As Christians, our first priority is to seek God and gain salvation. However, when this bold step is taken, it comes with responsibilities .
These responsibilities are to ourselves, our families and the body of Christ.
The major respibility of a Christian to himself/herself is to live a holy life. We can live a holy life by putting away traits such as malice, lying, covetousness, fornication and every other trait listed in Ephesians5:1-7.
We can demonstrate a holy life by the way we dress. We can also portray a holy life in our business or profession.
In Exodus 16:11 ,the
Bible encourages workers to be obedient to our employers,
“bondservants ,be obedient to those who are your masters according to the flesh with trembling and sincerity of heart as to Christ ”
The responsibility of employers to their employees is stated in Colosians 4:1
“Masters give your bondservants what is just and fair, knowing that you also have a master in heaven ”
As Christians, our responsibilities to our families are also stated in the scriptures.
Ephesians 5: 25 states the responsibility of husbands to their wives;
“husbands love your wives just as Christ also loved the church and died for her”.
In Ephesians 5:22,the responsibility of the wife to her husband is stated
“wives submit to your own husbands as to the lord ”
In Ephesians 6:1-3,the responsibility of the children to their parents are stated;
“Children, obey your parents in the lord for this is right,
Honour thy father and mother which is the first commandment with promise,
that it may be well with you and you may live long on earth ”
In Ephesians 6:4,the responsibility of parents to their children is stated;
“and you fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of the lord”
Also, our responsibilities to the body of Christ are clearly stated in the scriptures.
These responsibilities include; praying for the body of Christ as seen in Colossians 6:2
“continue earnestly in prayer, being vigilant in it with thanksgiving "
Studying the Bible as we see in II Timothy 2:15
“be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who doesn't not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth ”,
Evangelism, as we see in Mark 16:15
"and he said to them, “go into all the world and preach the gospel to very creature ”,
Giving Offerings and Tithes as we see in IICorinthians 9:7
“so let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or out of necessity, for God loves a cheerful giver ”.
It is also our responsibility to assemble and encourage one another to love and do good works in the body of Christ and beyond.
May the lord help all of us to fulfill these responsibilities.
Giving is an act of love and love is the greatest law of all. As Christians giving to the needy should be paramount in our lives
