Question and Answers: Why Steemit doesn't have a view counter?

I am constantly being asked questions by people who are investigating Steemit for their own personal use. One of the most frequent questions I receive is:

Why is there no view counter for blog?

I think the main reason Steemit doesn't have a view counter is because they want to make the votes the main reward of the platform.

I could be wrong.

Steemit is an ever evolving platform and I applaud the developers for their constant attention to the checks and balances of the system.

My main recommendation would be to add a view counter.

The reason being is that this is an excellent way to gauge content better. Some articles may have a lot of attention inside of Steemit, some may have a lot of attention outside of Steemit.

View counts show the reach that the blog has attained. I wonder if outside views can somehow be integrated into the system not as a monetary reward, but as a new category next to trending, hot, active etc.

Do you think that Steemit should have a view counter for articles?

EDIT: CRYPTOS commented below that he found a temporary work around on this. You can find out more by visiting his blog at

Yes, it should have a Blog post view counter.

I have just posted a workaround solution, here: https://steemit.com/post-views/@cryptos/how-to-know-how-many-people-see-your-post-on-steemit

It is not working perfect as apparently stteemit uses some image caching, but you can still monitor actual views as they seem to still be counted.

EXCELLENT! Thank you so much for this information!

I think the view counter is neglected because the opinion of the piece might not be a positive one and it could affect the algorithm, as far as the ratio of reads to actual upvotes, and have a negative impact on the poster's reputation.

Oh I agree... although i have seen some articles get 100s of likes on FB and maybe a dozen upvotes. For example... one of my articles had been clicked from facebook and read 300 times and had 21 upvotes. I doubt that many who read it were in steemit but I would much rather not to have to use facebook insights to gauge readership. I want to be steemit self efficient :-)

I like that idea.

That way I know if my content was view by many and not upvoted, then bad content.

Or not seen and needs better promotion across other social media platforms.

Precisely. Anything that can be used for us to help market our ideas should be available.

I heard about https://steemstats.com

Steemstats has many nice features, but does not help you with post views in any way.
