Spiritual growth is the process of becoming more and more like Jesus Christ. When we put our faith in Jesus, the Holy Spirit begins the process of making us more like Jesus, conforming us to His image. Spiritual growth is perhaps best described in 2 Peter 1: 3-8, where we are told that by the power of God: "As all things pertaining to life and godliness have been given to us by their divine power, through the knowledge of Him who called us for his glory and excellence, through which he has given us precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having fled from the corruption that exists in the world to cause of concupiscence; you too, putting all diligence for this very thing, add to your faith virtue; to virtue, knowledge; to knowledge, self-control; to self-control, patience; to patience, piety; to piety, brotherly affection; and to brotherly affection, love. For if these things are in you, and abound, they will not let you be idle or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. "
Spiritual growth is a lifelong process that occurs as we study and apply the Word of God (2 Timothy 3: 16-17), and we walk in the Spirit (Galatians 5: 16-26). In seeking spiritual growth, we can pray to God, asking for wisdom in the areas He wants us to grow spiritually. We can ask you to help us increase our faith and knowledge of Him. God desires our spiritual growth. God has given us everything we need to experience this spiritual growth. With the help of the Holy Spirit, we will be able to overcome sin more and more, advancing firmly to become more and more like our Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.
