I am an old hand in the game of "originality." I have learned two things: ONE is that the more you struggle to be "original" the more you sink and, TWO, "originality" never comes out of research or chasing after what is "trending but out from mostly random impulses that push you to write something you are certain you cannot write.

I've seen this sequence play out with large caliber "successful" people, some of whom still wonder how and why they scored big with that one story--the spirit of which they have been unable to invoke and recreate since.
