I find a lot of these comments irritating for sure. I'm kind of leaving everyone to be sheriff of their own posts I guess. I haven't personally been impacted too much by the spam comments, but I feel like I may start flagging them on my own posts. I think it's valid in order to sort them out by moving them to the bottom & possibly hiding them, and if done by enough people it will reinforce what is not acceptable etiquette on Steemit and make the spam practice non profitable for those who do it.

Yeah me too, I have been tempted to police other people's posts, but feel it's not my place to do so. I started by giving people a chance to remove their spam, but now, as you say, I'm just going to flag obvious spam.
I guess this is kind of like the early days, when we had an influx of spam-bots, like you say, if we just keep flagging, it will discourage people from doing that, they either won't comment, or will improve the quality of their comments.
So win, win :-)
