This is how I feel about AE. It's so deep, but the interface and non-real time manner of it makes usage frustrating and daunting.
I just used standard key framing in the motion panel, adjusting scale and position to match the scaling applied by the digital zoom. Nothing fancy.
I think what lots of people don't understand is AE is for motion graphics. It really isn't essential for all video editors or videographers to know the ins and outs of it, or even use it at all. It's such a complex bit of software...
