Our Sins

Our sins... They are ours by possession and ours also through our own making and unlike everything else that we may wish to call ‘ ours‘ during our time on earth, if we are still in possession of our sins when we depart this life, when we die, then they will accompany us into eternity. Wealth, worldly goods, houses, status, beauty, talents...all these we leave behind. And even the good works we might have done will be of no use to us if are still in possession of our sins when we die. This last point is incomprehensible to many with a worldly mind-set, believing that good deeds will off-set their offences and leave them set, fair and on a course to heaven. But in fact, it is inconsistent to believe this, because even our own legal system has never worked that way. What I mean is this... it is not so long ago in Britain, that murderers were hung. Now, whatever your view might be regarding capital punishment, consider this question: Would the judge have absolved and

saved someone from the noose because their lawyers said that in the past they had given a lot of money to charity?

No! He would pass sentence based on the offence. The law allows a judge a certain degree of discretion in some instances where someone may have been provoked, but in the end, a judge is still obliged to pass the sentence upon a murderer which the law demands. This must be based upon the offence, not upon charitable or heroic acts which the accused may have previously done. Likewise, if a person stands before God at the time of judgement and is still in possession of his sins, then that person is past saving and is condemned. The word of God, the precepts which the word teaches, does not allow for any other sentence. It will be of no use at that stage appealing to God on the basis of having done good deeds no matter how much the world likes to think that is how it works. Let's not be swept along by the inaccurate logic of an unbelieving world that thinks that charitable acts will balance out wrongdoing and win a place in heaven. “To obey is better than sacrifice”.

To obey is surely better than sacrifice. Let us repent from our sins and be saved. Thanks for the great post murfie.
