for years and I have several hundred successful students. Many have made more than six figures in just a few months. One star student even did $2 million in sales ONE DAY from the game I taught him.

In just one of the games we have, a 71 year old newbie grandma made $6,800 in her first month.

What is this crap? Am I watching an infomercial from the 90s at 2AM? Everyone's alarm bells should be ringing when they read this kind of stuff. It is a get rich quick scheme and it's obvious. The whole article reads like this. It's completely disconnected from the title and doesn't even flow as a coherent article. I thought I was going to read about a game on Steemit not about how much money he's made for everyone his life.

So who is Matt Trainer?

If you do a quick Google search with Matt's name you'll find that about half the results are scam reports and warnings. Here are just a few:

http://behindmlm.com/companies/dubli-network/wukars-matt-trainer-slams-dubli-they-lied-to-us/
http://www.ripoffreport.com/reports/matt-trainer/west-hollywood-california/matt-trainer-mml-innovations-inc-matt-trainer-100-million-dollar-exit-complete-scam-w-1161496
https://www.pissedconsumer.com/company/dubli/team-wukar-in-dubli-matt-trainer-are-complete-frauds-20150115583010.html

The rest of the results look a lot like Matt's article. Just BS fluff content about how rich he can make you.

Why is this getting upvoted?

I will admit that I can't prove that whatever Matt is up to is a scam. It certainly looks like a scam though and it should be obvious to anyone reading it. Why is his article getting so much support from Bitshares whales? The amount of upvotes on that post is disgusting. I'm guessing most of the big voters are also major BTS holders and want to help grow that system. But come on have some integrity. Is this the kind of thing you want people to associate with Bitshares? Shadey scammers with cheesy and transparent pitches. Yuck.

Update

@matttrainer has left Steem folks here is what he changed the post in question to:

"Bye steemit. You're not ready for this."

Yeah, was reading about this in chat a little. Signal boost, resteemed.

It's a $15million prize pool now.... In just a few hours...

Sounded to good to be true. I am glad there is people like @contentjunkie that exposes bullshit like this

Fuck this guy

Yep. and enough gold to more than cover that. The only question is... how much did they pay for 1 million ounces of gold.?
All I can go by is the webinar, and I'm going to take it at face value until other data emerge. If these guys have a contract for forward production of gold from a mine, I want to know what mine it is, and how difficult it will be to take physical possession of the gold when I want to trade in my Karma. I will play. There is nothing to lose. Steemit as a platform will only be stronger for this.
Sure, the sales routine was a bit like a meeting with someone trying to sell you into a MLM scheme, but if you can look past that to what the possibilities are if these guys are actually going to reward your participation in the steemit portion of the game with Karma tokens... man this could be really interesting.

I just realized. What's a better scam then promising an invisible empire? He can't say we didn't get one!

the emperor's clothes game 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😄😎

With EXCLUSIVE fabric for those that join first!!

(just pay $499 dollars)

@contentjunkie I would rather invest in some cryptocurrency than this scam of 15 million prize pool.

Yeah i saw this. Followed up on their link to investigate and the comments were scary. What makes it so depressing to me is the people who get tricked by this shit are the kind of people who can least afford to be throwing their savings into it. Families actually get ruined by this type of greed.

Anyway, looks like he's gotten some backlash from the Steemit community. Well done! I couldn't be more proud :) And I get a kick out of the way they try to rationalize it

Sorry, may need to drag that picture out of Steemit to view it full size

I can't believe you would rather buy crypto coins that have gone up 500-600% in the last 2 months (for instance, Steem or Golos) than pay money to a stranger who tells you to trust him. You really don't understand a good thing when you see it huh?

People these days. Always choosing smart choices. Weird.

It's really confusing, I bet they bought any of NVIDIA/Facebook/Google/Amazon stock too. Crazy degenerate gambling junkies.

Don't even get me started on those. Kids these days with their winning the stock market. In my day you lost. And you were GLAD.

...you are so awesome. That is all, other than I have had a very amusing and not so productive morning chasing the comments from this idiot around Steemit.

Thank you to you both ( @swolesome and @goingmobile). This made my day!

What's funny is he came onto MY game and talked smack. And even down voted it lol. I told him it's war if he messed with me and my community no scratch that, steemit family . Guess who lost.

Yeah actually I saw it on the game first and got distracted with looking him up. What an idiot (to be nice).

i actually listened it for three hours
https://steemit.com/bitshares/@chrisx/mogul-the-usd10m-dollar-reality-game-on-steemit-have-you-listen-to-their-webinar
but so far i'm not on his USERS TO BLOCK LIST muhahaha
and following u

btw yes i know i shall never feed a troll, but sometimes its just popcorn time ^^

@chrisx that profile picture tho! lol I love it!

hell yeah with purpose...
you need to be prepared when u enter an online community
so i attached some a kind of security melon layer to my skull to prevent me from strange blockwaves
there are so many ^^

With whale upvotes being so easy to buy on Steemit, it was really only a matter of time before this sort of thing started to happen, wasn't it? And it'll be sad if it continues until the trending page is just a mass of scams and spam.

WhaleShares people, I'm sure you mean well for the most part, but I hope you can look at this incident and reconsider whether you're really helping to move Steem in a good direction here.

I wasn't aware this is a thing :(

The more people create warning posts about this, the better, Even better still would be a massive community effort to downvote and totally BURY the original post... not to mention his account, in general.

This does not "represent" Steemit, and we need to show the world that we're a REAL COMMUNITY when the riff-raff comes a-calling.

Obviously "to good to be true" never is. At a glance this looked fishy. lol

"He says this game is being played not only with bitshares, and Steemit, but also 1 million ounces of gold? He says it's backed by 1 million ounces of gold, which is worth roughly $1.28 billion."

Hahaha. Yeah, sure. The scams nowadays are getting bigger and bigger in their claims.

Matt Rainer: Bye steemit. You're not ready for this.

Hahaha.

It looked suspicious to me, so I didn't vote. This just shows that the trending page is broken.

This is my first day here and i'm learning so much! Thanks users like you ;)

LOL, are we rich yet?

I thought it was a parody.

Nice POOL.
Hope they can swim.

I see it's a scam at the first day it was posted.

man thank you for the warning!!

@contentjunkie Thanks for sharing this and thanks for your upvote on my recent post entitled: THE DAY I MET THE QUEEN, MANDELA & PRESIDENT OBAMA

Good catch my good sir!

this seems to be a main problem of Steem: some people who sitting an hour on their articles stays disregarded, while others who are posting 10 ref-/spam-links within seconds gets 50 votes. Strange. This platform really needs a "report spam"-button.

great catch contentjunkie :)

Matt Trainer is a SCAM Champ Lambo and beach house all paid off the backs of victims.............great post and good looking out for the community
