Steemit Organizational Ethics

in #steemit6 years ago

The word "ethics" comes from the Greek word "ethos", which means character. The word is formed using the Greek prefix "eth" (no not Ethereum),meaning "habit" or "custom", and "os", a suffix indicating possession. An individual's character is based on the quality of their daily habits. In this book, Rhetoric, written in the 4th Century, B.C., Greek philosopher Aristotle listed ethos as one of the three most effective tools of persuasion. Ironically, Aristotle had the time to cultivate the daily habits of studying and writing because his slaves freed him from the necessity of performing any manual labor himself.

Modern ethics can be described as the study of the moral principles that govern behavior. The moral principles of a society are often influenced by religion. However, the fact that slavery is no longer considered morally acceptable is one example of how ethics differ on its moral principles, but can deviate from what is objectively considered ethical. The existence of for-profit prisons is a good example of such deviation. Societies may reach a collective agreement as to what constitutes ethical behavior, but may also themselves become corrupt. Ethics, then, must be a continuous examination of moral beliefs and conduct to establishes and maintain a reasonable standout of behavior.

A society's ethics manifest themselves through defining the virtues, rights and obligations of individual citizens. Usually, a system rewards and punishments is developed and put in a place to keep behavior within socially acceptable limits very much like Steemit is doing now. For a peaceful society to exist, its members must agree to refrain from behaviors such as fraud, rape, theft, assault and murder. Therefore such acts are punished , while acts of honesty and compassion are rewarded.

Now I write this to show you how Steemit is no different than a real outside reward system, with all the Bidbots and trending page issues, being honest and showing community spirit, I suppose is what is ethical on this platform, using Bidbots, mind you its basically the only real way to land on the holy grail of all places here the "Trending Page" is highly unacceptable so it is not reward but punished.

Is there not a way to establish a more rewarding system instead of manipulating our own efforts of being noticed on this platform. what are your thoughts and opinions, I might be beating a dead horse but lets be real, we are here to make money but can money and ethics co-exist in a capitalist platform?

@chronocrypto here's the update on the new drone

you asked about a banner design..is it a banner for your steemit blog?..or different size?

I'm very skeptical of this platforms usefulness. I think it would be more ethical to have a system that eliminates any bot usage. Let everyone develop a following as organically as possible. Write good content in a particular category and if it's not plagiarized or just complete shit you'll get known for it.

My sentiments exactly! This platform is supposed be to social isn't it? Surely the use of bots or automating things is taking away the essence of a social platfrom - human interatcivity.

I think money and ethics can co-exist, ofcourse they can! I think the issue is in the moral values of the people, if you have people well educated on moral values, you have less probabilities that those persons fall on corruptive activities on any plataform (or real life). I think the issue is how we are educating the young generation. The corruption or the cheating action can't occur on a person with good moral standards. What do you think ?

Kind Regards.

Wow

When you copy/paste or repeatedly type the same comments you could be mistaken for a bot.

Thank You! ⚜

beautiful and meaningful writing

Nobody is questioning the money making ability on this platform. In that sense the capitalist platform is acceptable. The use of the bid bots is what is causing us to question the ethics. I mean, in the real writing world it is similar to paying someone to buy your book in the market. Silly and definitely unethical to show sales. That said, the way this platform operates is through bid bot as a marketing tool. So, is it ethical? I will leave that open as of now.

Hey @chronocrypto! I'm new to the community and I do not have enough exposure yet to be able to speak on the issues pertaining the platform, but I agree with your perspective. I feel the lack of ethics is prominent in our society more then ever. I personally believe that money and ethics can and should co-exist, however it seems as though different standards apply to different people depending on their social status, net worth etc. What we must continue doing is speaking out when we whiteness injustice and, I believe that with more and more people waking up and demanding equal treatment for all, change is coming soon. :) Great post!

Very good post thanks for sharing this post

I agree! Ethics and money can coexist! Thank you for your post! I wish you much happiness and prosperity in life!
