Solmove offers a plug-in system of stable base plates with solar cells under a glass surface. The individual modules are produced in 1.2 x 1.2 m for streets and 0.6 x 0.6 m for walkways (Solwalk). They are very robust, non-slip, self-cleaning and therefore a long-lasting investment. They are easy to connect thanks to the plug-in system. In the evening hours the Solwalk can be illuminated and in winter it is even heatable. Connections can be made to the mains or directly to the consumer. For further information please visit the website of the provider.

The technology is not there yet but, eventually, we will see all of our roads and paths turned into energy centers. And why not? They just sit there all day long in the sun.

A product like this could really help create that reality. Lining the streets with solar capailities means that we can actually power things around it while reducing the footprint.

Excellent hunt.

Now this is a very futuristic thinking. In developing countries, we even have to think about budget allocation for a asphalt or concrete road. But if investment made in such product can generate power that can be supplied elsewhere (than just using it in illumination or heating of roads or walkways), it could be feasible when solar cell prices get affordable.

But this is a very innovative approach, I must say. Hope it has a quite a long shelf life to recover the initial investment ...and some more.

In Cologne (Germany), the first solar path has now been built as a test. Unfortunately the article is in german. http://www.spiegel.de/wirtschaft/unternehmen/erftstadt-bei-koeln-deutschlands-erster-solar-radweg-oeffnet-a-1237681.html

There is also a stretch road in Utrchet (Netherlands) by Wattway.

It's really a technology of the future with the development of electric cars. Great hunt @depot69

This types of products are usually covered by Govt who can only place the plates on the roads if the economy of the country can afford it. Otherwise, it is not of use.

At first, I thought what in the world would a solar carpet for roads would be used for? But my curiousity was answered when I checked out the link. Not a totally bad silar-based innovation

Wao! # Awesome hunt.
The technology of today's world is advancing the ways to green energy day by day and one day it will be possible to overcome all power shortage in the world.
However, this solar powered carpet would increase the beauty of the road and will make roads more glittery.
Best of luck for your hunt!

I've heard of this "type" of tech before and it has always interested me. One of the things I like the most is how a full dose of this can ultimately effect the weather. I'm from a place in florida that was entirely green farm land until they made a suburb out of it. The amount of concrete that replaced the greenery actually changed the weather due to the heat distribution. I can't express how valuable something like this can be to cover pavement.

I believe this product is probably more viable where new cities, or infrastructure is being built, rather than for replacing existing roads & walkways. For established cities, I just can't see the re-surfacing costs vs the power benefits being attractive enough, yet.

At some point, solar tech (and power storage) will be so compelling, cheap to install, reliable and replaceable that we'll see an iteration of this, or similar tech surfaces in most cities.

But I think that once the tech is compelling enough, we won't need to re-surface entire roadways - the capture/conversion will take place on smaller surfaces. So, maybe we'll have solar slabs, or tracks running along roadways, pavements, or even built into the lines painted on our roads (lane dividers).

But this is definitely interesting and exciting tech - great hunting :)

Technology make our life more easy and this is the best example with solar technology. Solar technology is great natural resource for us and this carpet is big example of it because of its surface its provide heat in winter Other main feature slef cleaning non silp surface and have plug in system. Nice hunt

I'm just thinking what happens if it becomes available in my part of world because politicians here have oversimplified the development projects in their minds by limiting all that to a single task that is building new roads that new get completed until the tenure is over or if by chance they complete one or two, the material used is bad so soon there is need for building a new road or bridge. I understand that this one is for a smaller space like parking area etc but I'm just seeing the future version of this one that could revolutionize the way we build our main roads. Great hunt @depot69.

Thanks for sharing my idea from 15 years ago.

Now it'd be great if the generated electricity can then again be consumed and used by electric vehicles by induction!
It'd be like a never-ending loop of electricity generation and consumption!

Wow, can you imagine if all the roads and/or sidewalks in the world were covered with this... we would have endless solar energy! Amazing.. I hope that this idea becomes popular, it could save the world. Great hunt!

Great hunt! Definitely with the help of this type of technological products the future will be more brightened and the source of energy will be more and more so there will be no energy shortage. Thanks for sharing awesome hunt

@depot69 this is a cool hunt. Who would have imagined what technology can do these days that even for roads, cycle paths and cark parks, you can put solar carpet there to generate power. How awesome this is. Great hunt.

Wow this is something really amazing. Imagine having a carpet can generate electricity. The only thing now is the cost and durability.

Solar Carpet will be very useful in emergency situations and for adventurers. It will provide enough energy and electricity to your mobiles. Solar Carpets will be life saver for you and are the future of renewable energy. It will be act as a microcosm and store energy from the sun in batteries so we can be use this energy later according to our needs.

Harvesting power from everywhere and anyhow is getting is to some high technology.
This paved road which get power from the sun is something that we have an extra use for something so common.

Energy generation does not come more cleaner or cooler.Converting the kinectic energy of pedestrians, bikes and cars to power a city is an investment that will pay off for any forward thinking country.Great hunt @depot69

Hi @depot69, very unique thing you have informed us here. This is a nice concept I never knew about such thing. It looks environmental friendly and hope it would provided relief to the people.

Great hunt, great product! Roads now, are the most heat packing objects in our civilization, along with buildings. If those could produce power, well then we are close to free power for everybody!

It is great invention. It is looking very nice and also surface is very attractive. It makes the roads and other walking way as energy producing centre. This product also make life easier because in winter season it generate the heat also.@depot69

Really, solar technology is a great natural resource for us, and it makes the life of the people very easy to live under the supervision, in fact, such techniques really help transform roads, car parks and pathways into energy centers. Can. Seeing this I feel very amazing! Solar carpet will be a very resourceful resource for people in the future. By which people will be happy to walk on the supervised roads or on the paths.
Definitely this is very interesting and unique hunting. @depot69

This product will be more useful in the future. It will be used in many cases so get energy efficiently. Awesome hunt!
