HONOR: A Divine Principle!

We must understand that honor is not a feeling, because the Lord Jesus himself teaches us in Mt 15: 8 that honor must come from the heart, and not from the mind. Then, we understand that Honor is a decision and that it must be well established in our heart, because it is from the heart that the sources of life come (Pv 4:23), and because of that principle we understand that Honor must be practiced and proven by us.

Studying on this subject I learned that Honor can be demonstrated through thoughts, words and attitudes, which generates respect through us, but I also discovered that Honor must be materialized or physically recognized. When we read some verses that present the word Honor, it will always be linked or associated with a materialization or recognition with something of value, with something that costs something, with what is precious and of weight, and one of the meanings of the Honor word is just that, "give value".

A very common example is the first piece of the birthday cake: the cake is all made from the same ingredient, but we all remain in expectation to see who will receive the first piece! Now why? Because that first piece is materialization or recognition of the honor shown to that person, and that gesture communicates how precious that person is to her.

When we talk about Honor, we must understand that: something must always come out that costs something for another person, because in everything we give or do, we communicate values. An example of this is: if we pass an instruction or activity with term and procrastinate, even saying that we are going to do, that falls into the category of dishonor, and we pass information that we are not reliable and that we do not give importance to that person! If God said to do this or that and we do not, we are despising God and if we despise him we will be unworthy (1Sm2: 30).

Now, we also believe in a reward for the Honor sown, because the Bible says that: "God does not mock anyone, for everything that man sows, that will also reap" (Galatians 7: 7). A minister once said that Honor is like a fertile soil, because everything we sow in honor generates success. Let's see through the scriptures texts that give us an example of that materialization of honor and its rewards.

Proverbs 3: 9 says, "Honor the LORD with your possessions, and with the first fruits of all your increase." The verse is not showing the honor to God with our only spiritual worship, but with the accomplishment of something here example with our goods and with the first fruits of our entire income! And what is the reward for the Honor sown? The answer is in verse 10, where God promises to fill our barns abundantly and make our winepresses overflow with wine, that is, we will have good results. Proverbs 3: 6 says, "Know the Lord in all your ways, and he will make your paths straight." The word recognize in this verse can be translated by "Honoring", and once the honor is sown, we will have rewards in our life trajectory!
