Christians perform many rites in memory of the Lord Jesus Christ but Easter stands out to be the most important of all. Many understand Easter as just a festival celebrated to commemorate the death and the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
For those of us who are new creation in Christ Easter means more to us and it is not just like any festival.
It marks the beginning of mankind's freedom from the law of sin and death, it reminds us of how death of Christ brought us so close to God and to the throne of grace.
We were like sheep who have gone astray and without shepeherds. Our lives were in danger and in bondage. No amount of animal sacrifices could wash away our sins nor could it bring us back to God.
Christ took upon Himself everything that was meant for us to suffer, he borne our griefs, our sorrows, was wounded for our transgressions, bruised for our iniquities and the chastisement of our peace was upon him.
Surely he has borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned everyone to his own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all. Isaiah 53:4-6
Easter reminds us how Christ death paved the way for everyone no matter their background, race, tribe, nation and colour to come so close to God. The veil that used to block our access to God in the Temple has been thorn apart, anyone who believes in the name of Jesus Christ can now call on the father without fear and trembling.
There is now therefore now condemnation to them who are in Christ Jesus, those who walk not according to the flesh but the spirit.
There is therefore now no condemnation to them who are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death. For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: Romans 8:1-3
The death and the resurrection of Jesus Christ has given us a great assurance of salvation in the last days when the world shall come to an end. With this assurance, we know that though we may die but we shall be raised back to life again and shall reign with Him in heaven for ever.
This season call for instant joy, for we have deliverd from the bondage of sin. Happy Easter.
