I learnt to code Mozart Oz (I don't recommend that language to anyone) in Notepad. I do not recommend Notepad for coding at all. Not that it doesn't work, but if you use Notepad, you will forever associate the language you learn with that sad white background and colorless code which never compiles because you've made a tiny mistake which is not highlighted.

But I get your point;) Tools aren't important.

Oh, and play around and have fun. Try new things, and if it doesn't work, Google it. And if it works, but you don't understand why it works, play around some more until you get it.
