What is More Important, a Million Dollars or a Million Friends?

in #steemit7 years ago

I have been on Steemit for just a couple of days and had a total breakthrough on the last couple of hours.

When my friend @joblessjake told me about this platform I thought “great, here is a way to make easy money” and spent the next two days glued to my computer trying to crack the code to make quick money on Steemit. In the meantime I went through all sorts of emotions: disappointment to see my posts get no votes, excitement when I got my first $2 post and disappointment again when I saw that I was still posting with no traction.

In the meantime I have also seen tons of posts and comments get all sorts of $$$$ and that has made me jealous, angry, sad and so on. So of course, I kept pushing and pushing to climb up the Steemit ladder. I guess this is a bit similar to the famous rat race.

Eventually I gave up, I figured that I am just not lucky enough, or maybe my personality sucks, or that I have nothing interesting to share, or no charisma… It was quite depressing…

But then I said “fuck it! I am just going to be me” and posted my first introduction I thought it was perfect and was excepting to see lots of upvotes and $$$ from it, but it only made $4, again, I was disappointed… UNTIL….

Until I saw some of the comments I got on that post, at least half a dozen people appreciating my honesty, my vulnerability, my personality and then I realized….

I rather make a million friends than a million dollars. I rather share my true thoughts and talk about what really matters to me, even if it gets 1/1000 of the money that some random meme post gets. I want to be me and I want people to know me and see me, I want my “followers” to be people that really appreciate who I am. If the money comes, great, but in the meantime I want to surround myself with loving people, if that means more money, great, but I will take friends over money anyway.

LOVE TO YOU ALL

You can't have a million friends.

lol, why not? :)

I'd take 5 of each.

@brunotreves Definitely having some cognitive dissonance going on over here but I am going to have to go with the million dollars and use it to enrich the lives of 10 of my friends in a meaningful way other than have a million less meaningful encounters. Just my 0.000008 btc!

hahahahaha, awesome response! I love the creativity spin to it! :)

Here are some helpful tips to get you started:

Neither. A select group of solid trust-worthly friends (If you find 3 in your life you are lucky), and enough to live comfortably and provide for your family, and a some for charity and that's all you need period. Life is not about either quantity nor currency.

Nice, I loved your balanced perspective on this. Thanks for sharing :)

Years of searching to find this to be the truth. I'm 39 as a reference point, and I have made a shitload of life mistakes lol. I've also been broke as a joke, and currently make a lot of money. Doesn't matter either way, but a certain amount of $ helps make things easier, but not happier.

Thanks for the aged wisdom ;) I appreciate your input very much. :)

np. take that and find your truth.

thanks for your post wich a great day for you :D

I think that a million of dollars is better than a million of friends, because with as much friends as that you can't enjoy them but you can buy things that you love with a million dollars (of course having a million of dollars but no friends is useless 😊)

It depends where you are.. If you are a Forex Trader, I think $1 million would serve you a little more..

But if you're on Steemit... I'd think otherwise :D :D :D

PS. Follow @ENAZWAHSDARB for entrepreneurial value content, my blog!

hahahahaha good point!

I think you are right. if you are genuine the friends will come. then the money will come. Look at this post. you got like $80

Yeah, its really crazy, people say this all the time "things come to you when you stop searching" but I seriously didn't believe it until I saw those $80 on the post, I just wanted to write my heart out and didn't care about the outcome. Such a lovely lesson.

awww, thanks, this is sweet :)

one friend with massive steempower who loves you unconditionally. That's the answer.

lol, I am cracking up

but it is the truth. I have one. He cares for people without conditions. i used to think he was silly, now I think he's closer to a saint.

I know what you mean, I have a couple of friends like that, they are not on Steemit but they just give give give without asking anything in return. Such an inspiration!

Invest in the community! best answer! :)

yes!!!!!!!!!

Maybe with our crypto life styles we can have both?

I certainly hope so :)

hahahahahahahahahaha!!! Nice one!

Welcome to Steemit! Money somehow help when we need but friends are even more importance I think.

100 dollars are 100 dollars.
100 friends (99.99% are fake)
so I prefer dollars my friend ;)

hahaha, you need better friends buddy :)

At least your introduction post did better than mine. Mine only $0.66. Get a million friends is always better than million dollar. Because you will never know that in that one million friends, one of them might give you a million dollar in return.

Excellent thought Bruno. In life, friends are the most valuable thing you can have. Never take a friend for granted.

NEITHER, i'd rather have 300 focused and compassionate friends with ideals and clarity than 1 friend with a million pound and a lambo and bad breath.

Imagine the power of "pay it forward" you could achieve with that number of friends though! If you continuously help your friends , not only will they help you in return, but they will help others, but inside AND outside of your 1,000,000 network. Just imagine; You help 3 people, each of those people helps 3 peoples, and so on and so forth. A massive network of people all striving to improve and enrich the lives of others is SO much MORE valuable than what one person could do with $1,000,000.

Imagine if we could do that with 7 billion people ;)

That's the approach I am taking. Genuine unfiltered outlet to blog, track and post about myself. Un-Filter! Release the inner beast!

lol, yes release the inner beast :) I like that attitude! =D

Welcome to Steemit @brunotreves ! have a nice day

I choose more quality than quantity. I have many friends but in the end, of all of them, there are always a few who value you most, you talk and you make memories with them (Who do you really love). With others, conversations are more superficial (Not necessarily bad) and many end up talking to you for favors "friends". In the case of money, do I really need so much?

I think we need less than what we think, as long as we appreciate it.

This is way too good, my friend :) I'm really down on my voying power and recovering so I'm resteeming this in hope of reaching a few more eyes. We're just going to have to tell it as it is :)

Hey @alexthemagician! Thanks for the re-steem! :)
