RE: Self-Sufficient Steemit Media Centre ~ Solar Powered, Green House and 10,000 Litres Of Water

what type of internet access is it (ie. DSL, cable, etc)? and how are you finding the quality vs cost? It seems like that's really the last big impediment to living that sort of "self-sufficient" lifestyle. I've really been looking forward to those low-orbit satnets, which should give reasonably priced high-speed internet from the middle of nowhere, to the middle of the ocean on a boat.

Now that's gonna be a real game changer! :)

Sort:

We have line of site on a netsys tower. SO its extremely fast 8mpbs up and down is 170$ USD a month We are at 2mpbs nd its more than enough for streaming videos and somewhat decent live videos.

ah ok so you're actually really lucky you're in a position to have line of site then, though still pretty pricey for 8mbps these days. perhaps just a few more years, look forward to seeing that drop 50% for 50mbps! lol

yeah for us its no problem the price is part of the business, and business always costs money, we dont use the internet for "fun" or "lesisure" much, we see it as a business expense!

very true, I had a $300/month highly reliable SDSL 1.5 mbps (T1-speed) as a backup line for years!

on another note, actually amazing somehow even your internet's still okay - so that reliability may certainly be worth the price. wasn't expecting you guys already to be back online! :)

As soon as the power came back online, so did all the basic services. We had emergency calls and landlines only. Back to 2mbps as soon as the power came back. although the house still had AC as I was enjoying my solar haha
