In ASUS for example, they highlight how this design allows to multiply by two the screen space of traditional laptops "increasing their versatility, expansion and productivity".
In the design of the so-called Project Precog we also have a hinge that allows you to rotate the screens almost 360 degrees to finish with a fully functional tablet, although we can also place the equipment in support mode, tent, book and plane, the latter being curious by example to use it as a board for various video games.
The company has also put a lot of emphasis on the integration of artificial intelligence in the team, although its role is limited: it allows recognizing touch devices to adjust the experience at any time or change the location of the keyboard depending on the place where the user place your fingers.
The team will have Windows Cortana and Alexa as voice assistants when it comes to market, supports the stylus to take notes on any of the two screens and also supports the VPU (Vision Processor Unit) developed by Intel and Movidius and can convert to this team in an interesting product to work in the field of artificial vision or neural networks.
The ASUS Project Precog will not be the only one that makes use of this type of concept, since Lenovo has announced during the Computex fair that it will also come to the market with a new edition of its Yoga Book that will also make use of two screens.
There is currently little data for a second generation Yoga Book that was presented during the Intel keynote, but as in the first model its reduced thickness and weight was highlighted, as well as an "enhanced writing experience" with the stylus and a keyboard "enabled via artificial intelligence".
The company significantly changes the format of the innovative Yoga Book, which had a 10-inch screen and a touch surface with that unique 'halo keyboard' that featured a touch keyboard with a haptic response on that surface, also designed to take notes or to draw.
We said goodbye to the physical keyboard on mobile phones, but can we do it on laptops?
Neither of these two teams are considering their arrival this year. In ASUS confirmed that they will not arrive until 2019, while Lenovo did not give dates but was not even able to show a prototype, something that did its competitor.
We probably know more at the IFA fair that is held at the beginning of September this year, and maybe that's when we get to know the internal specifications of two products that also do not make it very clear what kind of hardware features will be offered.
Here the main question is not that, but if sacrificing the physical keyboard and the touchpad can compensate. The Yoga Book did not do it at all, and although the idea of a laptop with two screens is interesting, it may not materialize in a market that finds it hard to accept these original ideas.
It is true that there are very curious scenarios of use. ASUS for example showed how it would be to use its Project Precog with an external keyboard and mouse, something that turns the team into a curious multi-monitor environment. However, this use case is one of the few in which this type of approach offers advantages over a traditional laptop or convertible.
The big question is how these virtual keyboards will behave on the screen, but the expectations are not too rosy. The iPad did not become a really productive team until the arrival of the iPad Pro and the official support of a keyboard with which the team won many integers.
It is true that it is perfectly possible to work with virtual keyboards on the screen. What happens is that sacrificing a physical keyboard and a touchpad to have that option of having two screens always available is not entirely convincing without applications that really take advantage of this type of option. We'll see if Lenovo, ASUS and the developers convince us otherwise.
