Yea, if you up-vote posts that have already an high payout your vote can bring many extra dollars. But still I for my part try only to up-vote posts that i really really like or posts that are good and relative new. The hole idea is to find new good posts and make them more visible through up-voting them. If others happen to follow your vote, you will get cu-ration rewards for helping good content to be visible and therefore helping steem to evolve.

indeed. thats true. but i know try to vote 50/50.
great posts with already high numbers get my vote. and the rest goes to the NEW section. i balance it out now.
the best advertisement steem could get is a high reward. my first 5000 usd payout brough steem around 30 new users... as i told all my friend about it!
