In this guide you will learn the 6 most important factors to success on SteemIt, written in an easy to understand way. We're not going to focus on technical explanations, we'll just focus on strategies. This guide is suited for beginner, intermediate and expert level users!
1. Curating
Curation rewards are negligible for most people (especially new users). You shouldn't vote more than 20 times a day with the current implementation, so if you stay below or around that number, you're fine. Voting a LOT more than 20 times is wasting energy that was best spent elsewhere.
2. Quality and frequency of publications
This is most important long-term factor, by far! If you ignore all other tips and only focus on this, you will still achieve success eventually. Adding the other strategies will accelerate your success though.
You should probably shoot for at least 2 high quality publications per week. But what is quality content? Quality content is original, well written, well structured, attractive and effective content about something you're passionate about. It's best not to go above 4 publications per day to avoid receiving reduced rewards.
Examples of high quality:
- Your creations (application, website, drawings, video logs).
- Articles about health, psychology, life lessons.
- Tutorials.
3. Commenting
This is a very overlooked factor. Many people never comment or don't comment enough. That is a very big mistake! Commenting is probably the second most important factor to success on SteemIt.
Commenting makes you much more money than curation rewards and will also get you new followers, new friends, education and satisfaction. From now on never skip the opportunity to comment. It doesn't matter if it's a long or short comment, what the quality of the comment is. Don't be afraid to have fun, make jokes and sometimes invest a lot of time to help someone in the comments or start an interesting discussion!
4. Content promotion
In the beginning this could accelerate your road to success drastically! Even if you lose some money in the short-term, you will likely earn it all back many more times because of all the extra exposure it gives you. The question you need to ask yourself is how valuable your time is. You can absolutely build up your account without ever investing SBD in content promotion.
5. Time of publication
This is probably another overlooked factor. As you might or might not have suspected, the best days to publish your content are Monday-Thursday. On weekends there's seems to be less activity. The best time to publish is a time where the most people in America, Europe and Asia are awake and are most likely to have to access to SteemIt.
6. Footer
Another factor that's overlooked many times is having an original footer below your post that reminds people to vote, comment, follow & resteem. Ideally you have your own logo or something that makes people remember and recognize you.
Conclusion
If you follow all these tips it's almost guaranteed you will achieve success, in a more efficient fashion and in a shorter period of time. Good luck and we're looking forward to your publications!

@xpilar Thanks! Your follow didn't register though.
Thanks for info, follow is ok now
Did you forget to click or was there an actual bug? If there was a bug it could be helpful to others.
It was a bug
Did it keep loading or give an error that "transaction could not be completed" or something?
Pressed the follow, everything seemed to be correct.
Was aware of it when you said
Sunday seems quite a busy day on Steemit. And yes, commenting is awesome as long as you don't spam the network + it gains you and commented person much more connection, so they will probably follow you. But persistence and consistence is the key part.
These are great tips! I'm really new here, and would like to build up a following while also curating and upvoting content. I want to be a PART of the community. Just going through the various posts, I am blown away at some of what is created here. It's absolutely amazing!
As somebody who is new to this platform I really appreciate this post, thank you!

Lol but you don't have a footer.
Look again :)
A footer is something at the bottom of the article or web page. I have one, it's not the greatest though, i'll admit that.
I see a line of text. Am I missing something? I thought you were trying to say a graphic footer.
A footer includes all data below a certain line as far as i know. So text and images all count :)
An image or even your original logo is much better of course. But since i'm a programmer i stay away from graphics design to prevent people from vomiting ;)
Sorry for sounding like an asshole. I tell you what, I'll make you a footer and send you a follow since I was a shit head. That sound good?
No problem, oh you didn't follow yet? Shame on you :p
Do you have some experience with logo design or something then? You don't have to do it, only if you like doing it.
:)
I'll just jump in right here, since you said we should always look for commenting opportunities. upvoted and followed
Fair enough. What you really should focus on vs what a footer is or not is to put some form of call to action in your post.
You did, you should just make it unique. That was more for your readers than you.

IT WORKS....
Yup! It works a lot!
Thank you! that's so great. Personally I like to add as many accesories as I can to my text!
Great tips to success. Thank you. Your insights are logical and applicable.
Thanx for share this.
I'm still trying to find the time to actually put some hours here.
Ill try to keep in mind these tips.
Upvoted already and commented it, cannot promote though :(
Good luck!!!!
Thank you for this great post! Upvoted.
Thanks for the insights. I will try to apply these into my own content as well :)
Taking your advice and leaving a comment. Lol. I actually thought it was a good article. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks, i upvoted your comment so you can buy a house with the $0.00 :)
Amen to that. :) Feel free to follow back.
Just followed you. I like your bio. Don't know if it's allowed on steemit, but you look really pretty
upvoted! Nice collection of areas to focus on, pretty much confirms what I am already following (from earlier experience with social media centralized "stacks").
I find it a bit problematic to outright discourage curating because that seems a bit short-sighted: Steem is not only and not even primarily about making money but about having fun ad about interaction -- also, where would your own upvotes -- hence rewards -- com from if everybody started to follow your advice and "not vote"...?
Also, for real quality content, you may want to watch your spelling and grammar (on weekends, not "in", *time is spent, not "spend", auxiliary clauses are separated by commas & more)...
Some people may not want to up-vote your content if it's badly written, so this might also hurt one's posting success. (Again, I still gave you a courtesy upvote here.)
A good starting point might be this current Steemit post here: https://steemit.com/writing/@dragonslayer109/improve-your-writing-avoid-awkward-sentences
Please note, I am not a native English-speaker either! I am proof of some success and reasonable levels of language quality being achievable though -- even if it's a foreign language...
Thanks for letting me know about the spelling mistakes! Fixed them. I always try to be decent with the spelling & grammar, but after a few hours i'm usually out of energy and just want to publish the content. I'm also a technical guy and don't care about things like language or graphical design. Also, as i mentioned before to someone, i don't want to spend 50 hours on every article to make it perfect. I will remember the corrections you made for the future, thank you very much!
About the curating thing: the main point is that you shouldn't be curating for hours and hours every day to make money from it. Of course it's fine to upvote 10, 20 or 30 posts a day to feel you rewarded the content creators. Most people don't realize just how bad the rewards are and not only invest way too much time on it, they also don't understand the algorithms at all. In fact the power of most people is so small that they can't even reward content creators anywhere near $0.01 and almost always get rewarded <0.001 SP. But you're certainly right that i shouldn't discourage people for voting on content altogether :)
P.S.: sometimes i'm on SteemIt way too long and write while being exhausted, you might recognize the experience ;)
yes, I know that feeling :)
Okay, got it -- then you weren't advising against curating in general, after all. Noted. -- I just want to keep the conversation on Steemit going and not have people feel discouraged from voting, for all our benefits on here.
You're right though, @calamus056, in that it would be unreasonable to spend hours on end just voting (as some of today's smartphone kiddies might, indeed, do -- failed to see that, 'cause that's not me...)
Keep up the good work & good luck here on Steemit!
Let me be a wise ass this time: it's not Steem, it's SteemIt ;)
STEEM is the currency/the name of the blockchain and SteemIt is the blogging platform which is the first application of the STEEM blockchain.
I know (see post, where I used it correctly) -- did I mix it up somewhere else?
Checking reply contents.........................
ah, second line -- there it is. Fixed.
Thanks.
" I just want to keep the conversation on Steem going and not have people feel discouraged from voting, for all our benefits on here." ;)
As always: don't forget to follow and resteem
Is that the footer.
Yup.
Good post, I think a light went up for me. Cool idea about a footer and logo.
Are you following?
写得很好,很有用。谢谢!
Great post! It surely helps for a newbie like me. Thanks much.
X2😀👍
Awesome tips!!! Will try and implement a few of these. Steemit is a great platform and I luv its potential!!!!!!
Follow me if ya like memes and what not.....
Do key words (tags) make a big difference too ?
Hmm good question. I wouldn't say big, but it can certainly only help if you pick the proper tags. I have no real guidelines except for picking popular ones that make sense for your post. In the end it only adds a little bit of extra exposure (only the people that explicitly browse that tag that would otherwise not see your post).
Thanks for the info you put out : resteemed, upvoted and following your page.
Could you do a post on how you manage your rewards ? Do you convert immediately your STEEM dollars to STEEM or STEEM POWER ? Are you holding on to your STEEM or exchanging it for other cryptos ? Thanx!
There is so much information out there already, i don't think there's that much to add anymore. Having STEEM POWER is actually quite useless until you have well over 10,000. If you want to invest you should just buy STEEM at the right price and preferably keep the key offline. If you want to earn with content then you could invest in promoting your content through SteemIt itself.
I really appreciate this post and will be taking notes and making changes thank you
Thank you for advice. I'll definitely get much more involved in commenting, upvoting, resteem interesting posts.
Thank you for the information! The part about what days to post was very interesting!
This is just what I needed as a newbie to this platform, thanks so much :)
Well, thank you very much, seems to very very helpful information., but best of all simple and concise.
Do you mind if I translate it to spanish?
Just upvoted this as newbie. It's in fact the first article that I'm reading on this forum and actually a good kickstart workaround to upload constructive material here. Hopefully you can expect some interesting stuff soon from this Dutch cheesehead ;)
I can definitely be funny in comments but the problem with being funny is there is no way to know if I am funny until someone laughs at what I am thinking of saying.
Gr8 ^^ :)
Example of great and useful content
Thanks buddy I am new on Steemit and would definetely implement these steps.
Hi @calamus056 i'm still very new to steemit so i would like to thank you on this guide. i learned a lot of it, keep up the good work!
