Sonar (English abbreviation: voice and range navigation), is an American term first used during World War, which means distance and voice navigation, is a technique that uses sound propagation in water to navigate or detect other water vehicles. Meanwhile, Britain has another name for sonar, namely ASDIC (Anti-Submarine Detection Investigation Committee). Sonar is an underwater sensing system using sound waves (acoustic). At the beginning of its development the sonar system was more widely used in the military field, especially at the beginning of World War II where underwater war began to become the main tactic of naval combat to destroy the strength of the opponent. In its development, underwater sensing technology is strongly influenced by other technological advances, especially sensor technology, electronics and microprocessors. With the advancement of signal processing techniques, applications in the non-military field began to be developed for various applications such as sea.
