Introduction
Steemgar, created by @igster, is a STEEM implementation of the famous game but now you can earn STEEM by winning the game or through other players upvotes.
You can have all the details of how this works here.
Latest Development
People have been earning steem for playing a GAME for about 2 weeks now! I don't know if you get it but it's a pretty big deal. Maybe Steem wasn't designed to do "gaming" but I can't think of another blockchain that can do that right now!
Stats & Leaderboard
@crispycoinboys has been compiling stats and leaderboards. He published them under every game (I think) and also publish the "Steemgar Stats for All Time" and the "Steemgar Stats for the Past 7 Days".
Squashing Bugs, More Games and...Open Source?
There is still some bugs that need to be dealt with right now. Once the big one have been squashed, @igster told me that we would start to increase the number of games (every 30 minutes) and potentially bring this open source.
The number of players increases from week to week. It seems to hover around the 20 to 30 players per game. More games mean more rewards and more rewards brings in more players!
He might have to run multiple servers if this game because anymore popular.
ABOUT OPEN SOURCING STEEMGAR...
If @igster ever get this game open source, I will give be backing this open source GitHub through utopian.io with a massive upvote. Ideally, I would like to be him that moderates what is a good entry and what isn't...but for that I would have to talk with him and @utopian-io.
Conclusion
Go play! There is a lot of fun to be had and much rewards ready for the picking!

I have played there several times but still no first place lol
Once I eat what looked like a giant circle and it ended up dividing me into smaller circles, I thought it would make me bigger damn
I just need to learn how to control the game better since all I do is move my mouse around.
Still, its pretty fun to have a game like this, I am sure in the future we could find a way to reward winners in bigger and more complexes games.
"Once I eat what looked like a giant circle and it ended up dividing me into smaller circles"
That's a virus. :) If you are bigger than that, it divides you, if you are smaller, you can go through it safely.
"since all I do is move my mouse around."
Actually, you can half yourself with the space button. That's how you can jump on and eat smaller players, or run from bigger players (because the smaller blobs are faster). But you have to be careful with it because for a few seconds you can't unite the smaller pieces, so even a smaller cell can eat you if he is bigger than those small pieces of yours.
You can experiment with the W button too, it can be helpful in some situations (I don't use it too many times), you divide yourself with that to smaller pieces too, but without the jump.
Another advice is to use F11 at the beginning to play Full Screen. Good luck! :)
I would play more and I think about taking breaks throughout the day to try a game. Unfortunately I seem to constantly miss the hour mark.
The couple of games I have played were challenging and interesting.
I've checked out agar.io and i think it's really a cool game and a nice initiative. BUT i don't support the idea of this game being created on the steem blockchain. Steem on the Steem blockchain was created to be mined by the "proof of brain" system through blogging and writing. I think creating a game on the steem blockchain is really not working along with this plan @crypyoctopus. If more platforms like this are created on the steem blockchain, i believe that the system will change from what it was originally created for. I believe you see a little light in what i am trying yo say @cryptoctopus. Making me understand better and clearing the ideas (which may be wrong) i have in my head will be greatly appreciated.
The Steemit Pundit
What do you think about DLive, DTube, Dmania, Utopian.io etc? They are really far from writing and blogging too and they are created on the Steem Blockchain.
"Steem on the Steem blockchain was created to be mined by the "proof of brain" system through blogging and writing."
Everything can change, evolve. It really depends on what people want, what kind of ideas they have. I'm really happy for DLive for example as well and love to see new projects like steemgar too. I'm sure I'm not alone with this.
See your point as well, @cryptobserver. I totally support all these projects as well. I just believe it's going too far. I hope somebody sees my point
I think that most people genuinely enjoy gaming more than they do reading about the latest shitcoin someone is trying to shill. To each their own I guess.
Blockchains just offer forms of accounting for now, advanced blockchains with even lower than 3 sec block time would be ideal to host game data on for game stats, right now steemgar just seems to connect to the blockchain in the capacity of announcing the winners, and that's fine. Speaking of, it seems to have not posted the winning message a few times... but I guess that's an issue they're trying to fix.
I see where you are going @charitybot and i totally agree with you.
My point though is the idea on the game being on the STEEM BLOCKCHAIN
I totally support crypto gaming and blockchain based games that are on other platforms and are backed by other cryptocurrencies.
What i am trying to say is, STEEM blockchain was not created for this.
Still stand corrected. The Steemit Pundit
Ethereum wasn't created to be an ICO machine and here we are. Bitcoin was created to be a peer to peer digital cash and now it's use for everything under the sun (see colored coin, etc). The internet was never planned to be used by so much porn and cat videos...yet this is where we are.
Well, true actually. Everything changes to fit the new system.
i disagree with your thoughts steemit pundit because you think that brain not used while playing the game, i suggest you consider playing the game first and you will observe that this is totally brain game and the one who has most powerful brain can win the game.
From the Steem Whitepaper
Man, that's a really abstract Abstract.
If we assume that at the end of the day, Steem's value is dependent on the value of the platform, which it must be since more STEEM means more influence, and this influence is worth more if the platform is worth more, then any activity which makes people spend more time on Steemit or other Steem-based platforms will increase Steem's value.
seems an exciting game
Yeah the game is great! Big thanks to @cryptoctopus and @igster
I've never played agar.io before but playing steemgar for like 10 days, 5-6 times daily and I have to say, it's really fun! The game mechanics are really simple, I could say it's an "Easy to learn, hard to master" game, so everybody should give it a try! (you might even earn some Steem for it!) It would be cool as well, if there would be a steemgar game every 30 minutes! Thank you igster for making it and thank you cryptoctopus for supporting it!
Thanks @cryptoctopus for this great information I can't just something wonderful as this has been going on in Steemit and still I didn't know about. Thanks ones more for this great post
It is a great and fun game, but it seems many became very good at it, so they beat me. There are a lot of strategies that many use and the ones who are most skilful wins in the end. Nevertheless, it is refreshing thing in Steemit.
Earn while you play, its a nice thing, I didn't love the graphics that much but the concept is awesome, and all of the above in the list we earn while we play. You have talked about this game various times but I haven't played it, maybe one day soon I will.
I think if tge concept is nice graphics can always improve over time. So why dont you come on board lets play and earn. I will be there tonight!
I've found that all the best multiplayer games have very little emphasis on graphics, they're pretty much barebones and are just enough to convey some important information and not much else.
Very nice event. Congratulations. Punctual and systematic. This is a beautiful achievement. But sometimes I noticed there were no votes. Is there a reason for this?
SteemAuto acting up unfortunately.
The game is gripping and exciting. Thank you for everything.
I want to play this game. But I do not understand anything
If I lose the game playing this game, then any money can be cut???
no if you loss the game then no money cut but if you able to be in the top 3 at the end of the game then you will get some steem and sbd. so play and enjoy.
thanks i will try
quite informative will definitely give it a try, joined discord channel and good work @igster
thanks for steemgar development update.....
This is a great initiative. But I'm not too good at this game. Hopefully there'll be more games in the future that'll be more up my alley..
I have played this game before ..but really didnt get in ..may be i can join in this time and beat @cryptoctopus ....
What a funny game!! Thank you and developer. I have been playing since two days and I think I am addicted now :) However, I can not win any game. I am working on it one day I will be in the first place
please bring this game for sure its the ultimate one :D
I tried this game but I lose badly :p
There are people too good at this game.
wow very excellent post steem
This is very interesting
great i have play this game i loving it! thank you for it!that great start to increase the number of games (every 30 minutes) and potentially bring this open source! yaah more you win reward you win in this game! finally the wait i over
It sounds really enticing... I actually never knew about earning steem through games.. Thanks @cryptoctopus for the update.. Am joining steemgar discord link
@cryptoctopus ....very informative post and much needed too... Will surely give a try ..,😜
Thanks for the update @cryptoctopus.
I ve tried it a few times and is general performance was good.Apart from a couple of times that was pretty laggy tbh. Some players have already mastering the game.It is every nice try from every aspect.Something different
Okay. I'll check the game out in my leisure time. Any plan to roll out the game App anytime soon ?
For the past 2 weeks, I have heard my male colleagues in school talk about SteemAgar in the cafeteria. I kept wondering what it was about as they kept talking about it with so much passion. I now see the source of their passion. This is great, I mean this is huge. You mean you can earn STEEM just by playing your favourite game? God bless @igster for developing this and God bless you @cryptoctopus for fuelling it up like a 21st century rocket.
Wow, just coming across this. A game that will earn me steem? I am definitely reading more on this and getting on board the gaming ship.
Only problem i might face could be my horrible data network here but that will not stop me from giving it a try. Thanks for sharing this awesome information.
Yes, one thing I noticed is that unfortunately a system like this is very much "the slightly rich get slightly richer", because those who already have good gaming equipment and internet connections have a huge advantage, not to diminish the amount of skill it takes to win.
This is true but then, like steemit itself, one has to be persistent and patient. With new people going into gaming every day you are always one step ahead of a couple of people.
I really like the effort and the results you my friend
This seems an exciting game to watch out for.. its great for this platform to do contest and games because this brings engagement to the community. Great work
This is a positive effect of the law of unintended consequences.
It is one of the great things about technology. The developers/inventors have one idea and, yet, the technology ends up going in a different direction.
I think this blockchain is ideal for gaming. We have the speed to do a ton of transactions so if something because popular, we could see it handle the traffic. Plus, there are no transaction fees on payouts. That is huge. Who wants to win $10 only to lose 5% to a transaction fee? It might not be much but it all does add up. This also allows for a participation fee to be given, lets say .005 SP or whatever.
Get paid to play.
If you didnt see this, we now have another game, steemopoly on here.

I've always believed that the possibilities linked to Steem/Steemit were endless. But I never in fact imagined I would be playing video games that rewarded me in Steem. That was until I came across Steemgar last week. This is a rendition of the popular online video game Agar.io. But otherwise of winning bragging rights... you win Steem! How Cool!? Today I test out Steemgar which was developed (and maintained) by @igster and @steemplayroom to see what every one the fuss is very more or less
It is beautiful to see that through Steemgar, people do not just only get to play games on the steem blockchain but they get rewarded for it as well. Wonderful innovation
😃 That is great! It so cool to see how Steemit turns so many ideas and concepts into gold. I am sure Steemit will be booming worldwide much quicker than most expect it to. Finding Steemit itself can be very well considered a lucky shot, for most people are so immersed in everyday worries that the idea of earning money the way Steemit exemplifies it probably is never an option in their minds. Thank you for sharing this!
This is another opportunity to maximise our steem. Game lovers, raise your hands. Thanks @igster and @cryptoctopus for the review.
Everyday, I keep tab of my timeline looking out for these updates. SteemAgar has been on for two weeks yet it has been changing lives of young people already. More projects like this should be created which directly impacts on the lives of young people. Not everyone was born to write. Some other people like me were born to acheve exploits in other areas such as gaming. SteemAgar is a life changer because it has enabled me to derive value from my gaming time.
Let's keep this flag flying
Excellent post and you know what i am big fan to steemgar and it's real fun playing that game but i see when no. of player increasing then we see game lagging and this issue need to be addressed soon, other than that we won't have zooming option and once the ballon get bigger then it cover's the whole screen and we barely see what's going on around us and it's fair chance that we might hit virus unintentionally, so i suggest to add zoom in and out option like original agar.io has, i hope that game will gain more popularity soon because it make player mind more creative, thanks for supporting such projects friend, Stay blessed
Wow these are nice implementations. Increasing the number of games is sure to attract more gamers, likewise making it open source. Nice one from @igster.
I'm not any good at playing games against or with other people.
even if i play i will lose !
should i still try,may be rewards can make the difference
Thanks for the your support for this game! It is so funny. I could 't win any game yet but I will do it! Finally, please reduce the cooldown of the game. It is hard to wait one hour fot the next match :)
Kazanmaya çok ihtiyacım var
@cryptoctopus,
I am personally believing after the SMT implementation @ned and STEEM dev team will consider about a layer architecture to build games top of the blockchain! But as an initiation this seems to be a great gaming!
I am little bit tight with my job related works, hope I could allocate a free time for this game! Thanks for sharing this interesting review!
Cheers ~
Playing game earning steem its not a bad idea. I was so addicted to game but after joining steemit i am being so addicted to steemit. If i can earn steem again I will play this game.
Thank you for your support to this game. Yes, it may be buggy at times especially when many people are playing, but this shows a lot of promise for more video games that will run on the Steem blockchain.
I think I'm in the leaderboards of the most number of games played for the week. And maybe the worst winning rate in that list. I won the first place only once but I think SteemAuto was acting weirdly at that time. I'll try to get to the leaderboards again, even just for the most number of games played hehe. I'll be looking forward to more of @steemplayroom! Thanks
:-) Yes ! Go to play !!!
I'm loving the game at the moment, and can't wait to see what it develops into.
My suggestion to the developers, is that they should become part of the @steemgc community, which is growing rapidly.
Thanks for an update of Steemgar. However:
Recently there was a post from other source where #XP Coin club was mentioned. As far as I know, this is the first digital currency enabling one to earn through playing video games and participating in related activities. XP Coin is cryptocurrency based on Proof Of Stake rather than on the Proof of Work. Im certain you already know that.
I heard there is even a monopoly game now on this paltform. Everyday steemit is getting better and better and helping those people earn Steem that t
Really don’t from posting and I’m beyond thankful for that . And in the end , it’s all about having fun
I tried playing the game a couple of times now but I'm always coming too early or too late ... I really can't wait to play the game .... thanks for publicizing it
Kind of fun game to take me away from work every hour, even tho I suck at it. Finally managed 2nd place the other day. :)
I'm all for this, and especially starting games more often. Steem expanding into rewarding various kinds of intelligence and a broader range of aptitudes can only be good for the platform, and for the users.
Now, to remember this when I'm not at work ;).
The reviews for steemgar have been positive. That's a leverage to build upon.
But only a few folks know about steemgar yet. That speaks to the opportunities available.
