Steemit Philippines Meetup Roundup - Here is What Happened! (Discussions, Presentations, Food, Prizes, and Fun!)

in #steemit7 years ago (edited)

Dear Steemit Friends!

Saturday August 5, 2017 - I had the pleasure to attend the Steemit Philippines Grand Meetup this weekend. As you all know, Steemit is a decentralized platform that empowers people to come together to collaborate, share ideas and experiences, voice opinions, and make a difference in communities. This meetup was a continuation of that initiative to help spread awareness to the Philippines community. The excitement, hard work, and passion of all the people who organized and attended the event made this meetup a very successful event - a good start to what I expect to be many more events to come.

Initially the list of RSVP attendees was around 25, but the actual attendance once the event kicked off ended up being 30-40 participants. It was an evening of Introductions, knowledge sharing, QAs, and an all-around good time for all of those who attended. Below is a recap of some of the presentations and discussions that started the evening off:

@sasha.shade kicked off the event with a warm welcome and opening remarks. Since we had a few guests who were new to Steemit, (some of which did not even have accounts yet) he went over a brief explanation of what Steemit was, the technology behind the platform, and about the community itself.

@deveerei followed by sharing his experience with Steemit and how as a graphic artist he was able to establish himself and share his talent with the community. He talked about the various contests that he participated in which were hosted by some well known whales and members of Steemit such as @steemgigs / @surpassinggoogle and @officialfuzzy - who incidentally also promoted and contributed some giveaways for this meetup.

Unfortunately @dreamiely was not able to attend the event so instead, @jeanelleybee did an excellent job following up by explaining the various methods that Steemit users had at their disposal to convert their hard earned Steem dollars to Philippine Peso.

When that was complete, we took a short break to enjoy the food that was catered by the venue (Thank you Rehab Restobar for hosting us and allowing us to use your venue for this event.) During this short break many of the guests took this opportunity to meet and chat with one another. There was a buzz of excitement around the room the entire event.

Thumbs up from @deveerei for some of the delicious food that was provided

Once everyone got enough food, I shared some of the very limited information about being a witness - What is the responsibility of a witness, the process for setting up a witness, and a brief overview of why i chose to become a witness and a brief overview of some of the projects we were working on.

As a close to the formal discussions, @luvabi talked a little about Whaleshares. She talked about the community that @officialfuzzy had created to encourage and support steemit users in projects and other endeavors that they wanted to initiate. She gave a brief overview of the bitshares exchange and the benefits to being active participants and members of the Steemit community.

In close it was time to award the raffle winners BEYONDBIT tokens which were donated by @officialfuzzy - Thanks for helping to sponsor this event! Below are pictures of the various winners that were selected randomly.

@craftech - our youngest Steem Philippines member at the age of 15 (If i heard correctly)

@deveerei - an amazing artist and an individual i got the chance to talk to a lot during the event

@monkeypattycake - one of the newer steemit PH members

There were also several other prizes provided by @luvabi for the first 20 guests who showed up early to the event as well as SBD prizes provided by @sasha.shade for a reputation contest he held up to the day of the event.

The entire event was LiveStreamed on Google Meetups, Youtube, and Facebook! You can check out the Video in my Previous Post HERE.

During the event T-shirts designed by @haleyaerith, @deveerei, and @tjpezlo were also available for sale, which you can see several of the participants wearing.

Shirts from @deveerei - 25% of profits from this shirt go to UNICEF Philippines

All-in-all, the event was a great success. The participation was more then what was expected, the questions and discussions were insightful and immersive, and we were able to spread awareness and sign up several new Steemit users. As one of the first of many, I look forward to larger and more grand meetups and helping the PH community spread Steemit across the Philippines.

A special Thanks to @luvabi, @jeanellybee, and @grazz for working tirelessly in making this event possible. Your hard work and dedication made this event a success. I met so many wonderful and talented people and I hope that I will get the opportunity to partner with all of you on future projects, collaborations, and activities. Here's looking forward to bigger and better things for Steemit and Team Philippines!!

Yep. Amazing what this platform has helped to achieve. I too am looking forward to the next event. Bigger and Better!!

We can make it bigger. I've been in groups and blogs. When they make meetups it's around 50-100 or even more people. I wonder if I can bring them all here. I have tried bringing some great bloggers into the meetup however their schedules were preventing them from coming. I won't give up though.

We won't give up ;)

Amazing guys!!!

Hope to see you at a future event!

As a Filipino citizen and steemit user, I am so glad and happy for these milestone.

WOW great presentation, im trying to help African steemit users arrange meetups, , But i found this image whiole google imaging "Steemit Philipones" so i expected this post to be very old

i just saw its only 4 days odl so i was hapy i coudl still upvote the price of this post!

NOW whats crazy is i was looking for steemit philippines images to popst in a comment from @antoinete who just got to the front page asking for some help paying her rent to keep from being homeless with hr children, and its AMAZING to see the support she got in upvotes and in actual SBD donations!

You should riude her wave of attentiona nd popularity right now to promote steemit philipines as a GREAT tool of HUMANITARIAN aoid, or at least use your steemit philipines meetups to put spotlight on philipinos who are mistr poor or young peopel who most need opportunities, so go tpo those big call centers and poach employees! Tell employes of big call centers that they can use thir english skills to make hundreds of dollars a day instead of being a slave at a vall center for pennies

anyway check it out! shes on front page of steemit! Front Page of #trending steemit.com/trending

Just wanted u to know so u could maybe take advantage of this opportunity to get Philipines some attention!

Thanks @ackza. Yup our meetups and community events are geared towards promoting Steemit in the Philippines as well as providing the many talented PH users and communities an alternative to the stressful and often times low paying jobs that they do during the day. Many of our new members make a better living off of Steemit then they do at their current day jobs. We are also promoting the ecosystem for those who struggle to find work. We have several initiatives and projects in the works and you should see a regular update from most of the members we want to continue to promote and recognize. There is a lot of untapped talent that deserves to be recognized - not just in the Philippines but globally and Steemit is a platform that will help many communities and individuals.

Good luck in your endeavor as well. Let me know how I can help!

I just mentioned u in my latest post! https://steemit.com/money/@ackza/teamsteem-just-sent-usd100sbd-to-philippines-steemit-user-antonette-who-avoided-homelessness-by-asking-steemit-for-help i mentioned your post and the steemit meetup, its gonna be huge in philipine sman, huge philipino community herein san diego! id love to help u guys reach out to American "proud Pinoy's" io went to school with alot of philipinos and yeah you guys need crypto currency and have a MASSIVE economiuc potential for gwoth!

u will become the new leaders of your Country! Your people will look up to you for improving their quality of life!

Thanks @ackza. I feel the same way for other emerging countries such as Africa, India, etc. - even the US. There is so much untapped potential in this world and the opportunity to do good in all Geo's. My focus is in the communities and countries where Steemit can do the most good, where poverty is high and opportunities are low.

Thanks for the support and mention. I'll check out your post as well.

Oh yes the effect of steemit on developing nations will be MUCH more visual and obvious than on developed nations. people in USA can get EBT food stamps ($200 a month fre food money!) and so American are fuckin fine haha they get welfare and get thousands a month in free money if they want, or they can get a job if they realy want, and people who cant get a job at least can get online for free, use their GOVERNMENT ISSUES FRE SMARTPHONE aka Obamaphone, yes they give smartphones for free with FREE service toi EEVRYONE in the United States, its crazy but true! And you can use fre wifi all over every US city many neighborhoods even have a free public wifi now for low income comunities which raly is cool, and so people in tHE US can be homeless, beg on teh street and make $100 a day not pay any taxes, live in a ent in a canyon and end up being fine, get free food from passerbyes or soup kictnhes of their $200 a month EBT, everyone in USa has it VERY easy NONE is hungry everyone even homneless are VERY well fed and have PLENTy of money to buy alcohol and heroine nd Meth ...so ys we should focus on the dveelopingw orld hahaha

the developingw orld NEEDS steemit and dare I say, they DESERVE steemit more than spoiled americans?

I believe developingw orlds peopel have TOILED in the fields and worked manual labor jobs for so many years, being paid so low, that they , in my eyes, deserve a break, nothing says they actually deserve anythuing, noone owes them anything BUT in my eyes, bcause its SO EASY for us to help them get a leg up, then WE SHOULD give them some help, bevcause we have all this technology all these extra resources that we really dont need, and many of us could save our money and INVST and CREATE SMALL BUSINESS to make our "donation/invstment BACK to make it a sustainable use of our money, But we could invest money into solar panels for the developingw orld, perosnalluy fiond people in these ndeveloping natiosna nd puchase them a smartphone or a solar panel or pay for the rinternet or help them setup some free wfi for their school, and watch as they start msking money on Steemiut for example, and this will allow you to eventually make that money back, and allow people to help tjemelves!

anyway so many ways we can help peopl with steemit! Lets setup awareness of how cheap android smartphones are, we need more andorid smartphones in more developing natoions peoples hands! Smartphones with solar battery chargers are the ONE tool that can help THE MOST we should start collecting and shiopping them ovr OR just set up more Free computer labs with free wifi in more and moe patrrs of the developingw orld. people just ned somewhere to go and work on;line untill they can raise enough money to buy their own smartphone , which they can do working on steemit! we shoukld create steemit Job Core where we can show peopel what typ[es of posts they can make to automatiucally earn like my "What you missed on Reddit" Pics series etc
