Any visitor would be forgiven for not noticing the four-star hotel hidden within the depths of Chile’s Huilo Huilo Biological Reserve.
From far away, the Hotel Montaña Mágica Lodge looks like a natural mountain with a waterfall running down from the peak. But a closer look at the structure will reveal windows between the running water, with guest rooms hidden inside.
The hotel is hidden away from the rest of the world inside the 230 square miles of forest at Huilo Huilo. The structure is covered in moss and vines and to access it, guests must cross a swinging rope bridge.
But the accommodations are far from rustic. Hot tubs, carved from the trunks of giant trees, surround the hotel. There’s a mini-golf course on the grounds where guests putt around the natural terrain. And for daredevils, South America’s longest zipline (1,500 feet) is nearby.
It’s not uncommon for many of the forest’s creatures to wander around the hotel grounds, including the charming pudu, a miniature deer that’s only about 13 inches tall. There are also several species of trees which have been growing at Huilo Huilo for hundreds of years.
There are only 12 rooms in the hotel, each of which looks like a treehouse fantasy and is named after a local bird. There’s an on-site spa and a restaurant where guests can dine on traditional Chilean meals. And the hotel’s wine cellar offers a variety of Chilean wines.
Rooms at the lodge are available from $202 per night.
