Welcome to Ethosha National Park. Home for 114 mammal species, 340 bird species, 110 reptile species, 15 amphibian species and unsurprisingly one specie of Fish. Etosha means the ‘ great white area ‘ this refers to large dried pan in the middle of the Etosha Park.
Ethosa is dominated by a massive mineral pan. The pan is part of the Kalahari Basin, the floor of which was formed 1000 years ago. What makes this park unique is the floodlit waterholes at all the main camps. Visit Etosha National Park in Namibia this season and share in Namibia’s wildlife. Etosha park is any photographers dream.
Traditionally visitors to Etosha had a choice of three rest camps - Namutoni, Halali and Okaukuejo. Each camp has tourist facilities such as a restaurant, a shop (selling only basic goods), a motor garage for fuel and basic repairs, and a swimming pool, as well as various grades of accommodation and camping facilities. Accommodation options inside the park where further increased with the opening of the Dolomite Camp & the Olifantsrus Campsite in the previously restricted western Etosha.
Visitors should note that the park is only open from sunrise to sunset. Outside of these hours, visitors either have to be in one of the camps, or completely outside the park - or sleep in their cars, surrounded by sharp-toothed prowlers and the sounds of bush at night!
Give it a try and you willm never regret your stay there.
