The Importance of Community

in #steemit7 years ago

I haven't been on steemit for an incredibly long time. However, I'm already what would be considered a dolphin. I don't take that position lightly, either. My upvotes or flags can have a lasting effect on someone's reputation here on steemit.

With that all out of the way, I'd like to discuss the importance of comradery. Here on steemit we have an obligation to one another. We're called to seek out great content and reward the creator of said content. Being stingy or only upvoting yourself doesn't help this blockchain grow. In fact, it would have quite the opposite effect. I encourage everyone to get involved in the beautiful community. I've already made many friends on this platform. When they post something, I'm immediately there to support them. That's what this is all about.

I'd like to take quotes from two people in this community that I look up to. These two gentlemen are doing a fantastic job of helping the community flourish.

"It's possible that minnows might become to precious with their votes. If that happens then the imbalanced power structure that people have complained about on Steemit will remain unchanged.

In order for the point of this fork to be realized, minnows will have to vote, and often -- we have been given the opportunity to have a more powerful voice, and if we do not seize this power and put it to good use, the next fork will change it all.

So my advice to the minnows is this: GET VOTING!!"

You can read the article this was taken from here: https://steemit.com/steemit/@shayne/steemit-progress-report-adding-dead-followers-for-a-kick

"I'm not trying to build a house for myself, I'm trying to build a community."
When asked why he started steemspeak.

All of this being said, the point I'm trying to make is that we need to be there for one another. If we don't help one another along the way, this platform will not succeed. Get out there and connect with like-minded people and upvote quality content!

Cheers,
@clayford08

Yeah I agree with you....this is only day 2 for me on Steemit, and I have already invested some skin in the game. I think that we have a great community on here. I think I'll join the steemspeak soon.

Thanks for your informative post, I'll follow you to see if your other posts will teach me about how to be a more successful Steemian. I myself am a crypto trader, and my trading and researching all the different coins brought me here. My own posts will probably be chart analysis to help others in their trading. Feel free to follow if your interested.

Thanks man. I'm a trader as well. I'll be sure to check out your page

I am still new and trying to figure out if I upvote, will it diminish my money? That's my question.

Not at all

I see @clayford08 Right now my votes are pointless, no power LOL. I do not know what to do.

Even if your upvote doesnt bring money, but it still counts. The more upvotes a person gets, the higher his reputition will be. So, you help that person to grow.

OK thanks @-life for clearing that up for me. I am learning.

I looked up your account. You don't have voting power anymore. That's why your vote has no financial worth anymore. A minnow can upvote 10x a day without loosing its voting power. You have to wait some days without upvoting until your power has 100% again. It's better not to go under 70% of voting power. You can look up your voting power at steemnow.com. this a very important tool. You can also see who gave you a vote. Write your account name above right side. Have fun!

I see now @creative-life
I didn't know that.
Next time I will track my power.

Now I am curious if how much steem power I should have to be able to earn maybe 2 SBD a day for upvoting my posts?

Any calculator for that target goal?

Nice

Thanks man

@clayford08, I pulled one sentence out of your post that I feel summarizes your point: "Get out there and connect with like-minded people and upvote quality content!"

JFK was attributed to saying "A rising tide lifts all boats." Steemit is a community, not a collection of non-connected individuals. We really need other people, and it make sense to connect with like-minded people. And when those people provide us value, they deserve our upvote.

Thanks man. That's such a great quote from JFK

And we've missed you @clayford08 ;) Thanks for this post, it's definitely something to think about.

I totally agree with you. Steemit is about the community and as far as I have seen the community being amazing Steemit's success is just a matter of time. Yet, the community cannot grow without new people joining (crazy right?!) And although their vote is almost insignificant the value they are bringing is unmeasurable.

So here take my 0,01$ Upvote! I love to show my support anyhow I can!

Feel free to check out my journey maybe you'll enjoy it. \(^-^)/

Followed!

Sometimes the best thing you can do is check on the people you follow and read what they say and leave some thoughtful comments.

I enjoy doing it and believe in it, and it seems that every time I do that I get a nice boost on my posts. Go figure :p

For sure man. Being thoughtful to the ones that support you really goes a long way.

Just wondering, is there a limit on how much I should upvote content each day?

There is. You don't want to drain your power. Your votes will be pointless, without power. You have to find a happy medium
