I think the garden project is a good one because you can do updates regularly. One thing that might help is use 'gardening' instead of 'garden' as your first tag on those posts. Waaay bigger audience.

Other than that, I think you're going to get as many answers as people - each with their own set of likes & dislikes. Write what makes you happy. Write stuff you can't or don't want to keep inside. Write about whatever strikes your fancy.
