That's one of my posts that I truly believed would have ended in more earnings.
- 159 Upvotes and 103 Comments.
That's also what I'm trying to do with each of my posts. I want to share things with others they can relate with, things they can use and content they'll get ideas from.. I try to encourage my readers to discuss things.
I answer all of my replies and I'm doing whatever I can to make myself an "established" steemit member.
- I provide content.
- I advertise and bring new users to steemit.
- I answer all of my replies.
- I try to be of help.
That's just 4 quick sentences about me & what I'm doing here. Or what I'm trying to do..
TODAYS TOPIC IS ...
Topics that didn't end up as good as we thought, in terms of reward.
Link to your own or other peoples content, and let's discuss WHY these didn't end up great.
You can find my previous post here:
Miniature golf & hole in ones = Winning. Upvotes from Whales = Steemit Success! - I've been there & done that.

The problem is that you're writing for money. With that mindset, you'll probably always fail. Stop caring about what other people think of your posts and just focus on having fun. That's what social media is usually for, after all.
Thank you for your reply, but that's actually not the case in this specific scenario. I've shared my thoughts, ideas, experience and knowledge for free, on various internet forums, on facebook, twitter and all that for several years. I do the same on steemit too. And I do things for fun, but I would rather entertain my readers with something of value, instead of sharing crappy content that no one is interested in. :)
However, steemit is slightly different as you can make money by doing just that. You do exactly what you've done forever on all the others platforms but you'll have a chance to make money here.
I could probably have used another term instead of reward, or at least explained that part more in detail..
There's different types of rewards. Rewards could be comments, upvotes or earnings.
In my case, with the post I mentioned above, I'm talking about the money indeed. As I've already been rewarded with more than 100 upvotes & comments. That being said, my goal with this post, or what I hope for, is to make this a big one, so people can get some insights, tips and suggestions. I want to contribute and I wish that others feel the same way.. Knowledge is power.
Yes writing for money does get you discouraged. But at the same time it is disheartening to see someone copy and paste a news article with 5 sentences do better than a piece you spent a day on. It's not that you are writing just for money, but there should be an easier way to find users content that really try https://steemit.com/steemit/@steemrollin/a-great-reputation-system-that-s-what-we-need makes a wonderful suggestion. A minnow with 5 stars or whatever system based on comments and posts should be able to be more visible than someone posting random nonsense
That sort of system would probably work perfect on steemit. Hopefully they'll implement something like this in the nearest future. That, along with some changes in the filters would be perfect!
Yeah at least some of the changes that need to be addressed are receiving some notice. Some sort of weekly video from the devs to let us know what is coming would be awesome or for them to tell us a topic they are thinking about changing and let people come up with some ideas to change it in a way that may not have been thought of before
That would be awesome. I made a post 5 days ago about some features I would love.
You can find it here:
Steemit : Feature Suggestions, Alert Notifications & Popular Posts.
It's nothing major but I would have loved to get some sort of response from the devs, from @ned or @dantheman, that would have been great!
I do understand that these people can't watch every single thread being made, and definitely not upvote and comment everything they read. That just wouldn't work. But something like features should be monitored and commented. Well, that's my opinion at least. That way, the creator of the post (me in this scenario) and the readers would have got some sort of update about it at least.
And from what I've heard, people are trying to monitor everything at all times, but that seems a bit too much actually. I can understand how that might have worked with a couple of hundred members but with more than 40,000, which we have right now.. It's just impossible..
Just imagine when we reach 1 million users..
Great idea, helping each other improve our exposure! I have a bunch of posts I put effort into but were seen by nearly no-one. I'd love any feedback on some of them, whether I'm just a bad writer, or it's a wrong place wrong time sort of situation:
Hey @geoffrey, I'm glad you liked this post! :)
I'll be honest with you. I didn't read all of these, but I did check them all and to me, it looks good. You're using subtitles, decent titles, photos and your writing isn't bad at all. At least not in my opinion.
Like @robsteady said above:
"The worst part about Steemit right now is that I don't know if my posts just aren't good, or if they get lost in the stream. With over 40,000 users and no easy way to sort things by categories I'd imagine it's really easy for things to get overlooked. I'd love to post a link to my latest post that has some photos and something of a story about my desire for a simpler life just to see if it was simply overlooked or if people feel it just isn't worth upvoting."
And I personally think this is the reason for your posts not going "big": "they get lost in the stream."
That's probably ( At least I hope so ) the reason for my own posts not going big either.. I did have some success a few days back but I haven't had any "major luck" since then.. And hopefully, it's due to that and not bad content.
Hopefully things will be easier in the near future when some changes are made.. Especially with the "filters", so one can use the filters to find good "active" content rather than all of those trending and popular posts that's already been paid.
Thanks! This is encouraging, I'll stick with writing semi-daily and hope I get noticed eventually.
You should definitely continue. Sooner or later, someone will find you! :)
The most disappointing thing is when your idea is somehow buried down and after some time someone comes up with that same idea and literally eats your lunch.
I introduced Humans of Steemit with this post
https://steemit.com/steemit/@samether/humans-of-steemit
But as most posts it got no where. In fact I was trying to get out some other buried posts with it.
Today someone came up with https://steemit.com/humansofsteemit/@anwenbaumeister/introducing-humans-of-steemit-my-new-project-to-bring-personal-stories-to-you-and-to-share-steemit-with-the-rest-of-the-world
and was trending.
It is a very unforgiving place :)
Yeah I feel you on that. It's also hard to see something you made get popular by someone else. I also dislike how short a timeframe there is for payout. I feel I don't have time to credit all the people and often find a great post with little reward and only able to give a few pennies
The worst part about Steemit right now is that I don't know if my posts just aren't good, or if they get lost in the stream. With over 40,000 users and no easy way to sort things by categories I'd imagine it's really easy for things to get overlooked. I appreciate any feedback, especially negative. At least I'd have a better idea why I don't seem to have any feedback on the actual post.
Hi @robsteady
I don't think there is something specifically "wrong" about your post that caused it to do poorly, and when I looked at it I gave it a vote because it seems like the kind of original content that Steemit desperately needs more of.
However, the current rewards climate on Steemit is heavily weighted toward posts that are about promoting Steem and Steemit, and the power users with enough voting weight to make posts start trending aren't spending a lot of time trawling through secondary content (which I'm defining as any content posted by someone who is not already an influential user) looking for hidden gems.
None of my posts have done well in the financial sense, but I don't take it personally and it hasn't caused me to judge them as being poor content. If you believe your content has value and keep posting, at some point, someone with voting weight will notice, and then more users will pile on. If you look through the posting history of people who have created popular content, you'll see that there aren't many "one-hit-wonders" there. Once a user creates a popular post, all their future posts tend to do much better than average. It's getting over that initial hump that can be extremely difficult.
That may not be the answer you're looking for, but it's what I think is currently true. Or maybe I'm just a poor judge of quality, including the quality of my own work. I guess you'll have to be the judge.
Nah, I totally get what you're saying. I have faith that things will balance out eventually, it just gets me frustrated because I'm not a very patient person anyway so despite my efforts at trying to help other people here, it just feels like it's not effective enough. I'm trying to just keep on keepin' on, but it gets tiring to even go through the stream and look for things I'm interested in let alone expecting any of my content to get to the right audience. I really believe the stream/following by category will be one of the most important things to straighten out as time goes on.
One thing I will say is that while large files look good, it kills me on mobile browsing becoming glitchy on phone/tablet. I might suggest taking a screen shot of the original pic and cropping it to size and thus greatly reducing the size. I myself wonder about length. People aren't going to watch half hour videos or read 20 pages, but what do you see as a good benchmark for optimal length(obviously depending on content it can be flexible)
Amazing!! - This is EXACTLY what I wanted with this post! Thank you @robsteady for sharing and thank you @sndphoenix for this outstanding reply!
With suggestions, feedback and by being friendly, we can come a long way! - This totally made my day. Thank you :)
No problem. I spend most of my time on the site reading through non-trending posts and making comments. I don't have any voting power, so at the moment there's very little else I can do to contribute. However, I think there is long term value in the entire concept of this platform, and it just needs time to develop to the point where non-mainstream (i.e. non-Steem-based) content gets noticed.
My post here for example:
https://steemit.com/art/@sndphoenix/e01-of-cgs-presents-high-school-heroes-introducing-jen-rogers
Got a total of 4 votes and one comment, and that comment was from someone that came to look at my post only because I welcomed her to the site on introduceyourself. However, I don't think the post was fundamentally valueless. If you disagree, feel free to let me know of course. I have thick skin!
I think you're a talented writer. Even though I haven't enough Steem Power to make a huge impact, I still upvoted your post. It's just like "doe" said in the comment on that post: "That's the best part. It's telling, it's interesting, and I'm intrigued!".
I feel sorry for some people who spends hours on their posts and gets nothing in return. And no, I'm not talking about money alone here. I talk about nice comments & feedbacks too.
However, I know it's impossible for everyone to go big or to build a great reputation on steemit in these early days.. But I know it will become possible, for everyone. Hopefully posts like that won't fly "under the radar" and just simply disappear among all the other posts further on, when steemit has made some future changes. I hope steemit will evolve and hopefully it will be easier to find quality content using the filters in the nearest future.
I like that outlook and we should get together and support and critique each other's work. Applaud the good and suggest future changes to the bad. We shouldn't simply upvote ppl just because we like them, but because the content is good. If someone gets lazy and starts posting average content that once was a very interesting poster, they should be called out.
This is so true! - Upvote the content we think is good. That's essential. If you have to upvote your friends posts just because you're friends, do that after you've upvoted every other post you feel like upvoting. That way, the friends wouldn't get as much money rewards at least.
Yes if the content doesn't improve overall, it will sink to the level of any other site where people can post whatever they like and not worry about content. That hurts everyone. A lot of changes need to be made and looked at, but I keep telling myself it's only in beta and there are great minds behind it
It sure is great minds "behind the scenes" and the platform is awesome. It's innovative, fresh and cool.. But I agree with you. There's a bunch of things that needs to be fixed and I'm certain that these great minds are working endless of hours in attempts to do it.
Yes! Until people can start following users and see their content in one feed, we are all missing out. I know I miss a lot jumping from one user to another and forgetting the name of one I like. Curation is pretty worthless for upvoting on content but not comments. And we need more support and spam filters. I feel people with a certain level of steem power should be limited in the amount of posts they can make per day. It is clogging up the new feed and I can't imagine finding content when the user base grows to 1 million. Limiting new user posts would prevent the prevalence of meme and copy paste posts. I want steemit to be about unique content I can't find other places. If I can copy and paste the exact same thing someone else does, it probably isn't that valuable. Some changes need to be made but I am optimistic
As i wrote on this article, whales don't have time to review everything, so your posts may not be looked at by them even if they are good : https://steemit.com/steemit/@najoh/we-should-be-posting-more-qualitative-content-on-steemit
I posted what i believe to be a nice article, but i got no love too, that's fine, we can't hit it big all the time : https://steemit.com/life/@najoh/what-i-ve-discovered-about-love-in-this-book-is-fascinating-and-changed-my-vision-of-love
I like this idea! It can be really hard to know when to post something, But I feel like people who post regular good content will get noticed eventually.
Here is my Pokemon Card collection that I wanted to share.
Lol
https://steemit.com/life/@kaylinart/my-entire-pokemon-card-collection-steemit-original-lots-of-photos
That's a lot of pokemons!! :D
I thought more steemit and would like a chance to talk about their tattoos and the meanings behind them. Nobody but bots and crickets. I thought it was a little more valuable than that https://steemit.com/tattoo/@bendjmiller222/inked-for-a-reason-the-significance-of-my-tattoos
And the most heartfelt piece I have ever written got less than 6 dollars. I spent more than 6 hours piecing it together trying to make the content enjoyable. Idk where I went wrong https://steemit.com/steemit/@bendjmiller222/how-my-best-friend-saved-me-from-suicide
Only post I've had semi-success on was my intro post, and then those funds got stolen and I got locked out and watched my funds get sent away. How fun...
Still I keep trying, but my posts don't break thru. And I'll keep trying, because I love it, and I wanna get back what I lost and power up some more... This place is amazing and I just wanna be a part of it :)
This is a good one. I just made a small success with my post https://steemit.com/steemit/@cjclaro/just-in-steemit-android-app-beta and was hoping to continue the "winning streak".
But not the case.
I also made a parody of "Dumb Ways to Die" https://steemit.com/steemit/@cjclaro/steemin-away-a-parody-of-dumb-ways-to-die hoping it will go viral. Still crossing my fingers.
Wow this is really cool, great job and keep on Steeming my friend :)
Thank you, I appreciate it. The end goal with this is to enlighten people and to help us all. Well, that's what I'm hoping for at least. :)
I thought this one would do better. Not great but more interest. I realize I should have put it in 'health' and not 'acupuncture' but at the last minute, like an idiot, I changed the #1 trending word. Tell me what you think.
https://steemit.com/acupuncture/@transcendfinance/the-first-steemit-professional-acupuncturist-ama-regarding-traditional-chinese-medicine
I did think my #minnowcodeofconduct post would find more minnows. Not dollars, totally expected to bomb out there.
The only thing you can do, is to continue to work hard and create quality content. Sooner or later people will notice you. Don't give up! :)
We should have #poststhatnevermadeit
Haha yeah, maybe :D
Ok, here's an original work of fiction I wrote, part one of a book I've been working on. I'd love any feedback! (I also published part two, which did even worse, and I even added images to that one)
https://steemit.com/fiction/@azurejasper/an-original-part-i-the-drive
I think I know why this post of mine didn't get much attention - it is just not a popular point of view and may be seen as negative:

Nice @hitmeasap
Shot you an Upvote :)
