If you have read anything about EOS, then you may have concluded that it just might present a significant threat to our young Steem network and economy. The threat comes from the fact that EOS, should it deliver (and I have two or three powerful reasons to believe it will....bitshares, steem, peerplays,) it will offer unrivalled performance, scaling and interoperability to the platforms and applications that launch within it. I could very well be wrong, but that leads me to consider that someone could very easily launch a Steem competitor with EOS. They may even attempt to split our community by offering one thing and another in order to poach network effect and create disharmony within steem. Given that is a possibility, I think Steemit.inc and all Steemians should consider the value of using some Steem to buy a stake in EOS over their year long distribution.
If EOS delivers, then at the very least we will all share an equal stake in what may well be the blockchain technology that finally asserts itself as the premier solution. The stake could be used as a buffer from competition or could directly pay for us all to migrate into EOS, thereby protecting our community.
Naturally it is for whoever controls the Steemit account to decide. I hope they are open to discussing a suggestion like this. A lot of people have strong ideas about the Steemit account, I'm no different. I know that further development of Steemit will not need anything like 134 million dollars. That level of dominance in the Steem economy is in danger of becoming an obscene liability to it's viability. This fact has been, I believe acknowledged by Steemit.inc and there may be plans being made on how to address it....I wished they moved a little faster but I guess it is quite the challenge.
The idea has already been floated within the bitshares community. We should start discussing it now as there is no time to lose.
Happy Steeming
Dan said that whether Steemit brings EOS on board or not is entirely up to the Steemit team. I also hope they do, but it's up to them at the end of the day. Good post!
If the steemit community wants EOS onboard then steemit.inc team must respect it, else they will be soon just be a team to be remembered (RIP).
I like how steemit.inc leaves the decision to the community. It greatly reinforces the overall user focus that makes this platform special. I hope it all turns out well!
surely it will turn around
happy to follow you
Thanks!
No one know about future, keep calm and get followers , EOS / steemit all the best
This post received a 4.1% upvote from @randowhale thanks to @bnt! For more information, click here!
Thank you for letting me know that. It is highly promising. Now is the time to have the discussion then. I sincerely hope they are up for it.
On the contrary, thank YOU!
lollx. good strategy
Most likely it will happen.
what does EOS do that any of the other thousand coins cant do? I'm highly skeptical of this coin but am looking for reasons to like it.
follow me on twitter for more #crypto news, comments, memes, questions, and shittalking... https://twitter.com/bitchimlying
As someone very new to all this , I'm always asking myself that!
When generally people agree on a coin that's reassuring, but since that rarely happens enough what's much better is a coin is quite divisive but I can understand basically why. That way I can have a better idea what chance I want to take with it, even if I'm not too sure what's going on!! hahah!
It makes it so that normal people can use blockchain without even knowing it.
Blockchain backend, familiar .com front end.
No downloading of an entire blockchain or a special browser. Anything a user prefers will do.
Thank you for sharing I just followed you and upvoting your post. I look 👀 forward to watching you become a great success here on Steemit🤓🙌🏾, re-Steem this post below on your page for a chance to win 100 Steem dollars , it will also help you earn the most out of steemit

i just followed you too.
EOS actually puts EVERY Ethereum Based "Plattform" or "Coin" in jeopardy of being cloned so to speak....
But EOS will not be around for a YEAR or so... I think.
Can they operate without a "COIN".. The coin will not be released for a 12 months..
Lots could happen. It will only benefit the entire community if they work Together in some way.. If that is even possible with the ETH and EOS..
Makes me want to dabble in coding..... I need 10 years back!! lol
Thank you for the very insightful post. This is very urgent and I would have to agree with you on WOrking it out asap before the Egg is hatched.
@bnt, tell us what you think about the Steemit killer > https://steemit.com/steemit/@blockrush/is-wildspark-the-steemit-killer-blockrush
Absolutely not. It doesn't make any sense at all. Should EOS buy-up a significant portion of Steem on all of EOSians behalf?
They are separate projects going their own way.
Besides the fact, EOS crowdsale is designed to run on for another year so there is no reason to buy any EOS right now for anyone.
Agreed! Steem isn't in the business of investing in ICOs....it's a blogging community. Makes absolutely no sense to speculate on what EOS may do a year or two from now.
Why are you upvoting your comment for $69 dollars may I ask? It certainly isn't worth that I fear.
I am using my SP to participate on Steemit in an effective manner. Pretty reductive answer on your part.
Should Steemit also buy stakes in Ethereum, Dfinity, Tezos, Qtum, and Lisk?
It's your SP, I thought generally that people were trying not to upvote themselves. My apologies.
No apologies needed, we're all in this together. HF19 is flawed but we're on a path to making Steem great.
Indeed. Thanks for your courtesy.
Great......i just followed you. Togetherness is really important in every community
If you use your stake to benefit yourself at the expense of your peers you will only be harming your own stake along with everybody elses.
Who's to say that I am not benefiting my peers by being active and onboarding new users and creating new categories? Or by my continually buying Steem and powering it up? I am one of the largest net buyers of Steem in its history and have been active and posted many articles, comments, and professional grade analyses. If you want more power on Steem, buy more Steem Power and put less of your money into EOS.
I think it is good to upvote your own comments...when I take the time to write something nice, I always give it a bit of an upvote.
After HF19 I've seen myself use smaller upvotes on comments, my full power vote is now worth $20!!! Which is wild, and really cool. I've had to stop and ask myself more often, how much is this comment actually worth? If I was up-voting on someone else's comment, what would I give them?
I think because he can :D
Meh, why go there?
I honestly wanted to know. I thought people were trying not to upvote their own comments and stuff. It's his SP, I'm over it. :)
Yeah and I can understand that as I myself don't vote on own comments but it just made it look like you were evading his discussion instead. :P
Ha! Sorry, just took me by surprise is all but he's right, we're in this together though we must take the approaches that make sense to us.
Several are upvoting themselves including me, I have looked over many people and places around here and have not seen if this was acceptable or not, to me it feels odd to upvote my own comments.
I think you may have missed the point a little. EOS is like an OS for blockchain apps. It can run hundreds, maybe thousands of steem/steemits within it and they would be able to interoperate along with additional performance.
I think you might be missing the point. Why should Steemit hype and buy another project?
Should Steemit also buy stakes in Ethereum, Dfinity, Tezos, Qtum, and Lisk? It can potentially run on any of them. And some of them even are live today!
All of those projects you mention could be toast and should consider doing the same as I'm suggesting for Steem if they believe that EOS has cracked the scalability limitations of single threaded performance. If EOS can act like an OS for a blockchain economy, it would be crazy for any project that could be replicated within EOS and benefit from advantages not to invest and plan to build or migrate within it.
You do know that EOS hasn't launched yet and claims are claims? A a year ago Dan said that everything would be run on Steem...
Exactly. All these claims about what EOS is and can do....actually, it can't do any of those things today. Also, I'm starting a time machine ICO...great time to invest in that space.
If you promise everything, people will keep believing just so long as you never actually launch a product. When you actually launch an over promised dream blockchain that was over funded, everyone will be disappointed by the onset of reality.
That's my biggest thing...it's easy to talk big, show us the chain!!!
Fair enough. I believe I've seen enough to be concerned. It took a couple of months to build and launch steem and Steemit, a year to get to this. Advantages are hard enough to come by.
That's my point wrt EOS. Claims are great, reality is hard. Bold claims require vetting and proof, not credulity.
This is why Steem is one of the most impressive blockchain projects because it is being used today by people and it works. It's not theoretical, it's not a pre-release project that is having an ICO designed to raise an insane amount of money (and be gamed by the ICO issuer itself (they can reinvest ICO proceeds into the ICO and manipulate the price up and down...sigh, never play a game designed by someone who is better at games than you are)), it's something which women and men are using today to connect on and write on and Steem on.
A year ago Dan didn't have a $100 million in VC funding, before he even issued the ICO. Today he does. And the ICO is just gravy on top.
Do you have a link to the $100mm in VC funding that Dan has for EOS?
plus the YEAR LONG crowdsale? wtf?
STEEM was never designed to be a smart contract blockchain
Dan literally said a year ago that Steem could run smart contracts and do everything that Ethereum does.
Steem is EOS little sister. EOS is being designed with both STEEM and Bitshares in mind. It's not just another project, it is the 3rd project after bitshares and steem created by @dan Larimer. People have confidence in EOS having seen what he has built before.
Steem is its own thing and is NO ONE's little sister. Stop thinking so small and stop drinking the kool-aid.
I've never had a kool-aid, how does it taste ?
It tastes like that ;)
^ This!!
I doubt that's an issue. Just because they would launch a platform with a better technology it doesn't mean they would be able to build a community.
Steem has already been running for a while and the community keeps growing. It's not an overnight thing.
Also, I do believe that this should more concern Ethereum holders rather than Steem users, because Ethereum is in direct competition with EOS.
Lastly, in my opinion the technology for Steem isn't that important. I haven't read about any limitations that Steem is facing from the technology side, but please correct me if I'm wrong, would like to learn more about that.
As far as we've come, it's really not been that long and if we hand over a competitive advantage....plus there's all the unforeseen developments that may put us further away over time, I think it's an unnecessary risk. What else are we doing with the massive dev fund?
Theoretically speaking it would be great if a exact copy of everything in Steemit could be recreated from a certain point in time within the boundaries of EOS.
I guess that would be the perfect situation for the people that have more to lose than for the new people in Steemit who may prefer a fresh start.
My opinion though is that if there is something to be protected, is not the position of Steemit in the market, but the people as a whole posting in Steemit (with people I mean the flow of information created by the users of Steemit).
Whether it is possible migrating to EOS is something that we have time to discuss, since we still have a year until EOS develops, even to buy tokens, and also, in 6 months we could have a bigger rule changer. So before using actual resources in possible futuristic situations, and being very positive to stay alert, I believe is better to hodl and see how the year develops.
Having said that, I don't see why someone knowledgeable couldn't prepare an approach for a possible migration.
BTW Ive liked your post @Benjojo, and the fact that I can see there are people trying to protect this environment.
Thank you for the comment. There certainly are accounts with more to lose than others. That is one of the reasons I'm doing what I can to give as many as possible an understanding of how encompassing the value within steem can be, regardless of the present distribution of steem and the few foibles. The steemchain and our building of connections across it is just something else. Marvellous. I'm just glad to raise a flag and begin the discussion.
Would love to follow u .....I m new here plz upvote me ....I will be thankfull to u ...plz plz
Please don't beg. it's embarrassing
hahahahaha.........allow him to beg
This is a bad strategy on Steemit. Good luck though.
Totally agree with you @eeks. Too much incertitudes to think about a link enter steemit and EOS at the moment.
I was looking into buying some EOS tokens however the ICO crowdsale was kind of different....Makes me wonder when time is right to buy in. Have read some mixed messages...Ethereum blockchain is only used for funding and EOS will have it's own blockchain...Tokens therefore may have a limited use...
You will be able to convert EOS Eth tokens to EOS EOS tokens.
Thanks...didn't know.
Good to know in so simple words
There are no promises made, I agree.
Plz upvote me ...such a good reputation u have
PLz contribute to the conversation... don't beg.
What about "Steemians" ??? I thought we were "Steemers" lets come to a consensus
LOL. It was "steemians" when I joined a year ago. It's ye new generation saying "steemers" grrr ;) lol
hmm, right answer \ EOS have their own business.
I disagree with you.
It's always good to support your points with full arguments. Your response begs the question "why." Why?
STEEM is not the same as shares in Steemit, Inc.
Steemit, Inc is a for-profit organization which is obligated to serve its shareholders (of which I am not one). Anything Steemit, Inc does is for its benefit and legally speaking, they cannot promise in any legally binding way to do anything for STEEM or risk Steem being interpreted as a security.
I think I understand what you mean. Can steemit.inc use the Steem in the Steemit account to invest in EOS? Could they then choose to sharedrop EOS on Steemit accounts or use the EOS to fund a migration?
It might make steem only stronger, for example if steem was to move to Eos, then steem could use eos for video hosting etc.
Its the best discussion I have ever came across, informative and productive.
Honestly there are so many of these startups i hardly feel any of them should be taken seriously unless they at least have some kind of pre alpha prototype. I feel steemit should focus on steemit and just be persistent about improving the platform. Do this and listen to the community, then steemit can only win.
I think it is important to understand that two of the best platforms in crypto, steem and bitshares were built with part of the same software tool set and code-base as EOS will be. steem and bitshares are powerful pieces of evidence of the ability to deliver.
Good point, to be fair I should probably investigate the EOS project more thoroughly before dismissing it as just another crowdsale.
Never dismiss anything dan is up to ;)
I watched this just now...
...Mind blown
Nice one!!
There are many other coins that can be used as a counter-Steemit or Steemit competitor. You can't stop them, only the good community and awareness can stop the competitors in this category of crypto. After all. Steemit is just getting started. Many Steemit apps incoming it will be great.
There is a great deal to be optimistic about, absolutely. I agree, competition is healthy and galvanising. If EOS and apps within it gain too great a competitive advantage, that could be a problem. As long as we think it through, i'm confident the right course of action will be taken. :)
Might Steemit survive as it is first to market ... I know this is not always the case, publicity is probably required and although I don't like all the advertising on FB, it would be one way to Steemit success
After reading the article on Coindesk accusing Dan of running a ponzi scheme, I think this sounds like a really bad idea.
These are two separate project, it could go whichever way it should and just let the best product in the market win. If people can build better social media platform on EOS, so be it. People will go there.
But we have the first mover advantage, we need to build this community fast and make it hard for new competitors to even think about beating us.
Seeing projects like eSteem & Steepshot makes me believe that it's getting easy to reach mainstream market now.
The lack of facts in that article speak for themselves. You can't base decisions on the misrepresentations of others. Looking at the technology framework that steemit and steem operate within is only sensible.....it would be like a bitcoin miner refusing to upgrade their machine. There is no reason not to remain competitive....most people wouldn't even know a change had been made. There is every reason to remain competitive and preserve this community.
Steem and EOS would be an amzing tag team for all of us!
Thank you for the help on minnowsupport!
No worries at all! ;)
I belive the competition is good for us - not bad. The best service will win, and as well as all the users.
So - go EOS (I will buy some). And Steem - do not get sloppy! )
I believe in competition too, however, if EOS delivers on it's potential, a rival to steem and steemit within that network may have a lot of advantages. Why give those advantages up?
Never give up! )
Indeed! :)
It would make sense for Steemit to grab a stake in EOS. EOS is Microsoft Windos and Steemit is Microsoft Word. It will a lot easier for someone to create a Steemit competitor on EOS so Steemit should get there first. Write now Steemit has an advantage because it shares some most of the tech EOS is built with so porting it over or having run parallel shouldn't be to difficult relative speaking.
You took all the words I had in my head and said it better :) I couldn't agree more. Planning to migrate is an absolute must. I hope Steemit.inc are on board with the idea.
Could someone explain this bit of the Terms and conditions for me...
(7.9. EOS Tokens Will Become Non-Transferable.
Buyer acknowledges and understands
that EOS Tokens will become non-transferrable within forty-eight (48) hours after the
end of the EOS Distribution Period.
At this time, Buyer will no longer be able to map
a public key to Buyer’s account and Buyer will not be able to transfer EOS Tokens on
the Ethereum blockchain.
Some cryptocurrency exchanges may on their own accord
enable EOS Tokens to continue trading, but the exchanges will be unable to accept new
deposits or authorise withdrawals of EOS Tokens.)
I took it to mean that the ERC20 contract token will stop being transferable. At some point the the EOS network will go live and after that the EOS distribution will map to the ERC20 token. That's what I thought, hopefully someone will correct me if I'm wrong.
time is of the essence, indeed
A very interesting idea @benjojo, investing in new potential competitors should definitely be considered!
To be fair, the first person I'm aware of to voice this idea was @pheonike in the bitshares forum. I had certainly already been worrying about the implications of EOS on steem and steemit....but he got there first :)
The crypto world is getting increasingly complex! And it is hard to be first on any idea!
Totally :)
I feel there is no reason for steem it to grab shares of EOS.
No worries, thanks :)
Total noob on how all this works but would this not undermine the growth here at steemit? Resteemit!
In a manner of speaking, Steemians would not necessarily know the difference. Steem and Steemit as we are would continue, only the backend (unseen stuff) would be based on EOS code, with all the potential advantages that go with it.
Thank You!
I made a post regarding your concerns about eos: Don't Worry Be Happy
EOS! What, me worry!
I like you attitude @ric, how do you manage to stay so calm?
Resteemed.
I think there is no reason for such concern. EOS can't be developed and released without proof of concept. For such a thing it is necessary to migrate to EOS platform at least existing one real blockchain with large number of users and transactions.
Guess what I think is the best candidate for it:
!!! STEEM !!!
They have a test network almost ready to go I think. We should examine the possibility of how a migration plan would work and yes, if one is necessary. I think it is necessary.
Ethereum network is the best place for EOS to place its fund. EOS has its most promising features is its scalability. Everyone would want to buy the token due to the crowdsale model. There are many other interesting feature in the EOS blockchain, only time would tell for them to prove this. As Steemit end user I hope the Steemit team would make a good decision that would benefit the communities. Never forget that community also are the key people who make the investors market a success.
Its a wise idea to discuss it in well advance.
Thank you.
i really enjoyed the chat and i have learn so many things through different opinions.
Very promising stuff here. I think this should be a the forefront of discussion in the Steemit Community. Thank you for such and insightful article!
Thank you very much. That's what I hoped for, a discussion about what might be best, to protect steem and Steemit.
That's right bro........happy to follow you
FYI,
There is another platform coming, called Reddcoin which has same objective as that of Steemit. It may pose competition to Steemit.
Can't wait to witness it...very excited..
Postnya very useful and hope you are lucky for future in this steemit :)
But do not forget the upvote on my blog too :D
#Thank's
I don't quite understand what EOS is. I'm confused but understand that it has something to do with Eth?
EOS.....i've heard it told....is like an operating system for blockchain-based applications, like steemit or the bitshares DEX or Ethereum......thousands of them. An Ethereum contract is being used only for the distribution of the ERC20 which will be mapped to a distribution of EOS once the network is live.
So, is it going to be something like Etherium on steroids?
Lol! I've definitely heard that mentioned somewhere!
I second this wholeheartedly. I have been talking for years about the huge opportunity that lies in allowing Bitshares and Steem to interoperate: Steem has got the users, and Bitshares has got the fiat onramps and the stable coins to cover all the major currencies and gold. Originally, I had in mind having one be the sidechain of the other, or using XCATs. But EOS appears to be the ultimate answer: both Steem and Bitshares can remain their own blockchain withing EOS, and yes become able to interoperate smoothly. In addition, they can at last be extended with all the stuff we have always wanted to have in Steem: a distributed video streaming network, a market place etc. EOS is the once in a lifetime opportunity for Bitshares, Steem and Dan Larimer to finally reunite under the same banner, and move on to steamroll (no pun intended) over the head of the entire cryptospace.
I got chills reading this :)
You see, this is what I was thinking too. There are apparently reasons that I don't understand...perhaps technical why that is deemed, at this point to not be the way to go.
Hi, may I ask you why you are downvoting all my posts ? Users enjoy and engage with the content I post and it's not like I pretend to be "ZeroHedge" I clearly say that I repost the best post of ZeroHedge.com.
Did you get the authorization from Zerohedge to republish their content?
No but I asked around and been told zerohedge isn't asking permission to republish others content, people are mostly grateful to get free press. About 90% of what's on Zerohedge is straight up taken elsewhere sometimes with wrong credit given. The website is infested with the most abusive ads you can find (yes it's their right). I'm spending 1h every day to regularly check and read though ZH about 25 articles to repost what I think is the best stuff and It's not like adapting the content for it to look good on steemit is easy either.
I don't quite understand what your vision of steem is, at a time where most are shamelessly upvoting their own "Hey!" comments I think you should leave some respect the work I do and not bury my content with -100%.
Many of my posts are improved or editorialized to put Steem into context, I'm also posting links to the post in the comments at Zerohedge.com to bring people to come read and participate on the comments on steemit. I'm not sure anymore to what extent I'm just wasting my time if you keep flagging at 100%. Is there something I can improve to make what I do pass your flag sensor ?
Hi @recursive,
Congratulations! You have been chosen to appear on another amazing edition of "Who to Follow Daily". Thank you for adding so much value to the Steemit community. Steem on!
Hello recursive .. I was just reading about the reportabuse tag post you created a year back... Does it work now ?? I have to report major abuse but don't know where to ... I would be really glad if you will show me the way.
Very good post benjojo :)
Thank you.
I did not know all that. Steemit still has a head start in either security or user. I don't think there will be a serious competitor. Anyway thanks for the information.
The only thing we have going for us is each other from the way I see it. It took only a couple of months to build and launch Steemit and steem using the Graphene toolset for building blockchains. EOS is going to present new advantages that a competitor would certainly exploit. EOS will be at least as secure as steem, if not more so.
That's nice!
Amazing idea. I have never thought of this. I think it will benefit us all to have a stake in the EOS to avoid regrets. Like you suggested, a mass staking done from steem blockchain may be helpful. This may consider staking a particular percentage of steemit users holding in steem power.
It would require steemit.inc to act on our behalf. They would likely need to use steemit account funds to purchase ETH and then contribute to the EOS distribution contract. Naturally if this was implemented, they would control all the EOS that came of it so we would all need to understand what exactly would happen to the funds afterwards.
It'd be a good thing for EOS. To have information move so quickly if steemit decides to go with it. Steemit is still very young though, so maybe what's the worst that could happen? I'm just saying. Cheers!
#follow4follow
In a world where networks are being made almost redundant overnight, when all your hard work to network, contribute, build and belong can be jeopardised very easily, it helps to hedge your bets. We would be foolish not to have a migration plan and the means of funding it worked out in advance. Fortune favors the prepared! :)
But this whole game is about risks, I mean EOS seems to be the talk nowadays. Can't wait for mainstream media to get a hold of it. Then the full profit is lost.
Good thoughts, I intend on participating in the EOS ICO at some point but I really do not know when (or even how for that matter). Perhaps I'll wait until STEEMFest in Portugal... Might be a good window in early November and will give time to research and analyze
Individually we must all gather what information we can and make investment decisions for ourselves. But if at least some of the steemit account funds are regarded as existing for the purpose of protecting steemit, steem and steemians, then this might be a very good way to do something significant.
All of what you posted is way over my pay rate, but I sort of understand. Why am I stressed out now my friend? @benjojo, Steem On my friend.
I'm sorry for making you stressed bud! There really is no need to be. Everything is going very well for steemit and steem....better than anyone expected and it is evolving fast into something very special. All I'm saying is that new technology presents a risk because if there are advantages to running a decentralised social media economy based on social media application within EOS, then we might be up against it in short order if a competitor made moves ahead of us. I'm trying to offer an idea for how we might prepare and protect everything we've so far accomplished. Competition itself would be fine and if a competitor offered something to a Steemian that steem couldn't then the best of luck to them, it's healthy. But there's no need to make it easy and throw away our current advantage. Not when we are sitting on a 134 million warchest! :)
Extremely interesting idea you have here @benjojo.... I need to look into EOS a bit more myself, but it seems to be everywhere!!
Can users purchase EOS tokens with their steem? or would it have to be converted to ETH and then purchased ?
You need ETH in order to take part in the ETH contract distribution. It will be everywhere and nowhere in the future! :)
Your point is valid. We should have stake in EOS, but not to deny what is rightful.
What I feel is eventually steemit will get replaced with something better and we should participate in EOS (trade, learn to code, be in forums) to ensure that when the time comes, we transition in rather than break out.
I hope I am sounding sane when I say this... steemit is still in beta mode!
Steemit's value is in it's utility and the people it has attracted. It's utility can be challenged any time now with all the open-source software available. I still think it would be very difficult. It is the Steemians that are more precious and the connections and value we have created together. I would hope we can preserve that whilst migrating into EOS if that makes sense.
hey bro i wonder if they werent planning to port bitshares and steemit over?
otherwise this literally is my number one concern my biggest bets are steemit and bitshares and i honestly dont believe anything is close to contending until eos
I have been following Dan's projects for a long time. I hope what they have accomplished for all of us can be preserved as EOS lands. We've all learned to trust Dan and his team's technology and rightly so. It would be a shame if something he produced for the best of reasons ended up damaging the people that have gathered around the ones that came before. I am hopeful that this can and will be avoided.
Good point, so what if EOS is better, people still use Facebook and Steemit is better on some points. The real question is what happens to the data when you abandon a platform?
EOS is like an operating system for blockchain based applications, like steemit and bitshares and ethereum. EOS won't replace steemit, something else launched within it might because it may have advantages over steem.
I'm slowly starting to get it ;)
I really wouldn't like to be Facebook right now :)
Why not?
Just because it cannot possibly compete with what is here already, let alone what is coming. There is nothing they can even do to pivot that I can see. In actual fact, that's not nice and I hope it doesn't happen too fast, but I feel they have taken advantage of people so it is difficult to feel too bad.
Sure but I think there won't be a mass exodus, beyond a certain point people will stick until it gets really ugly and only leave when there is a good alternative. Steemit is definitely not an alternative to Facebook, no friends, no messages.
I'm not so familiar with Reddit but isn't it supposed to be like Reddit?
Quite right, this kind of thing doesn't happen overnight, especially when you have over a billion users ;)
Yeah, mark zuck... sold some shares just few days ago I heard somewhere...
EOS will be a good addition to Steemit. Thanks for sharing.
My pleasure.
Actually, it's not a problem at all. If EOS is pretty successful, steem could launch itself on EOS.
It's like this:
I built an app with some homegrown tools. Then webpack and react works pretty well. So, I changed my app to use them.
What matter is the steem community and what it does. If someone could do it better than steem, that's also good thing.
It's like we've twitter, facebook and many other social networks.
It's only not a problem if we recognise the issue, work out if it is one and plan! :) Things move very quickly in this space. I don't believe we can afford to rest on our present advantage. I think we should drive it home.
I'm glad this is being talked about sooner than later. The thing is, Steemit already has a great brand behind it and thousands of people marketing it, so it's very well known. With that said, it's still good to have a backup plan in case anything else does come up. But I believe if Steemit gets a hold of this technology, there will be no competition. But either way, Steemit has already made a strong disturbance in the market and big eyes are already looking to make it the main platform of social media. Great post!
Thank you, i appreciate what you are saying. I would keep everything as is and continuing the development of steem and steemit.....just inside EOS. To everyone else there would be very little difference, only eventually, greater performance, scope and interoperability.
i'm not technically savvy enough to thoroughly understand nor explain the ins and outs of eos but i can see the potential of it vs ethereum. if i had any resources to use i'd be all in on eos. i'd hope the steemit team has made contingency plans for when eos goes on-line.
Absolutely. Please don't quote me or Dan, but he said something along the lines of.....EOS will be able to run the whole of Ethereum in a single contract. EOS really could be a game changer among game changers.
Thank you for posting @benjojo.
Appreciate the query.....it is an interesting senario and one would hope Steemit Inc would be ahead of it.
Steemit will have competitors no doubt.
All the best to you and yours. Cheers.
Thank you bleujay, it's lovely to hear from you. I hope they are on it and up for it. We may never have this advantage again.
Thank you for your reply benjojo.
Yes.....advantage being the key word.....in the crypto space...things move fast..
Again thank you for writing on these matters. As some from the States have indicated, they are not allowed to invest in EOS....perhaps it should be a consideration of Steemit to do as you have suggested if they are able.
Cheers.
Now that is a truly brilliant point bleujay. You know I think it's worth a post on it's own. I hope you will write one asap!
Perhaps a principle will come to mind.....however for the writing......bleujay will leave it to you.
This might be a silly question, but here it goes ... Why did Dan chose Ethereum for his ICO? Why not chose Steem? That would've created a big demand for Steem and the price would've increased right?
Thank you for posing the query.
As bleujay understands it.....Ethereum is the only blockchain with test net service.
It's certainly not a silly question. As I understand it, the decision was largely based on legal and political considerations. It is imperative that the devs are protected from attack....I think we can all agree on that. I'm not sure what the political influences were. As it happens, despite the frustrating compromises, they seem to be accomplishing the most important goals and that is a very broad awareness and distribution.
The idea is very thought provoking. What if we create a platform for co-investing?
No need. Most of the tech that built EOS was used to build steem. We have a serious advantage there.
Being first is always good!
Can't underestimate it! :)
good post. it's very interesting.
Thank you.
