Communities are crash proof

in #steemfest6 years ago (edited)
It's true that I don't have a frame of reference per say, that this is my first Steemfest, my first crypto conference if I'm to be honest, but I don't think I speak out of turn. What I saw, what I felt was real... the people were real and the atmosphere was one of hope and excitement.

I guess I could sit here and list all the upcoming projects that seemed promising to me, the new version of Utopian for example, the rocking announcement from Steempress, and for all that amazing building that has been going on behind the scenes for all these months, all of it fails to compare to the sheer power of the community.

You see, tech can be something pretty amazing. The technology we are participating of is nothing short of revolutionary, but what I'm trying to say is that none of it would mean a single thing, if it wasn't for the people who are here in the trenches with all of us.

I mean, why would it matter to have 3 second transactions, 2 seconds, or anything positive we could list about this blockchain, if we had no one excited to be part of it, if we had no one who truly cared and felt passionate about it's future? That's the point I'm trying to make here. The most amazing technology in the world could exist in a blockchain, but if there was no people to form it's social webbing, it would be like hearing about the beauty of cosmic events thousands of light years away.

I know that not everyone feels this way, and I'm not going to shame anyone who is feeling fear at this moment because I do understand. The market has kept on sliding to lower valuations and our rational mind is triggering negative ideas. I even read yesterday prophecies that call for the end very soon, prophets of doom who somehow know the end is nigh. But you know what? It doesn't anger me, I understand why they feel the way they do, they were not there, they did not see what I saw.

This is not the first time I say it, but it's always worth repeating: Communities are crash proof, simply because the ROI, the return on investment, is not only measured in satoshis or dollars, but also on happiness and purpose.

So, to those who have woken up today thinking that this is it, that you are seeing this whole revolution of ours swim it's last lap, I'll just say this much....

If you'd had only been there with us, nothing would be robbing you of your smiles...

Hi @meno, very nicely put and a good reminder to keep perspective after the price drop of yesterday.
It was great to meet you at SteemFest.

awesome meeting you too bud! :)

Community man... Steemfest3 was definitely all about community. It was a truly beautiful sight. All the community-minded and -loving people mixing with all the truly community-loving community leaders, it was basically a gigantic community intellectual orgy.

And you @meno are top class. Lots of love and respect for community leaders like you, and so glad to have met you!!

Thank you for the kind words @redrica , i love this incriminating photo of mine you've chosen to share...

<3

haha :D

I actually only saw you pouring into the glasses of others.
I accept sbd/steem for covering tracks

Great to meet you along with many of our community, awesome week!

To be fair, that's exactly what it looks like in the picture. His glass is empty, he could have been right in the middle of pouring a glass for someone else.

I also accept sbd/steem for covering people's asses :)

Touche!

Saving the other shots are we? :D

I'm still busy photoshopping them, to incriminate more people innit ;)

My thought is what I saw in the livestreams and what I am reading from those there would support this as we build it to its potential. I also think that if this worked when it crashed to $0.07, then why wouldn’t it now? I add when and what I can but I enjoy the journey as I still get the value from whatbis here and what is still being built.

Nicely put, @meno! Viva Proof of Community - the one unique selling proposition no other blockchain project can compete against.

It was awesome to finally meet you in person and even talk to you in my favorite foreign language - Spanish. I already knew you were an amazing human being but I’m happy i could verify that once more looking you into the eyes :-)

Big hugs and let’s keep up our most valuable asset - this community.

fue un placer conocerte Marly... eres mas encantadora en persona de lo que pude haber imaginado... un abrazo

Aaaaw, qué amable!! De verdad fue un placer. Un fuerte abrazo de vuelta :-)

proof of community - is this term already on wikipedia? :D

It should be!! Hehe :-)
It was nice to meet you in person, Felix. The next time we should meet earlier during the conference in order to have a bit more room for a chat :-)

...the return on investment, is not only measured in satoshis or dollars, but also on happiness and purpose.

Beautiful. Just beautiful. And so true :-) Wish I had more time... wish I could have been there...

Thanks for sharing @meno 😍

great picture!!!!

Yay, I was there with you in that picture, for real, and it feels warm in my heart. Hugs

Indeed, a thing I said a couple of times at SF is that, against all the shit that might be going on here, behind the scenes or not, we, the 350ish Steemians that attended the event (and a few other great ones that couldn't make it), are actually the real Steemians, the community, and the true value of this blockchain.

Glad to have met you, even if we only chatted a bit at the closing drinks, I think. No idea if I ever got to introduce myself but, I am the dude from the last picture, in the right.

Of course I know who you are... I still can't get over how young you are! hahahah

Pleasure meeting you bud

I get that all the time, to be honest, it's always fun to witness the reactions. :)

Did everyone forget about buying the dip? This is the mother of all dips.

right before the pump... ;)

A lot of people are not happy with the crash pricess and with the revenue, but if you are intelligence it is time to get a lot of SP for prepared when time good coming soon.
hapoy day.

perfect written stuff again my friend ;)

communities might be crash proof, but the people in them are not. we are crashed and burning. and not for the reasons you think.

some people are doing really well on steemit. they still make a huge shitload on their sometimes mediocre posts, while other people who write amazing things make a dollar or two. the steem system has yet to resolve this issue.

I dont think it will happen if we keep going down the trending path where quantity is better than quality.

Lately what I hear from this community is that steem prospers from things that keep people buying and engaging. And sure, some of that stuff could be decent. but if people want to buy off color jokes and tired memes, then that will be our product.

but should we be letting the market dictate? if the market wants McDonalds and Walmart, is that just ok with everyone??

my issue with this is I believe that eventually talented creators will be pushed out by the people that make trolling seem cool. and im just not cool with that.

I believe that we really need to think about direction and purpose, and what kind of message we want potential creators and investors to hear.

Wow guys! Awesome you all! Thanks for sharing. Well her says .... things will be fine

Excelente reflexión querido amigo @meno, es tiempo de sembrar, pronto vendrá el tiempo de la cosecha.
Saludos desde Venezuela.

Again...
THANK YOU!

I am just imagining how the experience will be to attend steemfest because I have not attend it before but due to what I have heard and even learn from the people who went to the steemfest, I would certainly hope to go next time. I guess it must really be fun
