Recovered my account from a hacker!..

in #steemit6 years ago (edited)

Hi there!

So.. What happened?

I would like to thank @quarantine @mirrors and @plentyofphish for their help. Apparently I had clicked on a malicious link and somehow that was enough for a hacker to retrieve my password. They stole my SBD and I have so far recovered my account.

So here is what I did and what you should never do! Just because an app is being hosted on steemit does not mean the app is safe! Never use your password to log into any 3rd party app or site! Sure its common sense and even for me but I haven't been on in a while and seeing the "apps built on steemit" section right on my account I assumed it was safe!

Hello @atomica!

I noticed you have posted many times since you began your journey on Steemit. That is great! We love active partipants.

I do want to point out that the Introduceyourself tag is meant to be used once only to introduce yourself to the Steemit community. You have now posted 5 times using the introduceyourself tag. Please see this link for more information on Tag Spam?

Please take this into consideration and help build a great platform!

I didn't know that. I thought it was a good way to get in touch with newcomers so they can learn from my mistake. It wont happen again.

Congrats on your account recovery. Upvote and follow done. Keep it up.

Thank you for reading! Following you back.

Thanks a lot.

No it isn't @abit

How do I Amend? what does that mean??

I know the Phisher transfered funds.. can I get them back? If so ..how?

Permission keys? Look out for them? what does that mean? I already changed my password.. I have to change multiple password(s)?

If you say its not @bit I will trust you more than the other guy who swears and makes accusations! @mirrors! I will consider editing my post..

Then your account should be safe.

One question , where did you pick up the Link that infected you?
I can't find it .

No. you can't get your fund back.

Can you please answer my questions?

I have no idea what link you are referring to. I never gave away my password. I did find something unusual.. I notice on your page a bunch of links that look like a link I clicked on..

Could this be it?

Welcome to Steem, @atomica!

I am a bot coded by the SteemPlus team to help you make the best of your experience on the Steem Blockchain!
SteemPlus is a Chrome, Opera and Firefox extension that adds tons of features on Steemit.
It helps you see the real value of your account, who mentionned you, the value of the votes received, a filtered and sorted feed and much more! All of this in a fast and secure way.
To see why 3174 Steemians use SteemPlus, install our extension, read the documentation or the latest release : Steemplus 2.18.

I will give you my opinion unabashed: You are here making very serious accusations, you do well to go slow, unless you are also having your own motives, which would otherwise cause me to question your 'account being hacked' occurrence....

Your conversation history with @abit looks sketchy at best, and cannot, should not be sufficient reason to publicly call him out with such strong accusations.

If he down-voted your introduce post, he must have had reason. i have not looked t it, but there is many reasons for down-voting.

You are obviously putting in a lot of effort to 'defame' this @abit guy (by the way i have only just heard of him from you now) and having only just joined in May, you look well too conversant with the platform already!!!! And then, it also beats my understanding why and how someone of his Status should have anything personal against you deserving of the much effort you are putting into this whole fiasco....This is apparent from how much you have tried to 'DIG OUT"!

To be honest with you, i think there is more to your story, and you better be sure the "HACK" actually happened! And is not some self-staged move!

Because nobody is going to believe the nonsense that @abit would go to any such length to hack your account

  1. Just to steal 5SBD
  2. To post phishing links and defame an account of Reputation 38 (by the time it started)
  3. And then, if he went to such length, would he also leave it s easy for you to reclaim it?

Tell me, what would be his motive for any of this time wasting errand? Maybe there is something i am missing.

Otherwise until then, i suggest you stop speaking ill of @abit, and focus on creating content.

Now you are accusing me of hacking my own account? You are ridiculous. I dont even know how to do it but you on the the other hand.. hmmm

I am creating content, I am sharing my experience. This is how it happened and for someone like him or YOU for that matter, i would probably take a few seconds to hack someone. I only work in front end development, I code HTML and make graphics! I am not a programmer like you guys. So before you go on accusing me without ANY facts I suggest you stop trolling my account. I am taking back my comments from earlier. I do not respect you, you have done nothing to help me all you did was associate my name to being a scammer when you know damn well it wasn't me!

Your comments here are VERY suspicious!

I am not making any accusations. On the contrary i am asking you to STOP MAKING ACCUSATIONS! That is all i am saying. Because they are unfounded. Unless you have evidence to back them up. Personally i have no interest in this DRAMA.

But it dumbfounds me to think a 'witness' has time to 'hack' a plankton's account, if that is even possible. Do you know what it takes to hack an account? I am no programmer by the way, at least you know how to code HTML! i dont!. But what i know is that, looking at your account scenario, the only plausible likelihood is that you were lured and entered your steemit account credentials on a phishing site (like the one that was being posted from your account a short while ago), and that way, the phisher (whoever it was stole your account).

For you to associate it with @abit with it, is to call him a scammer, and to associate him with all the other scamming accounts. Do you know how big an accusation that is? Especially without any admissible evidence.

Overall, stop name calling. Cool down and let bygones be bygones. we'll repair your reputation if you like, but stop making baseless accusations. Like i said, i don't even know @bit, but i am human, and know what it means to have my name soiled!

By the way, i made the alarm, and rightly so, because whether real or not real, your account was propagating a phishing link and many others would have easily lost their accounts due to that.

Ok I will delete the post about @bit. I thought it was him because it happened right after I posted the comments. I posted my evidence.. but I just found the link I clicked.. I think I found the source. For the record. I did not do this! Please help me remove the comments calling me a scammer?

A witness should be accountable and transparent! Asking me to keep quiet about something like this is VERY sketchy! You should really control your temper before commenting it reveals your true nature! I am now convinced you are part of the problem and also one of the scammers here! So relevant content would be another post.. this time about you!

Hahahahh.........you know what? You need to join Comedy, You are good. And now i think your account hacking story needs some verification....because then, if you stage managed it, one fact remains, the phishing link was real!

Honestly you are acing weird mate, very weird! Two possibilities,

  1. One, you are genuinely angry. Anybody becomes angry when he/she loses an account.
  2. Two, this is only part of a stage managed drama.

I give you my word. If you genuinely lost your account, i empathize with you.
But if you are stage managing this whole thing, hahahahah...then you are actually to be contended with, because truth to say, that phishing link is real, and the move points to a wider conspiracy.

Above everything, i give you my sympathies if you genuinely lost the account, and can understand your anger.....I am not asking you to keep quiet, speak if there is something genuine, and put out evidence rather than baseless accusations.

Bro I already edited the post about @bit. I changed it to a thank you. We seem to have some lag in our convo and You didn't notice it yet. So I will ignore this post and just say thank you for your concern :)

I still dont know how it happened.. I would like to assist in finding out how it happened so it doesnt happen again. Also so you guys can expose the real hacker.

You said you can help me fix my reputation now? Can you? I dont want to argue anymore. I am not a hacker! I have no idea how to hack anything. I hacked a payphone once 10 years ago.. that was it!!

My flags somehow contributing to bringing your reputation down. But it was necessary to grey out the phishing link that the hacker was propagating. So i am going to look through your comments now, and see if you have edited and removed that link. If so, i will remove my flags, and it may heal your reputation a bit.

Thanks

"somehow" lol and I am the comedian? ..still waiting.. please remove the flags and help me regain my reputation as you said you would..

Hey. You are lucky. Be careful next time! :)

Be careful? did you read my post! There is no way to prevent it from happening that is the point! Nobody seems to know how it happens and now Ive come up with my own theory and im being accused of hacking my own account. Ridiculous.

Have you been careful when working with Steemit? :)

It appears that the only way to be careful is not to resteem or click any links.. so then we have to ask ourselves.. what is the point of coming here..

You can resteem. But be careful with any links, which started with "http://". That's not secure connection. If you see, that you are on the website with http, don't paste your keys and back to steem :)

No I clicked a link inside of steemit. It was a link posted by another person on steemit.. I would never post my password in another site. Thank you for the tips though I appreciate it..

Users can post everything they want. If you see that someone posted link to phishing site, flag this content and write comment about it

Scary. That is why I use Ubuntu.

Unfortunately this has nothing to do with your OS. This is an issue with clicking certain links. It appears I clicked a link that brought be to a url outside of steemit. I logged into a 3rd party steemit app.

I click on those things and I do not get hacked.

Go to "apps built on steemit" it will link you to a 3rd party site. Then enter your password and log in.. it has nothing to do with your OS! (DONT DO IT) Im just trying to help you understand.

Right, I know that.
