In Genesis 14:1-24, this was about how Abram (later Abraham) and his 138 men rescued Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah, Zeboyin and Bela from the hands of the kings of Elam, Goyin, Shinar and Ellasar. Abram and his men chased and rescued all their captives from them including Lot (his nephew) and his possessions (because he was living in Gomorrah), and including other things which were taken from them.
Now, while Abram was returning from the battle, he met a man called Melchizedek king of Salem and He was priest of God Most High.
According to genesis 14:19-20 he blessed Abram, saying, “Blessed be Abram by God Most High, Creator of heaven and earth.20 And praise be to God Most High, who delivered your enemies into your hand.” Then Abram gave him a tenth of everything.
Genesis 14:18-20 | NIV
This same man, according to Hebrews 7:1-3 “For this Melchizedek king of Salem, priest of God Most High, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings and blessed him, to whom also Abraham divided a tenth part of all (being first, by interpretation, King of righteousness, and then also King of Salem, which is, King of peace; without father, without mother, without genealogy, having neither beginning of days nor end of life, but made like unto the Son of God), abideth a priest continually.”
Hebrews 7:1-3 ASV.
Now, imagine how great this man will be. He doesn’t have mother, father and genealogy, but he still receives tithes from Abraham, he’s not a Levite but he still receives tithe all the same. And he also blessed Abram, according to the Bible, the greater blessing the least.
According to Hebrews 7:3
“without father, without mother, without genealogy, having neither beginning of days nor end of life, but made like unto the Son of God abideth a priest continually.”
Hebrews 7:3 ASV

And the part I love most:
but made like unto the Son of God
this part is trying to tell us that God deliberately gave us Melchizedek who is something like a prototype, antitype, a type of Christ but not Christ, it’s like a work in progress from God.
With all these attributes of Melchizedek, he’s just like a work in progress to the main work (Jesus Christ).
Jesus Christ, how great thou hath.
