Over the last few years I’ve tried to choose a platform in order to post content online, however it always ended up the same way. I posted two or three posts but quickly lost interest due to the lack of incentive to keep posting, it wasn’t until I came across Steemit that I quickly realised this platform appealed to me a lot more than a lot of the more traditional platforms such as Youtube, Facebook, Medium or hosting my own blog. There’s a number of reasons why but I’ll begin with the first and foremost.
Incentive
Steemit incentivises me to produce quality content through the promise of readers upvoting and finding my posts interesting, thereby providing a monetary and reputational award based upon the quality and interest they have had whilst reading my content. This is a major positive for the platform and what initially attracted me towards the steemit platform above overs due to the incentive to create.
Removes the pressure for creatives to advertise.
The incentive to upvote and recieve steem power and steem provides another major benefit, content isn’t solely reliant on external advertising in order to monetise it’s creation. One of the major things that held me back from creating whether it be video’s on youtube, blog posts on Medium or Facebook was the fact that for most, the only way to monetise your content is to create bland, very pedestrian content which doesn’t push the barrier for the sake of appeasing whatever advertiser chooses to place their advertisement on your content.
This creates two problems, creatives no longer can create content which pushes the barrier and as the reader you no longer know whether content you are reading is genuine or pushing an alternative agenda. An example of this is review videos on Youtube which purposely provide positive reviews to items in order to push for purchases on affiliate networks such as Amazon. This is also further seen with the recent demonetisation of controversial content on Youtube.
Content remains more honest
The incentive to post and the removal of pressure to advertise brings me to my last point. The outcome of these two points allows posters on steemit to create honest, appealing content.
The whole purpose of steemit is to change how creative content is shared online and I think steemit have nailed it. The years to come will inevitably tell you whether I’m right, but this marks my first post on steemit of many to come and I can safely say I’m supportive of participating in a content driven network of creatives whom are providing insight and value through their creative content and commentary.
A bit about me.
A little about me to introduce myself. I’m a software developer and cryptocurrency enthusiast from Sydney, Australia. I have a passion for emerging tech and am interested in startups and technology. Thanks for reading!

Welcome to Steem @ardy I have sent you a tip
Welcome to Steemit, @ardy. We are glad to have you here! Hang in there and don't give up. Substantial rewards can be very difficult to earn. Don't let the trending page fool you. Just be yourself and be persistent.
Thanks @countryinspired, it's easy to see that a lot of posts are doing well but once I viewed the 'new posts' category within each category I noticed that there is a significant amount of competition to receiving rewards. I think it's a great thing only those who consistently create quality content will in the end be noticed but it is definitely daunting for me as a new user.
I'm sure it is daunting. I remember my early days not so long ago.
Welcome to Steemit @ardy :)

You're definitely right, no other platform gives as much power to it's content creators.
i agree Ardy, Youtube let me down and Facebook shows me the least important people in my feeds. I want to find a home here and make great friends. I followed you and look forward to seeing your posts too.
Thanks @daydreams4rock, it's empowering to see so many people getting so involved on steemit compared to other platforms.
