I'm shocked nobody pointed you to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steem, where you can find almost any information you need. That's the problem with this community; everyone wants you to go off-chain to do stuff. We should be encouraging people to stay on-chain instead.
I run a simple game on a daily basis where people can earn Steem easily just by participating, so its one way for new people to get ahead a few cents at a time without having to invest a lot of time or effort. Not only that, we are a small but dedicated group that have a great sense of community spirit.
In case you haven't discovered this yet: you can click a person's name and in the box that opens, click the name again to see their blog.
Welcome to Steem and I hope you are not discouraged by its complexity. It should get better eventually.
