EOS Canon 70D DSLR
The best camera in it's class

Hunter's comment
I have been using the Canon 70D since November 2017 and although this model has been superseded by the Canon 80D. Many vloggers and photographers still prefer the 70D. It is readily available and now much more affordable than it used to be.
The build quality is second to none. It is built like a tank from metal and strong quality plastics.
The design is very ergonomic and feels great in use. The buttons and dials are all easily accessible without taking your eye off of the subject in frame. It weights 755g without the lens and feels very sturdy.
The camera body is often sold separately as people can then choose the lenses that they want. I use Sigma 10-20 mm and a Sigma 30 mm. Both are very versatile wide-angle lenses and do exactly what I need for vlogging, landscape and portrait photography.
My first shoot was at #steemfest2 in Lisbon Portugal. The camera arrived the day before I left for Portugal so I had no time to get familiar with its many functions. The camera performed flawlessly and even though I had had little experience with it at the time, it still gave me great photographs.
The auto-focus mode and full auto camera settings allow even the novice photographer get fantastic results.
I had it set on full auto for the first couple of months that I had it and it was easy to use straight out of the box.
As time went by and I wanted to get more control over the multitude of functions that the 70D offers. I began experimenting with various settings. With some surprising results. Not always good.
I would often overexpose and make loads of similar mistakes but that is how you learn what works and what doesn’t.
You can review the image that you have just taken on the flip out touch sensitive scene and reset and re-shoot immediately if you need to.
The flip out screen is very handy for making vlogs as it rotates so that you can see what you are filming.
If I had to take a photo and wasn’t sure of the best settings I just put it into full automatic mode and it takes great photos.
Composition is a whole different subject. As are the many settings available and beyond the scope of this post.
Technical specifications and terminology.
Canon’s 70D is part of the EOS (Electro-Optical System) range and is a digital single lens reflex (DSLR) camera. It sits in the middle of the EOS range. It it is on the border between an enthusiast and a professional photographer’s camera.
The results are spectacular in either photo or video mode and to be totally honest. This is more than enough camera for just about anybody.
If you develop or already have the skills, you can do just about anything with this camera including making full length movies.
It has a 20.20 megapixel sensor which captures in a huge variety of modes and formats including JPG, HDR (high dynamic range) and of course full HD (high definition) video when in movie mode at 1920 x 1080 down to 640 x 480 with a range of speeds from 25 frames per minute to 60 frames per minute and a whole lot more in between.
Sample video
You can play around with various cinematic effects, depth of field, frame rates, audio levels and shutter speeds to get those film like looks.
The camera has inspired me when looking for subjects to photograph and film and gives you confidence that you will get a good result even though I am still learning the capabilities of this camera. It is great fun while learning.
I have had many cameras over the years and this is without doubt the best camera I have ever owned. If it got damaged or lost would I buy another one immediately.
I hope you enjoyed this review of the EOS Canon 70D.

The edit button just appeared. Thanks for that. :)
Pros:
Cons:
Thanks @teamhumble for your encouraging comments. I have a Canon 50 mm lens but always use these two Sigma lenses. Great glass and amazing depth of field on the 30 mm.
The Canon 70D is a whole lot of camera for a third of the original price. It's a steal right now and still best in class.
can't beat a nifty fifty! :)
My son is using the 50 mm at the moment. I do a lot of vlogging so the two Sigma's are perfect for close pieces to camera as seen in the clip. The 50 mm is a great lens but it had to be about 8 feet away to get it in focus :)
Pros:
There is a new version, so the price of this one went down
Ergonomic
Durable materials
Preferred by photographers even their is a new version
Cons:
Do not see any for now.
Thanks for reading and leaving your affirmative comments.
It's a great piece of kit.
Pros:
best camera on this price range
has quick and smooth focus because of the Dual Pixel CMOS AF system
perfect for photographers and vloggers
user friendly
Cons:
can't really see anything bad about this camera.
Just have at least 2 extra battery if you want to go out there and shoot something
I have two batteries :) and to be honest I rarely have to use both. I can get a 30 video vlog easily with one battery plus 1000 photos (jpeg small)
Having said that. More batteries = Good idea.
Thanks for your positive comments.
Pros:
amzing details and colors
Cons:
price
They are currently a third of the price they used to be. Was $1500 now just $500.
One of the best SH posts I've seen so far! I used the 70d for over a year to create a bunch of videos for my YT channel, shotting with the cannon 10-18 and Sigma 30mm 1.4! It really was a fantastic camera for the price tag. Thoughts on +/-
pros:
Canon Colours (still unmatched imo)
decent lenses available
solid autofocus
flip screen
cons:
no 60p at 1080
DLSR are bulky compared with the newer range or mirrorless
Thanks Sam, for your warm comments. There are some good lightweight alternatives but for me personally. The strong build quality of this model gives me the confidence to throw it around and treat it a bit rougher on the road as you know. It can take it. :)
Pros: Canon lens are one if my favorites quality is thier moto.
Cons: pricey other than that none.
Currently they're a third of the price they used to be. $1500 now just $500. That is a bargain for such a feature rich quality camera.
A nice looking machine. Molometer. The video looks sharp and I may have to get me one of those shirts:)
Thanks Pryde, the t-shirts were part of a gift bag for attending #steemfest2 :)

Real beauty, good luck taking pictures.
Thanks Mike, it's a joy to work with. I'm a big fan of this model. Does it show :)
Little bit. :-)
Haha thought so.
A good review with a lot of insights. Thanks molometer, we need more from this kind of reviews!
Thanks Jay, glad you enjoyed it and gained something from it.
If I could upgrade, as I’ve been wanting to do, this blog definitely puts this camera on my short list. Unfortunately, with the expense of my recent life-threatening illness, a new camera is fast receding from my hopes.
Sorry that you are having a challenging time with your health. We are very fortunate in the UK to have a medical system that supports everyone for free (taxes) regardless of their wealth.
This camera is not going away any time soon so don't worry about it.
In the meantime, my Olympus E600 is a pretty good camera.
I wish we could get our healthcare system worked out here. It would do so much for the middle class and poor working Americans. Instead, we got a trillion dollar tax cut for the über rich. [sigh]
Good post friend @molometer (70 D CANON).
What did you like about it? :)
about the settings settings are okay and the results of the images we get from the camera CANON 70 D is very satisfactory. that's what I like.
