Your love for each other must transcend each other in which case you must be able to see God in yourselves. If that be the case you must always make God not only your foundation but also your beginning and your end; loving each other as God has loved you. “There is no greater love than one lay down his life for his friend” John 15:12-13.
This is the very reason why it is highly encouraged to marry someone who shares your faith (and doctrine) so that you practically have the same basis for your religiosity and spirituality. St. Paul says “always be joyful; pray constantly; and for all things give thanks; this is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus”.
Prayer, song of praises and thanksgiving are very important for building your home.
You must always create time to pray together amidst your private prayers. Remember that the family that prays together stays together.
This will, in a very long way help you to have common mind and always wanting to please God in all that you do as a family by doing so, you will be pleasing each other and then you have the cause to rejoice.
The first thing you should do when you wake up is to pray together and let it be the last thing before retiring to your bed. While praying, let the Word of God be your guide from WHOM you can learn the WISDOM that leads to salvation through faith in Christ Jesus and better understanding of your purpose in life. By constantly sharing the Word of God together in prayer at lease once a day, you will be able to refute error, guide your Life in God, and teach yourselves and your children to he upright and get yourselves equipped ready for any good words and to make your home so wonderfully rooted in God.
Prayer becomes your key to close the door to your problems and to open to the Grace and Blessings of God.
If your husband/wife is doing something not pleasing to you or has just changed his good ways or attitudes -before you call him/ her to correction, first commit it to the Lord in prayer and after you must have expressed your discomfort with such attitude do not stop praying for a change of heart.
You can lift each other up through prayer. The same goes with your children don’t think that you can correct them all by yourself beating, maltreating and nagging them. Put it to the Lord in prayer. Such occasions must come but the Lord says, “Do not be afraid because I have conquered the world”.
Prayer changes things and so it can change your situation. It can heal your broken family and can change your stubborn children.
Praying together is a form of telling God all about your family and letting Him take absolute control of your marital affairs.
Even when you do not belong to the same ’ faith, do not stop praying for true divine understanding. What if the man is a Muslim and the woman a Christian? Yeah, “the unbelieving husband is sanctihed through his wife” and so your prayers and the prayers of your children cover him yet you can invite him to join in the family prayer and to share the Wisdom of God in His Word with him, saying Amen to your prayers is a sign that he is agreeing with your request and with your spirit.
Even in the case of some Christian families, you find the wife and the children praying together while the man is either sleeping or reading newspaper in his room -this is not only reprehensible it is also not a good attitude to show to one’s children; in fact, you are showing your children that you are not of God yet you drive them to God, to the Church, and to worship God who you do not take serious.
How do you explain your faith to such children? “Pray”, says Jesus Christ “that you do not fall into temptation".
The best way to avoid temptation and to prevent troubles in your home is to always pray in and out of season not waiting till problem or trouble arrives before praying.
