Steemit's FIRST ever Hair Tutorial ! 3 Fishtail Braid Hairstyles

in #steemit8 years ago

Hi Steemers and welcome to Steemit’s very first Hair Tutorial!

I have found nothing like this on Steemit yet and am proud to be the first one!
First of all, thanks to everyone for welcoming me in such a warm way. As you might have noticed about me, I have very long hair. Like, really long. Past my waist, almost down to my hips!

So naturally, I have to get it out of my face sometimes and do something with it.

I’ve taught myself how to braid in many different ways, and today I'll be showing you guys how to do a basic Fishtail braid, and 3 fun variations of it!

Nr. 1 - Basic Side Fishtail Braid

First, I will teach you guys the basic technique of a Fishtail Braid.

First, start off by dividing your hair into 2 equal parts.

Now, all you need to do is divide a small piece of hair from the outer side of strand A, cross it over, and combine it with strand B.

And that’s basically it! So easy right? Okay, so next of course you take a small piece from the outside of strand B, cross it over, and combine it again with strand A.

You can also watch this Gif Video of me showing the braiding technique slowly

And now you continue this process all the way down!

It might look hard at first, but trust me, this technique is really easy. Just try to braid tightly when making your way down.

A few Tips:

- The smaller the pieces, the longer it will take, but the more “fishtail-y” it will look. The larger the pieces, the more it will end up looking like a regular 3-strand braid.
- If you want a more messy look, try tugging at the edges when you’re finished, and pulling out the loops of hair gently.
- If you have layers, some hairs will be sticking out at the end, making it look more messy automatically. So keep that in mind!

So there we have it: Our basic side fishtail braid!

Next, we will create 2 fun variations with our basic fishtail technique.

Nr 2 - Fishtail Tieback

Hairstyle Nr. 2 is a Fishtail Tieback.

Start off by taking a piece of hair that frames your face, and divide that again into 2 strands.

Then, we will start fishtail braiding again:

Take a piece of hair from the outside of the left strand, cross it over, and combine it with the right strand.

Take a piece of hair from the outside of the right strand, cross it over, and combine it with the left strand.

You don't have to braid all the way to the end - try pulling your braid back, to the back of your head. It only needs to be braided until it reaches the back of your head, there it will meet the braid from the other side!

Once you're done, tie your mini braid with an elastic and repeat the same steps on the other side (Take a piece that frames your face, split it in 2, fishtail braid it until halfway).

Watch me do it here.

Then you simply pull back both braids and tie them at the back of your head.

And there you have it: The Fishtail Tieback!

Nr 3 - The Fishtail Accent Braid

This one is similar to the tieback, but instead of braiding the sides, this time we will pull our hair back and THEN braid down! Take a look!

You start by separating two strands of your hair that frame your face, and pull them to the back of your head.

And then, you start fishtail braiding down! I know your arms will get tired after a while, but stay strong ;)

And here is the finished result: Your Fishtail Accent Braid

So, which one of these 3 Hairstyles did you like the most - 1, 2 or 3? Comment below!
