For the benefit of those who do not know in words what disability actually means, just like any special educator will do, disability can be defined as the limitation in the ability of an individual to perform a specific task of a particular age range as a result of impairment; or loss of function, lack of ability, functional limitation or activity restriction. With that brief enlightenment on the concept disability, a myriad person should be able to decipher that disability is an umbrella term with plethora branches.

Unlike how disoriented people think, disability is neither a disease nor an illness but rather a condition which under great clout of various interventions can be subdued to a certain extent. Albeit, that will be subjected to the severity of the disability, as disabilities are of varying lengths.

The fact that they nurse one problem or the other does not mean they do not belong to this terrestrial world. It only means these particular persons’ conditions require affections from the public and not condemnation that has been noticed of late.

I do not want to sound like a passionist, but the way some humans label fellow humans created by their same creator is passion arousing. Do I blame them after all? Utterly NO! I only blame their impaired consciousness and level of thinking, coupled with reasoning. Thinking persons with disabilities have nothing to offer is a great miscarriage in thoughts. There is always ability in disability.

Furthermore, with this piece, there is little or no regard given to writing bevy collections of persons with disabilities who thrived in life, our world has seen some good dosages of them. But this piece is rather aimed at awakening people’s consciousness about persons with special needs. Yes, there are specialised rehabilitative, educational and even vocational programmes set for these individuals to aid their self-realisation as well as being independence so as the public will realise the métiers and usefulness of these individuals in the society. Their usefulness is not in any way impaired by impairment because the usefulness of a cup is in its emptiness. Their mere physical appearances may suggest them as relatively being of no help, but there is more to a personality than just a physical look.

Having a disability does not mean having an unacceptable ethics in the society, as it is often many a regular person found at the displaying circle of unethical idiosyncrasies and undignifying values. Persons with disabilities are as well valuable to our niche just like regular people. The vocational services some categories of these persons render to the society amongst other meritorious activities they engage in are enough to laud the value behind their existence in this world.
