Christmas? Why do we celebrate christmas? This should be the question to be asked as far as its celebration is concerned since it opens us up to new way of seeing this season and celebrate it as we ought to.
Christmas has always been a time of the remembrance of the arrival of the greatest gift God ever gave to mankind - the gift of His son Jesus Christ. This greatest gift was initially rejected by man and even now being rejected by many since man has not humbled himself to figure out the value of this gift.
Man is a fallen creature living in a downward spiral of evil leading to damnation. God out of His love gives us the gift of His son to deliver us from this evil and eternal damnation. The reception or the rejection of this gift comes with its consequence. The reception of this gift offers one eternal life and the rejection of it, eternl damnation.
Christmas is therefore celebrated to remember the giving of this gift which has given us hope and joy in this life trapped in sin and death. It is celebrated to remember the appearance of light in this dark world world. Oh! how this season will be a time of a renewal of our faith, hope, joy and love and a time to give these blessings to those without them in this world if it is to be celebrated in that light.
