Chapter 1
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
This was in the beginning with God.
All things were made by Him; and without Him nothing of what is done, was done.
In Him was life, and life was the light of men.
And the light in the darkness shines; but the darkness did not understand it.
He was a man sent from God, whose name was John.
He came for a testimony, so that he might give testimony of the light, so that all would believe for him.
He was not the light, but to give testimony of the light.
That was the true light, which enlightens every man that comes into this world.
He was in the world, and the world was made by Him; and the world did not know him.
He came to his own, and his own did not receive him.
But to all who received him, he gave them the right to become children of God, to those who believe in his name:
Who are not begotten of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
And that Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us (and we beheld his glory, glory as of the only begotten of the Father), full of grace and truth.
John testified of Him, and cried out, saying, This is the one I said: He who comes after me is before me: for he is first than I.
For of its fullness we all take, and grace by grace.
For the law by Moses was given: but the grace and truth through Jesus Christ was made.
God never saw anyone: the only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He declared to him.
And this is the testimony of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem, asking him: Who are you?
